McNabb Not Traded to the Niners: Both Sets of Fans Upset
By: Joe D. Don’t believe the rumors. It’s entirely untrue. It’s not even that great of a hoax. They misspelled Donovan McNabb’s name in the title. More news of non-news to come.
What If Wednesday: Jake Delhomme a Cowboys QB?
By: Joe D. Last week Jake Delhomme was released after a seven year career in Carolina. Many will recall that Jake Delhomme was a free agent in 2003 and his decision was between the Panthers and a quarterback starved Cowboys team lead by Bill Parcells. In a rare turn of events, Jerry Jones held his wallet close to his heart and Delhomme signed with the Panthers as they were offering nearly a million dollars more per season. How did 1 million dollars change the course of Cowboys history? Let’s wildly speculate. It’s irresponsible to say that one player will have [...]
Is Losing Gerald Sensabaugh Worth a 2nd Round Pick?
By: Joe D. According to early reports, their have been three to four teams who have contacted Gerald Sensabaugh in the early stages of free agency. The Dallas Cowboys placed a 2nd round tender on Sensabaugh. This means that the Cowboys can match any contract offer of another team, or if the Cowboys elected not to match, they would receive a second round draft pick from that team. Similarly, last year it was Miles Austin who received a 2nd round tender and there was some serious interest displayed by the NY Jets. My opinion at that time is that Austin was an unknown factor. He [...]
Antrel Rolle Goes To Giants; Cowboys Fans Celebrate
Antrel Rolle is now the highest-paid safety in the NFL, signing with divisional foe New York Giants for too much damn money. Should Dallas Cowboys fans celebrate the silence from Jerry Jones’ office during the second day of the NFL’s free agency carnival? Last year the Cowboys signed a guy by the name of Keith Brooking, who was at the tail end of a career spent with the Atlanta Falcons. He’s a former player of Cowboys coach Wade Phillips. The Zach Thomas Experiment failed. The Brooking Experiment was a success. Finally, the team has a freak show, with no fo-sho [...]
By: Joe D. Anquan Boldin, along with a 5th round pick, was traded Friday night to the Baltimore Ravens for 3rd and 4th round draft picks. Boldin also signed a 4 year contract valued at $28 million with $10 million in guaranteed money. In regards to salary, Boldin now earns nearly as much as the Cowboys’s highest paid WR, Roy Williams. This trade is on the heels of the Braylon Edwards trade to the NY Jets for a conditional 3rd (could become a 2nd round pick) and a 5th round choice. WR Chansi Stuckey and LB Jason Trusnik were traded to Cleveland [...]
Written by theMBIIIeffect Aside from a trade or two, there isn’t a whole lot to talk about on free agency’s first 12 hours. There’s even less to talk about for the Dallas Cowboys. Reports out of Dallas say that Jerry Jones hasn’t been in touch with any big-name free agents. Free safety target Antrel Rolle has been in touch with the Giants, and his asking price might be out of the Cowboys’ price range according to Calvin Watkins: “…the Cowboys like Mr. Rolle, but not if they have to give him a five-year deal worth about $25-30 million. The Cowboys [...]
Madden Curse: A Self-fulfilling Prophecy?
By: Joe D. I was convenience shopping today, and my heart skipped a beat. After being revived by the paramedics, I further investigated the Doritos and EA Sports partnership. They are “synergizing” and the public gets to vote on who next graces the Madden Cover. Immediately I had an ambivalent reaction. The irrational sports side of my brain thought, “God, I hope Tony Romo isn’t voted onto the cover.” The logical side said, “I can’t believe how stupid I can be.” This fight between the two sides is as vociferous as the Hatfield V. McCoy battle. Sunday afternoons are the normal battleground – I [...]
Washington Redskins Plan Major Overhaul?
I heard from several sources that the Washington Redskins, one of the league’s worst teams in the past decade, plan to dump numerous players tonight. A 7 p.m. press conference is expected. Although new coach Mike Shanahan has said Clinton Portis will be on the team in 2010, he is one name mentioned that could get kicked to the curb. But he is not the only one who could be out of Skin Country. I’ve heard at least five others players could be released, including Rock Cartwright, Randall El Al or whatever his name is, and a couple of other [...]
Written by theMBIIIeffect Draft time and free agency in the NFL is a lot like Christmas. Your franchise gets new toys. The Cowboys have a few different types of toys on their wish lists through free agency and the draft, with the most glaring needs at free safety, offensive tackle, middle linebacker and slot receiver. Here are the players that should be at the top of the Jerry Jones’ wishlist, should he decide to pursue them in free agency or with the 27th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Free Safety: Antrel Rolle of the Cardinals figures to be [...]
Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips believes that kicker David Buehler can be a reliable field goal kicker. Does this concern anyone else other than me? The Cowboys may draft a field goal kicker late, but there does not seem to be any interest in finding out through the free agent market. I cannot tell you how important it is to have a solid field goal kicker for a playoff caliber team. Unless Buehler starts belting 50-yard field goals in the preseason, there is absolutely no reason for any coach to hand him the task. He didn’t beat out Nick [...]
