Dez Suffers High Ankle Sprain

by Cowboys

Our first opportunity to view Dez Bryant in a Cowboys uniform will be delayed by 4 to 6 weeks. While participating in drills, Bryant was tangled up with Orlando Scandrick and suffered the injury.

Unfortunately, high ankle sprains (v. Normal sprained ankles) take much longer to recover from and can linger even after the player has returned to the field.

I spoke with a sports doctor/scientist yesterday, and they believe that Bryant should be fully recovered -- or very close to -- after five weeks. And that the sixth week will be all about re-gaining the confidence to cut and run at full speed on the ankle. He should be fine for the opener.

He should be, but the timing with Romo will be off, and his conditioning will suffer a bit. Not to mention the reps lost will affect him in the short run. But he will be fine in the long run.
