2011 Season: Roy Williams Day's in Dallas over?

When Roy Williams was traded to the Cowboys from the Detroit Lions it seemed as though the Cowboys were finally going to get that number one wide reciever that they were looking for. Upon being traded Williams signed a new deal with the Cowboys through the 2014 season. Many believed the Cowboys gave up too much for Williams, giving the Lions a first, third and sixth round pick. However Jerry Jones believed that Willams talent was worth that and that what he was giving up he would in return get from Williams.

Even though over the years Williams has not been a number one wide reciever as the Boys had hoped for he had some decent seasons. The 2010 season started off great for Williams as the first 4 weeks of the season he had 18 catches for 278 yards and 3 touchdowns since than he has only had 19 catches for 292 yards and 2 touchdowns, including the fumble in the Saints game that allowed the Saints to come back and win. Williams ended his season on Sunday in Philadelphia with 1 catch for 6 yards, a pretty nice sum up of what his season and career has been like for the Cowboys.

Recent comments made by Williams have shined a light on the Williams/Garrett relationship and has showed that the two don’t really see eye to eye at all. With Garrett looking at possibly being the new head coach for the Cowboys things do not look good for Willams. Williams who is set to make 5.1 million dollars next season and even more ever season until his contract ends in 2013 looks like he might not be with the Cowboys when the 2011 season starts.

I loved Roy Williams at Texas but he had not shown that ability to be a game changer in the NFL and with the Cowboys young core of Wide Receivers with Austin and Bryant and old reliable Jason Witten there is really no need to keep a guy who makes that much money only for him to be your third wide reciever. Williams and the Cowboys seemed like a match made in heaven when the deal was made in 2008 but now in 2010 it has soured very quickly. I believe that it is time for the Cowboys to cut their losses and go look for someone else.

Thank You for your time Roy but I think your time in Dallas is up. What do you all think keep Roy or cut him loose?
