Your Thoughts on Emmitt’s Speech
I liked Emmitt’s Hall of Fame Speech, but I wouldn’t say that it will register as the most emotionally charged or memorable speech. Certainly the gold standard of HOF speeches was given by Michael Irvin. If yall have thoughts regarding the speech, please feel free to comment.
Free Red Zone Channel from DirecTv
Earlier today I contacted DirecTv and discussed how I could switch providers and receive the Red Zone Channel (RZC) for around $7 per month. For those who do not know, the RZC broadcasts the best part of live games. When teams cross over into the 30 yard line and are close to scoring, the game switches over. If there’s another game with an amazing highlight, they switch over immediately and show you the highlight while the offense huddles up. It’s football concentrate injected directly into your soul. Back to my discussion: over a 4 month football season, I’d spend approximately $28 versus [...]
Are the Jets Good or Delusional?
Rex Ryan takes after his father, Buddy Ryan. They have a preternatural understanding of defense, they are fat unathletic guys who know how to motivate true athletes, and they both have had success at the NFL level. Ryan has every expectation to make the playoffs and win a Super Bowl. Is this Ryan taking a page out of Jimmy Johnson‘s handbook, a self-fulfilling prophecy the players eventually believe. Cowboys fans all recollect Johnson’s prediction that the Cowboys would beat the 49ers in the NFC Championship game. Is this simply a modern day version of Johnson’s confidence and hubris? Mark Sanchez will [...]
Wandering Thoughts: Notes From Cowboys Camp
Some notes, tidbits and thoughts after close to two weeks of Cowboys Camp in the air conditioned Alamodome, San Antonio. - Dez Bryant suffered a high ankle sprain last Friday, and will be out for most – if not all – of the preseason action. Am I worried? No. Bryant doesn’t need to learn the intricacies of the route tree to be able to make an impact on the field. Bryant’s two best assets as a receiver: creating yards after the catch (YAC) and running from start to finish, the fade or 9-route. Getting the ball to Bryant on screens [...]
Kolb Hates What He Once Loved
Kevin Kolb was born in Victoria, Texas (7 years after I was born in Victoria). He grew up roughly 100 miles southwest of Dallas. As most Texans will tell you, that’s a short drive in a fast car. Kolb has admittedly grown up as a Cowboys fan. In 2007 Kolb was drafted by Andy Reid and the Philadelphia Eagles. Can a player who once loved the Cowboys now hate them. The answer, as any divorcée can tell you, is a resounding yes. In 1992, the year the Cowboys won their first of the 3 championships in the 90′s, Kolb was 8 years [...]

When is an Uncapped Year Not an Uncapped Year?
2010: The Uncapped Year coming to a theatre near you. Seemingly the only fans who were able to see the movie were the Redskins and Bears fans. Both teams had a frenzy of spending for free agents and both teams will miss the playoffs in 2010. Undoubtedly, with an ending like that, the movie can only get 2 stars. It does beg the question, “Why isn’t Jerry Jones restructuring deals to pay his top talent most of their money in the 2010 season with the remaining years, 2011 through 2015, being extremely cap friendly?” Here are a few answers with only [...]
Per Jerry Jones: Quincy Could Have Been Romo
You will be hard pressed to find a bigger continuing fan of Quincy Carter than myself. When Carter was cut, it was tantamount to a “You remember where you were when it happened” moment for me. According to Jerry Jones: The other thing I wanted to mention is the quarterback position. To put it in golf terms, I try to hit across the water; that’s my style, rather than laying up and going to the green to get us a quarterback after Aikman retired. And we ultimately just didn’t get it done. [Quincy] Carter was [Tony] Romo. Carter could move [...]
Favre Retires Again, Do You Believe It?
Reports from around the league indicate that Brett Favre has made a decision not to return to the Minnesota Vikings for the 2010 season. Consequently, the class of the NFC North become the Green Bay Packers. This is Favre’s third retirement in 3 years (Packers, Jets, and Vikings). Favre has indicated that his recovery from the ankle surgery in May has not progressed to the point to where he could play effectively. The Vikings return to their 2008 version with Tavaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels manning the helm. Brad Childress, the head coach and play caller for the Vikings, was [...]
A Must Read Article About Hazing
While it certainly won’t be the final word on hazing, this article by John P. Lopez addresses the hazing issue with the consideration that the NFL is a business and that hazing isn’t written into the collective bargaining issue. Here are a few snippets that are worth reading in advance. There simply are not very many corporate monsters bigger or more meticulously managed than the multi-billion dollar NFL. Yet even the most innocent of hazing chores, like carrying a veteran’s shoulder pads to the locker room, could be interpreted as a violation of basic H.R. policy. It’s the football equivalent [...]
