Wade Phillips Is Favoring David Buehler For Field Goals

Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips believes that kicker David Buehler can be a reliable field goal kicker.

Does this concern anyone else other than me?

The Cowboys may draft a field goal kicker late, but there does not seem to be any interest in finding out through the free agent market.

I cannot tell you how important it is to have a solid field goal kicker for a playoff caliber team. Unless Buehler starts belting 50-yard field goals in the preseason, there is absolutely no reason for any coach to hand him the task. He didn’t beat out Nick Folk in a duel before Folk was released. That piece of evidence should be enough to persuade the coaching staff that they need to find someone who is solid and has a record of winning close games.

What worries me even more is Jerry Jones made similar comments to the press before Phillips.

Sure, Buehler did well in the combine last year, and he was huge on kick off for the Cowboys in his rookie year. He does have a strong leg and Fanhouse, maybe jokingly, said he is the world’s strongest kicker.

But where’s the proof he can handle field goals?

Plus Wade has no say so over the kickers..Stick with the defense..

This may be confidence building talk for his sake only. I am sure they are not as confident as their words

i go back to my point......they said the same thing when the AFL brought in soccer players to be kickers. they said it won't happen.....it did and it was forever more. how did it happen? they saw the talent in these soccer players and made them fit the nfl game. well we all know beulher can kick a counrty mile? well if someone teaches him to kick it acurate we maybe in for something special?

We all hope Beuhler can do the job. I just have reservations about how far coaching can take you. Charles Barkley is an awful golfer, and he spent an entire series with Hank Haney to fix his swing. I'm guessing when I see him at the Lake Tahoe celebrity tournament, he's still going to be awful.

Wade believes Ferris can be the field goal kicker..

He believes Roy will be a good receiver..

He thinks there is a Santa Claus..

Don't blame the fans JJ..If given a choice we would have fired his ass..

One would think we could get either Matt Stover or Adam Vinateri... The Colts aren't going to hold onto both of them...

many years ago some bright thinking, way ahead of their time AFL mavericks brought in some foreigners called soccer style kickers. they were in fact, actual soccer players who had no formal training in the sport of american football. they just could kick a ball a country mile. they we're properly trained, and thus changed the game forever. this kid is not ferous buehler, he is a kid that probably has the range to handle 60 yrd fgs on a regular basis. he certainly has shown that with his kickoffs. if he has the proper training on his technique, and works on acuracy???? who knows? did't the cowboys hire boniol to be a kicking coach now? well there ya go. i think it is scary, but definitly worth the gamble if it adds a roster spot for us. i always loved the fact that danny white could hold down 2 spots. we do need that extra spot for o-line or d-line depth.

why risk it? Just sign a solid free agent and feel comfortable that a 45 yard field goal will be made

The guy did not have any training on field goals last offseason. The cowboys believed Folk was that guy so they did not use David in those situations. They are going to concentrate on him doing field goals this off season and see where that goes. I believe he has a strong chance at it once he gets the proper training.
