All’s Still Quiet In Dallas

Written by theMBIIIeffect

So Jerry Jones is still without a major free agency move.

The biggest potential move was Gerald Sensabaugh’s exit, but he’s still in Dallas. As many as six teams have inquired about him, but he’s still in Dallas.

Yawn.

There are still a few things going on in the world of the Cowboys, though.

  • Irving’s Texas Stadium is getting blown up on April 11th. The town is charging $25 per car to watch the old hole-in-the-roof stadium go down. I’d gladly pay whatever they’re asking to give the old girl a good sendoff.
  • Jones is saying that the possibility of Greg Ellis returning to Dallas is “not unrealistic.” Thanks for being clear here, Jer. He’d be willing to be a third-down pass rusher. Think he’d be willing to play end again if someone signs Marcus Spears?
  • Jones is going to introduce Emmitt Smith at his Hall of Fame induction. Everybody say “awwwwwwwwww.”
  • The 2009 draft class has yet to show its full talent-they’ve just needed time.
  • The Giants will play the first game at the new Meadowlands Stadium. Whoever will they play?
  • Jerruh spoke up on behalf of American owners in the English Premier League. That’s soccer, folks.
  • DeMarcus Ware fell only 11 points short of Patrick Willis in this year’s Butkus Award, which honors the best linebacker in the NFL. He won the award last season.

And that’s about it. I guess no news is good news out of Dallas still.

For one, I’m looking forward to the draft. I don’t like that it’s going to be split up over three days-the first round of the draft is going to be on a Thursday night, for crying out loud-and that it’s going to be during prime time. The NFL draft is supposed to be a weekend thing.

If nothing new comes out of Dallas soon, I’ll have to write about that.

I'd pay $25 to get a chunk of the stadium.

The city of Irving is charging $25 a carload to watch the implosion of Texas Stadium..

but..I have it on good authority that Eagles..Redskins and Giants fans are getting front row seats for free..

DaveDallasfan,

In Peter King's MMQB - Tuesday Edition, he had a write up about Demarious Thomas that is VERY interesting. I'll give you the cliff notes. Thomas's grandmother was a cocaine trafficer, the mother helped and both are in jail.

Thomas bounced around from family member to family member until we wound up with his uncle for 3 years. The uncle is a preacher and helped put Thomas on the right path.

We all know Thomas has a broken foot, but he is working literally 24 hours a day to get it healthy enough so he can confirm his 40 time for NFL scouts. In mock drafts, he's going anywhere from the top of the first round to the late 2nd round, though I don't really trust anyone who engages in mocks.

The problem with drafting at #27 is that we could literally get anyone. Tate could fall that far, Campbell could fall to us or be a top 10 pick because of his potential. I know we won't get Suh and that is really about all that I am confident of right now.

i still like cody DT/NT from alabama. 6'4" 375 lbs. earl thomas seems small for a safety? mays is another roy l williams. i think we can get quality at safety in the second or third round. the draft is deep for o-line and can be found in the 3rd??? (larry allen, eric williams)??? dez white is interesting. he's big. reminds me of megatron johnson, but that wr from g-tech looks good too, thomas? i think wr would be all right. we stacked the D last year, and some of those kids could still come thru this year. we got qbs, we got rbs, we got tes, o-line does not have to be first round picks. it maybe time for the wr? but i still like the dt spot. that is good money spent.

Can we just not say Roy Williams name here anymore lol. I just hope he comes though this year. Maybe he will since he don't need to be the number 1 receiver. There is just so much wrong with him and Romo's connection. I mean when Romo throws to him its not even in reach. So either Roy is changing his routes up too much or Romo is just using him to get rid of the ball. 45 million to be a decoy to get rid of the ball I hope teams dont catch onto this new secret of ours =)

One quick point of fact about a mock draft, I'm not knowledgable enough about the rest of the league. When I'm writing these articles, Google is my best friend.

I don't think Dez is a bad choice, but WR's are difficult to gauge. It usually takes 2 years for a WR to develop though, so if we project out team out in 2 years, Austin will still be our #1, Dez our #2, and Ogletree would be our slot WR.

Williams will be traded back to the Lions for a 6th round pick, and Crayton will be close to retirement.

