Kyle Kosier Injured; Montrae Holland Starts Second Half
In news that Dallas Cowboys fans are used to this season, starting left guard Kyle Kosier left the game with an achilles injury and was on the sideline in street clothes to start the second half. Filling in for Kosier is Montrae Holland. Holland has seen a lot of playing time this season and has done a solid job when his number was called. Last week, right guard Leonard Davis was benched for poor play and Holland was brought in to action. Holland remained in the game until he was forced to leave with a swollen eye. Hopefully he will [...]
Cowboys Overcome Penalties To Take Halftime Lead, 14-7
Despite having 6 first-half penalties totaling 63-yards, the Dallas Cowboys go into the half in Minnesota with a 14-7 lead over the Vikings. Both Cowboys touchdowns have come on receptions by the often criticized Roy E. Williams. Williams is proving his worth and has really turned it on this season. It seems that drafting Dez Bryant has given Williams a new fire and he is now producing at a great rate. He has 5 touchdowns in four and a half games. The Cowboys offense put together a 14 play drive that took over seven minutes off the clock at the [...]
Excessive Celebration: The Lack Of Discipline Continues
The Dallas Cowboys got off to a quick start when Tony Romo hit Roy Williams on a 15-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Following the touchdown, Miles Austin came sprinting behind Williams and leapfrogged him. The result? Another excessive celebration penalty against Dallas. Last week, Jason Witten handed the ball to Marc Colombo after the game-tying touchdown. Colombo then fell to the ground during the celebration and a flag was issued. That penalty led to the game-winning touchdown drive for the Titans. While the Cowboys have secured a turnover and early touchdown against Minnesota, the unnecessary penalties and total [...]
The Degenerate Gambler: Week 6 Edition
Through 5 weeks, my picks are exactly at 50% right and 50% wrong. What does that tell you. That I’m as accurate as a coin. So in this week, there will be two sets of picks. Picks that I made, and picks that were made by a flipped quarter. If I win the competition, we all go out to Denny’s for dinner (dutch of course). If I lose, I have to eat my wifes home cooking. San Diego -8.5: They always start 2-3, and they always play well for the remainder of the season. Expect the turn around to start [...]
W2W4 V. Vikings
This game is a must win for both teams. The Cowboys were embarrassed by the Vikings in last year division playoff game. The Vikings scored a seemingly meaningless touchdown late in the game. Keith Brooking vowed revenge. It’s now time to cash that check his mouth wrote. The game hinges on the four P’s (there would have been five, but prowd noise isn’t clever word play). Pride: Normally when teams get beat badly, they come out the following week and play with purpose. I haven’t seen this from the Cowboys in many years. You could say that it is because [...]
Then V. Now: Vikings Edition
It should go without saying that the rematch between the Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings are against two entirely different teams. The faces may be the same, the schemes are the same, even the popcorn vendors are the same. The teams are not. Last year the Cowboys struggled to protect Tony Romo. Marc Colombo was returning from a broken leg, and Flozell Adams was injured early in the game and replaced by Doug Free. Amazingly, Jason Witten on one play was given the task of pass blocking against Jared Allen. Witten doesn’t win that battle in the made for TV [...]
Dez Bryant Will Be A Go Against The Vikings
Cowboys first-round pick Dez Bryant was limited in practice this week with an ankle injury and head coach Wade Phillips was worried about the young receivers availability for tomorrow night’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. Everyone can now breathe a sigh of relief as Michael Lombardi of NFL Network. Bryant has also said that he will be able to go. “My ankle’s not fine, but it’s a lot better,” Bryant said. “I can deal with it. . . . I’ll be ready. We knew what the situation was. We knew what to do to treat it and everything. I got [...]
Robert Brewster Released
The writing was on the wall when the Cowboys added Jermey Parnell to the roster earlier in the week. With Brewster’s release (a 3rd round pick), the 2009 Cowboys Draft Class continues to devolve into absolute mediocrity. Jason Williams, Victor Butler and Brandon Williams, quarterback Stephen McGee and kicker David Buehler remain on the roster; however, Buehler has struggled, McGee has looked less than impressive against 3rd stringers in the pre-season and the jury is still out on the Williams. Butler has shined as a pass rusher, but not consistently. Jesse Holley will assume Brewster’s spot on the 53 man [...]
Mike Jenkins Vows To Have Improved Game
Cowboys starting quarterback Mike Jenkins had an abysmal game last week against the Titans. He was blown by in coverage on numerous occasions and committed multiple pass interference penalties. Jenkins also displayed hands that prove why he is a corner and not a receiver when he dropped a Vince Young pass that should have been a sure interception. Jenkins will be faced with the daunting task of covering Randy Moss and Percy Harvin this week. “It’s not going to happen again,” Jenkins said. “It’s a good week to come back on, I was going to put that behind me no [...]
A Possible Explanation for the Cowboys Struggles
You will be hard pressed to find anyone wiling to compare the Cowboys to the Colts, but that’s just what I am about to do. People are looking at every angle to determine the cause of the 1-3 start. Some people blame the offensive line, some blame Wade Phillips for his lax style which permeates the organization, and many will blame Jason Garrett for being too pass happy. The fact of the matter is that the games have been competitive. One play here or there would make a huge difference in the outcome. This article isn’t about attributing culpability, but [...]
