Cowboys & Romo Discussed on Sports Reporters
The Dallas Cowboys often receive the lion’s share of media attention, not to be confused with the Detroit Lions share of media attention which is infinitesimal since Barry Sanders‘ retirement. The Cowboys are under the radar this year partly due to their 2010 6-10 record in combination of their historically awful defense. With Rob Ryan and a healthy Tony Romo, it is possible the Cowboys will succeed on the field in 2011. It has been a decidedly quieter off season with few media members tapping the Cowboys as Super Bowl contenders. During today’s broadcast of the Sports Reporters, John Saunders, Mike [...]
Cowboys may have something in Harris
Remind me again: is it Dwayne or Dwight Harris? Ah, the joys of preseason football. It’s a time when unknown players can dominate against second or third team defenses and get us all excited over nothing. At first glance, this appears to be the situation with Cowboys’ rookie receiver, Dwayne Harris. However, if you look at the kid’s track record, you’d realize that making plays like he did Thursday night is kind of his thing. And, it’s quite possible that the ‘Boys found themselves a steal in the former East Carolina Pirate. Players like Harris exemplify the problems with the [...]
Cowboys’ defense is a work in progress
Last night, the Cowboys’ starting defense played one full series. In that series, they struggled to stop the Broncos, giving up several big runs and a big pass play that was the result of a Gerald Sensabaugh brain fart. This morning, some were saying that this is cause for worry. It seems that many of the Cowboys’ problems last night were similar to the ones they faced last year. However, last night’s defensive performance means absolutely nothing, at least in my mind. It’s important to remember that this squad has had less than a month to learn a new and [...]
Last Chance to Vote on Ring of Honor Poll
The Ring of Honor poll that we have been running all week has gotten some interesting results. There is no clear leader, with Darren Woodson and Charlie Waters battling it out of the top stop. But, Harvey Martin, Jimmy, Too Tall, and Larry Allen have also had terrific showings. Tomorrow afternoon we will close the poll and start a new one. So, if you haven’t yet, make sure and vote.

Cowboys playing with fire at guard position
With the injury to Montrae Holland and the inexperience of David Arkin, right guard has become a concern for the Cowboys. Holland wasn’t that attractive of an option to begin with, but now that he’s hurt, he becomes even more of worry. David Arkin is a promising young player with young being the operative word. Bryan Broaddus recently said that he thought Arkin would beat out Holland for the starting guard spot, so he’s definitely talented, but it’s doubtful that he’s ready to come in and make a difference. While the uncertainty at guard has many calling for a free [...]
Yesterday in our comments section, Chi City Sports shared a petition that they thought might interest The Landry Hat. They thought wrong. While I applaud the creativity of Chi City Sports, and totally support the ultimate cause, the petition’s subject matter is something that we here at TLH find to be repugnant. CCS’s goal is to convince Roy Williams to stop with his ridiculous celebrations after trivial plays. They intend to raise money for whatever charity Roy would like if he promises to tone it down a notch. They’re having fun with an annoying display of poor sportsmanship and I [...]
Drew Pearson will be enshrined on the Ring of Honor
The Cowboys’ Ring of Honor carries more weight with me than the Hall of Fame. It just does. When Michael Irvin was on the verge of induction, we didn’t have to hear all the ridiculous character attacks that we did when he was being considered for the Hall of Fame. When it comes to election into the Ring, we don’t have to concern ourselves with the bias of the national media. Guys like Cliff Harris and Lee Roy Jordan have been repeatedly snubbed by the HOF, but we can take comfort in the fact that they’ve been given their rightfully [...]
If you haven’t figured out it already by looking at the current roster, the search for a 3rd wide receiver has officially begun. The Dallas Cowboys are exploring all options as they determine who will play behind Miles Austin and Dez Bryant at wideout this season. A crop of young wide receivers that includes Kevin Ogletree, Manuel Johnson, Jesse Holley, and rookie Dwayne Harris are all looking to fill the void left by recently released Roy Williams and Sam Hurd. But Dallas is also considering dipping into a dwindling free agent market to fill that need. “We want a younger [...]
Would the Cowboys cut Tashard Choice?
Yesterday on the Hardliners, Todd Archer said he wouldn’t be surprised if Tashard Choice ended up being cut from this football team. Not that Archer is expecting it, but he thinks it’s within the realm of possibility. Archer is a man in the know, so I doubt he was making those comments off the cuff. Tashard is a decent running back, but he’s not special. He has nice vision, can break some tackles, and is serviceable in pass protection. However, he’s an awful special teams player, providing the Cowboys with absolutely nothing in that department. If he were their featured [...]
