Cowboys in pursuit of Nnamdi Asomugha (Updated)

According Matt Mosley, the chances of this happening are not great. Perhaps the “Boys are just trying to drive up the price on Nnamdi? More to come…

All things considered, yesterday was a quiet day on the Cowboys’ front. There were some expected cuts and draft pick signings, but overall nothing surprising happened. However, late last night, Pro Football Talk reported that the Cowboys were becoming players in the race to get Nnamdi Asomugha. Now, they are saying that the race to get the former Raider is down to just the Cowboys and Jets.

I still maintain that signing the most expensive free agent on the market is generally a bad idea. Especially when he is already thirty and has his sights set on an acting career. But, leave it to Jerry to go after something shiny. Sure Nnamdi will immediately help, but, with tight cap space the team will have in 2012, his price will be that much more costly.

The other problem with Nnamdi is that he doesn’t address the team’s highest needs — safety and defensive line. As of now, they still need to sign a couple of each because it defeats the purpose of having a shut-down corner if you can’t cover over the top or rush the passer.

With signings becoming official this evening, today was expected to be crazy and we are already off to a big start.