Also Jones is saying that the possibility of Greg Ellis returning to Dallas is “not unrealistic.” does this mean T.O. is not unrealistic too. Wait nevermind that would be another Roy droping balls. Would not want that too rub off towards Austin. One receiver droping balls is enough.

I watch the draft on ESPN but listen to Norm on The Ticket..

But quiet..Hardly..

News comes that Dallas is having a private work out for Dez Bryant..Is there something afoot here?

Plus JJ spilled the beans that the team has targeted two free agents..He wouldn't say who but said they had plenty of information on both and were just biding their time..

I love a good mystery..

Ok I remember reading that there was going to be some mock drafts soon but that was like over 2 months ago. So now that I reminded you about that what do you all think about Dez Bryant. I was reading that there is a small chance he could also drop within our reach. One Dallas have not drafted a receiver in the first round since Alvin Harper but they are scheduled to meet Dez Bryant so they must be thinking a little bit about it. I say we draft Earl Thomas or Dez Bryant. One of them could fall far enough for us to trade up. Dez Bryant looks like he could have the hands Roy is suppose to have. Was watching his you tube video and he does good at the jump balls in the end zone. Which could help out with our redzone problem. Anyways it something to talk about =)

I used to like Berman's shtick, when I was 12. Especially recently where he just has a huge chip on his shoulder against the Cowboys. Anyone notice that his right leg is shorter than this left. When they have their stand-up session at the end of the pre-game show, it's really noticeable.

Well, I'm here to put some posts up... so happy reading.

i won't watch espn draft coverage anymore. now that the net has it thats the only place i go. espn can have kiper and todd mcshay.....berman is getting a little tiring too.

I think the NFL draft is a combination of Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Thanksgiving because my wife takes HOURS to prepare to the turkey, and then all of the food is in front of you and the entire dinner takes 15 minutes. 20 hours of prep time buying the stuff, thawing the turkey, stuffing it, cooking it, then preparing all the sides for a 15 minute meal. I'm OK with the draft being 3 days long now. It's like a 40 minute Thanksgiving meal. You could make an analogy about the draft being comparable to the physical act of love... but I'll leave that for someone else.

And Christmas. Weeks of shopping, hours of wrapping, 2 blackened eyes (the other shoppers, not mine), for 15 minutes of unwrapping. But the problem with this is that you can't play with your new radio controlled car until spring. Or let's say you got a toboggon, but there's no snow on the ground. You have to wait.

Worst yet, you're playing with the remote controlled car and it gets crushed by a real car (suffers an ACL injury). So I'm fully in favor of dragging out the draft. Though I think Saturday and Sunday should be involved.

The draft is being turned into a game show..What was wrong with the previous drafts? I loved taking a Saturday and having my lap top and ESPN going for hours and hours..

Now is is all BS..With only one round on Thursday I see them dragging it out for 4 or 5 hours..Plus the pre and post draft analysis where Mel Kiper explains how he missed all his picks..

I'm hoping we get 3 starters out of last years draft. The problem is, where do we put them? Maybe Williams can take over for Bobby Carpenter this year, and then replace Brooking the following year. Beuhler as the full-time kicker, and maybe Brewster at left guard, and while I'm hoping for stuff, Hamlin for Hamlin.

I'm OK with what the skins are doing, if it was after the draft. Fill in the gaps with mediocre free agents after the draft. Doing it before can do no good. What if they find 2 really good running backs in the 3rd and 6th rounds. They will just have to eat the signing bonus given to LJ, and while they can cut both of the vets, it's just wasted money.

I don't think Grossman is a bad pick. He isn't a good QB, but he can play well if there is a solid running game behind him. The year after the Super Bowl run, the Bears didn't resign Thomas Jones, and Benson was just awful with the Bears.

Here's a tangent, should Benson next sign with the Lions... Lions, Bengals, & Bears, oh no.

Is it possible to get worse with each signing lol

Well heres some news the skins are making moves to improve 4-12 record.
Clinton Portis is slowing down so they sign L.J. I guess D. Snyder stumbles across a old fantasy football magazine with L.J on the cover and figured why the hell not. J. Campbell doesn't look like the QB they hopped he be so an easy solution to that is to sign R. Grossman.

Does anyone else find this very funny but at the same time sad?
