Terrence Newman Fined $5,000

Starting cornerback Terrence Newman received an unnecessary roughness penalty in last week’s game after he “spear tackled” Washington Redskins receiver Santana Moss on a reverse. The penalty ultimately led to a Redskins touchdown. Newman was recently informed that  he has been fined $5,000 as a result of the hit.

Linebacker Anthony Spencer, who was sure he would be fined, did not receive a letter in the mail from the NFL office. Spencer received a penalty during the game for a hit on Rex Grossman. The NFL fined Spencer $12,500 for a hit on Eagles quarterback Michael Vick on December 12th. Spencer was also fined $5,000 for grabbing Jay Cutler’s facemask in Week 2.
