Fortunately Dez Bryant is only expected to miss the next four to six weeks with a high ankle sprain. The news could be worse and considering that fact, Cowboys fans need to appreciate Patrick Crayton even more. For a team that has Super Bowl aspirations, certainly having depth at a key position like wide receiver is paramount.
Miles Austin does have a history of injuries. Fluke plays like the one that Bryant was injured, happen all the time in football. If Crayton were traded for a 2011 5th round pick, the Cowboys might find themselves in a scenario with Roy Williams and Sam Hurd starting at the corners with Jesse Holley in the slot. Ironically, most Cowboys fans have more confidence in Hurd than Williams.
Next to Jon Kinta, please consider Crayton the most important backup on the team.
