I was listening to the NFL Network yesterday and Solomon Wilcots described Romo as a young QB who is still learning. Regardless of age, you will always learn new things. Romo turns 30 today, so can we stop calling Romo young?
Yes, it is all relative. 50 year olds want to be 30, 60 year olds want to be 40, and 90 year olds just wait for the sweet embrace of death.
Romo has given all Cowboys fans a gift the past four years. Not only has he given the gift of quality play on the field, but he was been a player we can be proud of. Not only is he skilled at throwing the pigskin, he can change a flat tire. We have questioned his decision making at times (I would question his choice in movies), but I certainly have no objection to who accompanies him. Romo even likes kids, and fans who were fans since they were kids. Though he did ignore my child at the AT&T National Pro-Am. Everyone says she’s cute as a button; they can’t all be lying. Maybe she’s only as cute as a cuff link.
Here’s hoping Jerry Jones gives Romo a few belated birthday gifts in this upcoming draft. Not some “bling” like Favre got last year with Percy Harvin, but something useful like luggage. Something that lasts forever, and every time you use it, you think fondly of the one who gave it to you. A left tackle (Charles Brown, Anthony Davis, or Jared Gaither for a 2nd round pick) would be lovely, but in a pinch, Maurkice Pouncey would do nicely.
Happy birthday Tony.
