Cowboys Fined For Contacting Players

According to NFL.com the Cowboys were one of five teams that were  fined or are under investigation by the NFL for violating off season rules prohibiting conversation with players before team activities are allowed.  According to the report several Cowboys players have mentioned meetings with new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan to get a head start on learning the new system.

NFL General Counsel Jeff Pash said the violations were not related to the NFL lockout which began March 12th.  Every season from the end of the season til around March 15th, the NFL rules bar teams from holding organized workouts, practice or meetings, and don’t allow postion coaches to supervise players. “Its a go home and relax period”, Pash said.  Since the lockout no contact between teams and players have been allowed, players are not being paid and are not allowed to talk about or negotiate contracts. Players are also not allowed to use team facilities.
