It was just over a week ago that the NFL announced it was cancelling the Rookie Symposium, but it is not the end for the symposium. Assistant executive director of external affairs for the Players Association, George Atallah, announced that the players association would step up and host the event.
The symposium will take place June 28 and 29 in Washington, D.C.
“It was important for us to do this because it’s a critical time in the lives of players who are about to enter the league,” Atallah said, according to SI.com’s Jim Trotter. . “Lockout issues aside, it’s important that players are prepared for this next phase in their lives and careers.
“The symposium is a large, complex event involving many professionals and others. In fairness, we could not continue to keep their commitment on hold.”
The event will be voluntary, but the player’s association is said to be covering the cost of travel and lodging.
