Goodbye Bandwagon Fans

Free Shipping on all purchases of over 1000“True” Cowboys fans always complain about the bandwagon.  It’s often crowded, full of unwashed and undereducated fellows.  Well, welcome to the 2010 version.  Roomier, with more luggage space, and is that a hint of vanilla in the air.  It sure beat BO.  Now the fans calling for Wade Phillips’s head are undoubtedly true Cowboys fans.

As always bandwagoners, please watch your step as you jump across to Patriots’s or the Jet’s wagon.  Also, please remember your commemorative t-shirt printed in the Cowboys colors of silver and blue:

Well, I must say it was an entertaining entry. I've been a season seat holder for years and so are my parents. I remember going to Texas Stadium in the 1980s and looking at players such as Sweeney and Hogeboom. I still don't consider Wade to be the problem because the GM picks the players. He's more at fault in this sitauation because you don't hire a coach in waiting to be your OC and then hire a coach. Wade should've been allowed to select his own person. For some reason Jerry forgot that teams are constructed from the inside out. Only a qb is more important. The Ware pick was justified because that's a once in a lifetime player. A qb without a good oline is useless. It's going to take some time to fix this situation, but the problem is that the players they have are getting older. I hope Dez will turn into a great player, but the pick should've gone to the oline. If you look at teams such as Indy,NE, and the Jets they have spent a ton of picks on that spot. It's common for Indy and NE to take one literally every year so if one doesn't pan out they have another one. This has been very depressing for everyone because we all were led to believe that it could do the job. This line is one of the oldest in the league and why he didn't address it in the earlier draft is beyond me. Had he made the trade that involved Marty B we could've probably gotten the great lineman who's the basis for the blind side. You take that deal because you can find another backup TE, but great lineman are hard to come by. Flacco and Sanchez benefit from great protection and that has led to winning records. Romo can't do anything more without great protection. Running backs and receivers are essential to his success, but they can't come before the line. If that is shored up then you can take a receiver or elite TE if you want.

Vee, I think I may be writing solely for your benefit. You seem to be one of the select few who understand when I am joking. For that, I say danka.

I agree it will take time to fix the o-line. Not just getting the right people in, but letting them gel together. It's not a quick process. It could take 2 full seasons before a new o-line plays at their highest possible level. I don't think we have the time to wait.

I really do like Dez (which surprises the heck out of me). I wanted Bryan Bulaga, but he has only started two games this year for the Packers, and I heard an opinion the other day that he is destined to play guard and not tackle because of his style of play. If he fell to us and we took him over Dez... we might have one more win because he would have played rather than Barron. I don't think Bulaga goes straight for the bear hug when pass blocking.

I don't think the Bengals would have seriously offered a 1st round pick for Bennett. I think Jerry misspoke and they offered a 2nd. I could be wrong, the Bengals are a stupid organization, but I can't see any team giving a 1st for him. Though the pick would have been for the 2010 draft, not 2009. But if we hadn't traded for Roy Williams, we would have had a 1st round pick and would have been able to take Mike Oher. I doubt we would have, but it was possible.

1-4 to start... 12-4 still is up for grabs!!!

Oh gimme a break.

I've been a fan since the mid-60s. When the team doesn't play up to its potential, making stupid mistakes and penalties that cost us games, I'm gonna say so. I'm sick and tired of being called a "bandwagon juper" just because I dare to point out that Your Heroes are playing like Keystone Kops!

To all the Pollyannas out there: is the pre-season over yet?

I'm not saying that true fans can't complain. Lord knows I am going to have my airing my grievances. But I do expect true fans to have a base of knowledge to substantiate their complaints. At the very least, they have watched enough football to have a sense of what is going on in the game.

Firing Wade isn't going to do much other than satisfy people with blood lust. Blaming Romo for the pics is myopic because they don't view the context of the throws.

I fully expect that many of us left will legitimately lambaste the Cowboys.

Well, its your blog -- you can define a "fan" anyway you want.

But ALL of us started out as a fan that didn't know much about the team, when it was all new to us. Every fan has a right to his or her opinion. I may not always agree with it, and Lord knows folks don't always agree with me, but the one thing we have in common is that we're all fans.

If they want to jump ship, let 'em. Who cares?

I care about the Cowboys, and it sickens me to watch what they've become. As I've said before, if Jerry wants credit for those three SB Trophies, then he gets the blame for this mess.

It all startsd at the top.

I'd disagree. It's our blog. You have just as much imput as I do by giving your opinion, and I do appreciate it.

I was just trying to be funny. When we are ALL as down as we are, a little levity helps us get through the situation.

I'm not looking to define what exactly is a bandwagon fan, but those who don't know who are starting quarterback but claim to be a Cowboys fan... I think we can put them in the BW category.

After the Giants won the Super Bowl a few years back, people wore Giants jerseys to my wife's work. You could practically see the impression where the price tag was recently removed.

Yes, there is a point in time where we all passively (through childhood) or actively say, "I am a fan of this team." It shouldn't be immediately after watching them for the first time all season.

I think most people would agree that a certain amount of dues need to be paid. Watch a full season, know the head coach and quarterbacks name, know which city they play in... the basics. I'm not expecting people to know Chandler, Holley, and Brent. Knowing their record also is a plus.

And turning Judas on a team and denying them three times a la Peter should at least put you on probation for a year.
