I heard from several sources that the Washington Redskins, one of the league’s worst teams in the past decade, plan to dump numerous players tonight. A 7 p.m. press conference is expected.
Although new coach Mike Shanahan has said Clinton Portis will be on the team in 2010, he is one name mentioned that could get kicked to the curb. But he is not the only one who could be out of Skin Country. I’ve heard at least five others players could be released, including Rock Cartwright, Randall El Al or whatever his name is, and a couple of other losers on the team.
This leaves Redskins owner Danny Snyder with very few options: start from scratch and get young, quality players in this draft or go freak-wild in free agency. It seems like Snyder still hasn’t figured out how to make a football team successful. The last two drafts made the Skins appear as the second-calling of the Detroit Lions.
Could the Redskins be ready to offer Julius Peppers $100 million, too?
Do they want Karlos Dansby?
Does it really matter? Snyder should have figured out by now that you don’t build a dynasty through free agency; you build it through the draft and you solidify it through free agency. Considering they don’t even have a quality quarterback, I can hardly believe Shanahan, who is no fool, really believes this team can compete in 2010, let alone 2011.
