Cowboys Should Draft Best Returner In College: Akwasi Owusu-Ansah (VIDEO)

I don’t think there are a lot of people out there who could argue that the Dallas Cowboys do not have enough talent to win a Super Bowl. They do. And they have relatively young talent outside from a few guys.

This is why at least in the second round the Cowboys should pick players who fill holes the team has and who can play immediately. With the first round pick at No. 27, I think the Cowboys should take the best available offensive lineman on their talent list.

But in the second round, there is one guy who I’ve researched who might be a perfect fit for the Cowboys. His name is Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, a cornerback from Indiana at Pennsylvania. I have to admit that I didn’t know who the guy was until I began researching possible draft picks for the Cowboys. I was looking for the best return guys and Owusu-Ansah’s name popped up on a few scouts’ radars. I checked out his stats, his background and some of his best plays.

The guy is a playmaker. At the combine, he ran a 4.47 and his best was 4.38 at the Pro Day. He’s also 6 feet tall and hits pretty hard as a cornerback.

He had one of the better punt returns in college for the year:

Owusu-Ansah fills two one hole for the Cowboys by giving them a true punt return threat that’s been missing for a decade. But he also adds depth to the secondary and possibly could push Orlando Scandrick to only nickel packages. And here is another video on him doing more than returning punts:

Christramm,

I'd love it if two quality players fell to us in the first 2 rounds, but there's no guarantee. We have reached for players in the past due to need, and while I certainly hope we get an OT and G (safety too) who are main stays, I certainly would hope we get the best player who is going to be around a long time, even if it is a redundancy, RB, OLB, CB, etc.

Hi, good fit, I agree. But not a second round pick, 4th round would be good though. We have a get a OT and a FS in the first two rounds and a WR in the 3rd.

That's DII football, not NFL. So any greatness he shown in the highlight reels could easily be negated by guys that are really fast and can tackle. Plus, let's say he is a great returner, can he play cornerback? I didn't see any plays where he was covering a receiver. Therefore, I couldn't see his hip movement, breaks on the ball, vision, and overall coverage ability. I need to have more reasons to have him on my team.

If the guy is a player, Jay Ratliff, for instance, I don't care if we reach. If we took Jay in the 2nd round, the Cowboys would have been blasted by every analyst in the country. Obviously he's a player, and a great one at that.

As for Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, he played in division II. So the talent he is competing against isn't special. Also, I would be surprised to find out that IUP is a hotbed for DII talent, let alone play against good DII talent. A few years ago, when LaRon Landry was drafted, his highlight reel was of QB's throwing up pop flys, and him catching them. If it's a play that I could make on the football field, then it isn't a highlight. In the above, there was some incredibly bad tackling. The guy has good size, but his game speed doesn't impress me. Maybe he was being patient waiting for his blockers to set up, but what I saw was a good play by someone who is bigger and stronger than the competition.

I have the guy on my draft board, (which is coming along quite nicely) but not until round six give or take. Again, if he's a player, then take him in the first round. Though, my finger isn't on that trigger until day 3.

Wow, I hadn't heard about this kid until I read your post. I'd have to agree he could be a great addition.

If he's there in the third, fine. But in the second? I don't know if we need that much depth at corner. I'd rather see us address safety. Could this guy make the shift? He has the size and doesn't seem to mind contact. I would love to hear Jerry, Emmitt and Wade try to pronounce this guy's name.
