Mike Hamlin Cut – Opening a Possible Spot for a Kicker?

Mike Hamlin was cut today. He was inactive for nearly every game so far in 2010. Hamlin was a 5th round pick in 2009. I don’t believe that is the real story. The big question is “Who will take his roster spot?” Scott Chandler was added to the roster when Deon Anderson was let go, so it isn’t a reaction to a lack of depth at the tight end spot. Former Eagles safety, Quintin Demps was worked out by the Cowboys last week.  Alan Ball bit hard on play action against the Titans which lead to a big gain through the air.  Ball’s role as starter may be in jeopardy.

But maybe, just maybe a change will be made at kicker. The Cowboys would retain David Buehler as their kickoff specialist and bring in Matt Stover to kick anything within 40 yards. Buehler would kick anything in excess of 40 yards. Buehler may even be given another opportunity next year to compete for the sole place kicking position. Previously I have stated that Buehler is not responsible for the 1-3 start, but just maybe some small changes are forthcoming.

Unfortunately for Hamlin, the performance of another player at a different position leads to his unemployment.  If the Cowboys do bring in Demps, Hamlin would only have himself to blame as he was simply not good enough to push Ball for the starting job.  Good luck finding work Hamlin, the economy is a mess right now, but maybe the UFL could use your services.
