Former defensive line coach Paul Pasqualoni was promoted to defensive coordinator after the firing of Wade Phillips this past week. While it is silly to think Pasqualoni will completely overhaul the defensive scheme and make a boatload of changes, however, you can expect a significant change.
Pasqualoni is going to bring a level of intensity that the defense did not see under Wade Phillips.
“Coach P is very intense,” starting defensive end Stephen Bowen said. “He’s my line coach, so I’m used to it. For other people, their coaches may be laid back, but Coach P is in your face: `let’s get it done and that’s the way it is.’ Everybody is pretty much fired up, so that’s a good change.
“He’s naturally motivated like that. He really has a passion and love for the game. When you see somebody like that, you have no choice but to believe in what he’s saying.”
The players appreciate Coach P’s more energetic approach and know that it would be a near impossible task to change the defense in such a short time.
“I think the majority of it is the same,” linebacker DeMarcus Ware said. “I mean, you don’t want to go in and put 30 different plays in and having guys thinking when they’re already thinking with what we have.
“There’s always some little things that you can change, the way you feel like somebody is playing. But I think the base is in. He’s a little bit more intense coach, Paul Pasqualoni is, but at the end of the day it all comes out the same.”
