John Clayton of ESPN made a list of 5 teams that will be hurt by the lockout and 5 teams who will survive the lockout. The Cowboys along with Saints, Falcons, Colts and Chargers are teams that Clayton believes can and will weather the lockout and come out fine.
Clayton said, “Tony Romo has done a great job organizing the three dozen players who are doing informal Cowboys workouts. Because he’s working with the same Jason Garrett system the offense has had for years, there is no learning curve for the players. Everyone knows the system. Romo can concentrate on timing and conditioning. The defense hasn’t had a chance to work with new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, but it can adjust to the new scheme in training camp.”
It is great news that someone like John Clayton sees the Cowboys in a great position to succeed despite the lockout. It is also nice that Romo and some of the other veteran guys are getting recognition for leading these workouts and preparing themselves for when the season does start.
We have heard questions in the past about whether or not Romo is or could be a leader, I think he is proving during the lockout that he is a leader for the Cowboys. I think the Cowboys should be in a great position whenever the season resumes and lets hope all the work and leadership spills on to the field and Romo can lead the Cowboys back to playoffs and beyond.
