Prepare To Represent The NFC [B]East

Over the next few weeks, all of the NFL sites across the Fansided Network will be coming together and putting together an all-star squad for each division. This means we will have to put our hatred for the division rivals aside and come together to represent the best division in the NFL.

We will be working with the Redskins, the Giants, and Eagles blogs to put together our NFC East team. If our lead bloggers cannot come to an agreement, a vote will be held to determine the player who earns the debated roster spot. Tie-breaker votes will be held over at the ‘Skins site, Riggo’s Rag, and I will make sure to point you all in the right direction when the time comes to vote.

After each division is represented with an all-star team, there will be a huge vote on Fansided.com until only one team stands in the NFC and AFC. At that time one final vote will be held to see which division is the best in the NFL. We all know this is the NFC East, so prepare to VOTE!

This is a time to appreciate and respect the talent throughout the division. So get ready for for the coming competition and prepare to represent the NFC [B]East!

If the lists main criteria is career accolades and accomplishments, then yes, Jackson would beat Austin out. However, if it is based on opinion (my own), talent and ability, then Austin should win hands down. Jackson can be shut down, the Cowboys defense proved that. Austin was only really shut down in the first Philly game (yet still scored the game-winning touchdown) and against Charles Woodson of Green Bay. Jackson on the other hand, performed poorly against Carolina, Tampa Bay, Dallas (twice) and Washington. I could chuck the Denver game in there, too, but I won't, because he did at least score a touchdown.

I love Miles Austin just about more than anyone, but I think my little list there just tells one big point. There isn't a great WR in the division that you can point to as a dominant force. Austin, Bryant, and Jackson can be that, but I'm not sure that we have a TO in his prime in the division.

And to be truthful, I listed Austin as #2 because I didn't want to be such a homer listing nothing but Cowboys. The fact is that Jackson is a solid wide receiver who can handle returns. I wanted to put a big WR opposite a speedster, but there isn't a Plaxico or Owens in the division anymore. Heck, Roy Williams is a big WR, but I would be laughed at if he was even on the list.

I really do hope that Austin has another big year and without a doubt he would be the best WR in the division, but he is still at #2.

Jackson has had two consecutive years of fairly good production. The reason I put Austin above him, though, is because Austin is the better receiver. Jackson is speed receiver; he can go deep and he can cause some trouble on screens, but he can't go across the middle and he can't make contested catches, whereas Austin can do all of the above. Jackson is a playmaker now, but what happens when that 4.3 speed he has drops to 4.4 or 4.5 in the next couple of years. And just one other note, he can also be effectively jammed by a good corner, a la, Mike Jenkins. Austin on the other hand, is so strong that corners find it very difficult to push him off his route.

Yeah I understand what you are saying. I think is the better receiver but can he be considered the number 1 receiver in the division after 1 year? Austin still has to prove he can do it again which maybe keeps him at number 2 in the NFC East. If we just go by who is the better player as of last year then Austin should be on top.

Not a bad list Joe D.
Here's where I'd change it:
I wouldn't have Aaron Ross as the no. 1 CB, no way.
I wouldn't even have Buchanon on the list, Terrell Thomas is far superior to him.
I'd have Antrel Rolle over Landry. LaRon Landry is an out of control player that can't cover and over runs the play too often in the running game.
I'd have Ware as my Will and Orakpo as my Sam.
I'd have Colombo (healthy) over McKenzie.
I'd have Austin over Jackson and maybe even have Steve Smith over him as well.
I do not rate Jacobs highly, and wouldn't have him on the list at all.

That's fair. I think Rolle is a bit over-rated and exceptionally overpaid, but that's mostly a difference of opinion. The rest I can't/don't want to argue about.

As for Jacobs, he didn't play well last year. But the previous years, he's just a load to bring down. If he has running room (which the Giants line usually gives him, he is twice the back the Barber was in his prime. The fact of the matter is that I don't like any of the front line running backs in the NFC East.

Skins: All old and well past their prime
Eagles: Released their best back in Westbrook, and none of the backs could get a 3rd and short if their life depended on it.
Giants: Jacobs got paid and then got lazy. Great for Cowboys fans, but not in the compilation of this list.
Cowboys: I loved Barber, but he has played hurt the last two years and has not been as explosive. When he loses that explosiveness and you compound the fact that he was never fast to begin with, suddenly, you have a mediocre back. I LOVE Felix, but I'm not sure that he is Brian Westbrook or Tiki Barber (small backs who can carry the load by themselves if called upon). I like Tashard, but I would feel like too much of a homer if I put him on the list.

Yeah I like most of your picks besides the FS position I agree with Rolle. Austin I beleive is the better receiver but you were right to put him 2nd due to only having one great season under his belt. If you go by last year alone I would put Austin first Jackson second. I think the CB position should have Jenkins number 1 and Newman second. Still solid picks you have.

I jumped the gun. Here are the people I like with absolutely no consideration of the salary cap. If I had to keep the cap in mind, the entire team would be significantly different.

QB 1 Tony Romo
QB 2 Donovan McNabb
QB 3 Eli Manning
RB 1 Brandon Jacobs
RB 2 Felix Jones
RB 3 LeSean McCoy
FB Madison Hedgecock
TE 1 Jason Witten
TE 2 Chris Cooley
TE 3 Brent Celek
LT David Diehl
LG Chris Snee
C Andre Gurode
RG Leonard Davis
RT Kareem McKenzie |
WR 1 DeSean Jackson
WR 2 Miles Austin
WR 3 Steve Smith
WR 4 Dez Bryant
WR 5/Special teams Sam Hurd
T/G Jason Peters
G/C Shaun O'Hara

LE Trent Cole
RE Osi Umenyiora
DT Jay Ratliff
DT Albert Haynesworth
DT Justin Tuck
E Andre Carter
E Mathias Kiwanuka
E Brandon Grahm
SOLB DeMarcus Ware
WOLB Brian Orakpo
SILB Keith Brooking
WILB London Fletcher
OLB Anthony Spencer
CB 1 Aaron Ross
CB 2 Mike Jenkins
CB 3 Terrence Newman
CB 4 Asante Samuel
CB 5 Phillip Buchanon
FS Laron Landry
SS Kenny Phillips
S Gerald Sensabaugh
S Chris Horton
Kicker David Akers
Punter Matt McBriar
Long snapper L.P. LaDoucheur

They have Jay Ratliff at DE. It just seems wrong to me. And I see myopic Redskins fans just voting for their Skins player regardless of the talent of the other teams. I don't think anyone in their right mind would take Skin's talent over the other three teams, save for Chris Cooley. Maybe Haynesworth or the DE they took last year. Maybe.

voting has begun over at Riggo's Rag! I will throw up a post soon. Make sure to represent!

So when are we going to do this? Do we have to pay any attention to salary cap?

The funny part is going to be when we come together to vote for the QB. I beleive Romo is the better QB if you go by last season. I can't wait to see how this turns out because I still see our team having better players across the board. The position we won't have is Saftey and OL most likely.

Wait, I do like Cooley, but not over Witten.

Just off the top of my head, I'd take the Giants o-line, our skilled players and then most of our defense. I'd take Andy Reid off of the Eagles.

I'm trying to think of I like any of the skins players. I'm thinking no.
