Doug Free Staying With the Cowboys

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, NFL Free Agency, Roster | COMMENTS: Comments Off

Last night, despite reports that the Cowboys were in an expensive “dog-fight” to maintain the services of Doug Free, the ‘Boys locked up the emerging tackle to a very reasonable 4 year, $32 million dollar contract with $17 million guaranteed. All the worrying was a waste of energy. We should’ve known Jerra would get it done. He rarely loses one of his own. The price tag on Free was far lower than expected. If they had put the franchise tag on him, it would’ve cost them around $10 million this year. Obviously, the average on this current deal is lower [...]

Doug Free Update — Stay away from our man, Mark Dominik

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, NFL Free Agency, Roster | COMMENTS: Comments Off

Doug Free was the first Cowboy seen at Valley Ranch today. No doubt, Jerry didn’t let him leave the building without a lengthy discussion. They probably even did some negotiating. Much has been made about the Cowboys’ need to re-sign Doug Free and rightfully so. He was their best offensive lineman last season and he’s only twenty-seven. They have made no secret about the fact that bringing him back is their number one priority this week. Earlier today, the Cowboys cleared a pretty significant amount of cap space by cutting a series of overpriced veterans. That was the first step [...]

Saying Good-Bye to Marion The Barbarian

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, Cuts, NFL, Roster | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

After months of speculation about which Cowboys’ players would be cap casualties, we didn’t have to wait long after the lockout was lifted to get some answers. The carnage today at Valley Ranch was quick and merciless like the beheading of Ned Stark. Roy Williams, Leonard Davis, Kris Brown, and Marion Barber can now all call themselves former Cowboys. And, Marc Colombo could be soon to follow depending on what happens with Doug Free. Davis and Colombo might return to Dallas under new contracts, but there isn’t much chance of that happening with Williams and Barber. While the move to [...]

Cowboys interested in Abram Elam at safety

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, NFL, NFL Free Agency | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

According to Clarence E. Hill and Matt Mosley, the Cowboys have been in contact with Cleveland safety, Abram Elam. Elam, who spent 2006 with Dallas, has been a top target for the team ever since Rob Ryan was hired. Ryan and Elam have an established relationship and Ryan is reportedly a big fan of Elam’s play. I can’t argue with adding players that are familiar with the ‘Boys new defensive schemes. However, this team really needs a free safety who can create some turnovers and that isn’t Elam. In forty-eight career starts, he only has three interceptions. If this move [...]

Next up on the Cowboys’ chopping block — Roy Williams

AUTHOR: | IN: Breaking News, Cowboys, Cuts | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Roy has been a poor fit right from the get go. He’s mental, overrated, and oblivious. Still, I won’t be too hard on him. After all, this is the second time he’s been dumped in the last month.

Hey Marion, Jerry needs a word…

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Cowboys have decided to part ways with Marion Barber. Is this the most un-shocking news of the day? Probably. However, it’s still worth mentioning. Cutting Barber will save the Cowboys $4.75 under the salary cap. They can probably sign all of their draft picks for the figure. Check back later today for a little trip down memory lane with The Barbarian. Clipped from: espn.go.com (share this clip)

Cowboys Will Release Leonard Davis This Week

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

According to Adam Schefter, Leonard Davis was among those that were informed by the Cowboys that they will be released this week. As previously mentioned here on TLH, Marc Colombo will also be cut. You might as well add Marion Barber to that list too. This move leaves the Cowboys with basically one lineman under contract — Andre Gurode. It also makes it imperative that they re-sign Kyle Kosier. There is the possibility that the Cowboys will re-sign Colombo and Davis to cheaper deals, but as of some time this week, the two lineman will be up for grabs. Whatever [...]

(Updated) Cowboys Cut Marc Colombo — Uh, Nevermind…

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: Comments Off

Updated: Despite previous reports to the contrary, the Cowboys are now saying that they will not cut Marc Colombo. And the crazy has officially begun. With the team roughly $14-$18 million over the new salary cap, everyone knew that some cuts would be coming and it appears that Marc Colombo will be the first. According to ESPN Dallas, Colombo will be cut today. Colombo’s story with the Cowboys has been one of perseverance. He was a former first round pick of the Bears who fought through injuries and being cut by the team that drafted him. In Dallas he became [...]

Dallas Cowboys Morning Roundup

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, Cuts, NFL Free Agency, NFL Lock-Out, Roster | COMMENTS: Comments Off

Consider this post a celebratory post. There is finally some actual football to discuss. Last night the ‘Boys added six undrafted free agents, with more coming today. The team’s first practice is in two days. And, most importantly, they can begin signing unrestricted free agents on Friday. In other words, BIG week. But, we are already knew that. Let’s get to some links and other randomness on this glorious labor strife free Tuesday morning. Clarence E. Hill of the Star Telegram says that the fans are the real losers in the lockout. Hill thinks the on field product will suffer [...]

The NFL Lockout is Over: What it Means to This Cowboys’ Fan

AUTHOR: | IN: Cowboys, NFL Lock-Out | COMMENTS: Comments Off

Following the NFL over the last few months has been like sitting in between two junior high girls while they fight over Justin Beiber tickets. We’ve been right in the middle of a fight between millionaires and billionaires over sums of money that 99.9% of us are unable to conceptualize. And, most of us don’t care either. At a time when most of the country is still trying to pull itself out of a severe economic depression, the squabbles of a bunch of rich men isn’t really something most people have any time for. For the most part, all we [...]
