I’m not 100% sure I believe that Dez Bryant doesn’t know about the mild hazing rookies undergo. If that’s the case, then he was basically telling Roy Williams to carry his own weight (which is what Cowboys fans have been asking for years). If he knew of the situation, he is standing against hazing in general. If he was ignorant, he was simply being discourteous to an underachieving veteran. I prefer the former over the latter, but at least Bryant is making a concerted effort to diffuse the story which was the biggest national non-story in the early 2010 season.
Bryant was quoted saying the following:
“I told Roy this, I said if that situation was going to turn out that big, he could have walked in with his tights on,” Bryant said after the team’s first of two practices Tuesday. “I would have took his shoulder pads, his pants, his helmet, his socks, his shoes. I would have took everything. But you know what, that’s not even an issue.”
The humor set the right tone. Again, I find my self more endeared to Bryant despite the 180 degree turn. With the mea culpa, maybe we can finally hear about football matters like, “Who will win the 5th CB/special teams spot?
