Cowboys Shutout Eagles 24-0 To Win NFC East

The Dallas Cowboys won the NFC East today with a convincing 24-0 shutout of the high-powered Philadelphia Eagles at Cowboys Stadium today. The Cowboys will face the Eagles for a third time this season next week in the playoffs.

The game was blocked from television on the East Coast, where the Redskins game was televised for fans to see the team lost its 11th game of the season against the Chargers.

The Cowboys defense has shutout two teams in two weeks, an impressive feat for a team coached by Wade Phillips, who may have had one of the worst game-winning speeches I have ever seen. Phillips mumbled through his thanks to the team for playing its heart out. But Wade’s team needs to do more than just make the playoffs; the team needs to win.

I strongly believe that Jerry Jones will not entertain a fourth season with Wade if the Cowboys do not win at least one playoff game. This will not be easy.

The Cowboys will have to beat the Eagles three times this year for that to happen. Not only is it rare for a team to beat a divisional foe three times in a season, it takes a pretty darn good football team to do it. Part of me wanted the Vikings to lose, too, so that the Cowboys would get that first week bye and the second seed. But the other part said, wait, these teams that are getting these byes are not making it to many Super Bowls lately. A wildcard bid for the Cowboys means no bye, no Mexico and no blond bimbos. The Cowboys have no choice but to stay home, practice and prepare for next week’s game exact the very same opponent they dominated today.

Marion Barber was incredible. It seemed every run was for a first down. And Felix Jones dash at the end was icing on the cake, wasn’t it? One thing you have to congratulate the coaching staff for is how they rested Felix, and didn’t over-use Tarshard Choice. I think that losing Felix last season put a huge dent in the Cowboys offense. This year, everyone is going into the playoffs with a majority of their health intact.

We know that was not the real Eagles today. At least I know. I can’t say I am positive the Cowboys can continue to roll like this, let alone the defense continue to post shutouts, God forbid.

But for right now, let’s celebrate. The Dallas Cowboys are division champions.

How about them Cowboys?

I went out and found it at the third sports bar I tried. The place was packed with Eagles, Redskins and Cowboys fans because our game was on at the same time as the Skins' game. Plus, all the people from the afternoon's first set of games stuck around. It was a bad mix of people and things could've gone very, very wrong considering how the games went. I had some chili dogs in the fourth quarter. For some reason, they tasted better.

It's obvious that we lit a fire under Philly with this shutout. I hope that we have enough to win this next game. Phillips should have to win a game in the playoffs before Jerry picks up the fourth year of his contract. If he makes a nice little run in the playoffs, I could see Jerry giving Wade a new deal for a few years. We'll see what happens. I hope Wade does make a nice playoff run and we hang on to him.

Thanks Chris, glad you pointed it out.

That was the first thing I thought when I read that little remark. It's only rare for a team to beat a team three times because teams don't often meet three times. The way you wrote it, however, implies that it is not in the winning teams' favor... I think the numbers are 9 of 13 times teams meet 3 times, the two-time winner becomes a three-time winner.

Cowboys did blow it against the NYG but the odds still favor us, which may disappoint those of you who insist on all things bad pointing towards the Cowboys.

And who cares Wade gave a poor post-game speech. You must have voted for Obama. Speeches don't matter -- DOING does. And he's been doing all year long.

So tired of all the people out there saying the Cowboys still haven't done anything. For you all, the only big games are the games the Cowboys lose. Ridiculous.

Also in response to "an impressive feat for a team coached by Wade Phillips" ... That'd be an impressive feat for any cowboys team coached by any cowboys coach... given the fact it's never been accomplished by either of the aforementioned.

Great game I know it is hard to beat a team three times in one season, but the way this defense is playing I don't see anyone who can beat us. Yea we lost to the Giants and Chargers , but our offense and Garrett were not clicking the way they are now. This team is doing everything right and the coaching is doing an awesome job. I don't know what made Garrett get his head in the game but I'm glad he did. I mean he is running the ball at the begining. He is running on 2nd and 3rd downs. He is moving Austin around and is even running some play action. The only thing negative is Roy which I know it might be a bad idea being near the playoffs now, but I kinda wish they would put crayton at second reciever and olgtree and hurd switch 3rd receiver slot. I just think this team needs someone who can get a pass a game atleast. Olgtree is our backup receiver and he is doing way more than Roy. I don't know I think his time is running out though.

Couple of things Hat..How much harder would the game have been if we lose and go on the road next week? and is your problem with Wade his coaching or he is not a stand up comedian like Parcells?

I have heard from so many today..complaining about not having the game available..Any one heard of a Sports Bar?..I can't believe you stayed home on such a momentous game..Not gonna happen to this fan..

Jason Garret has sure called a excellent offensive game,Romo executed, the Line Blocked, the Backs ran with pride, the ends made their exact routes, and for the explosive Dooms Day Defense was supurbe,,,,most inportant the kicker did not allow then to retrieve anything.
Roy Williams will need to step up during the play offs to keep up with this exciting time to be a Dallas Cowboys,,, enjoy the ride and hold your head high for you are from TEXAS,,,

congrats cowboys! Well deserved but I didn't think you had that in you. Let's make it a run thru Jan. and the first week Feb. Very possible we could get more then one home game if things roll correctly.

"The Cowboys will have to beat the Eagles three times this year for that to happen. Not only is it rare for a team to beat a divisional foe three times in a season, it takes a pretty darn good football team to do it."

Divisional teams have met 18 times and a 3-peat has happened 11 of those times. So it might be "rare" but it's certainly in the regular season winner's favor. The Cowboys have blown it twice though, to Arizona and NY. I'm an Eagles fan, but I didn't see anything last night that would convince me that Reid or McNabb (0-4 against playoff teams this year) will bring anything new to the table next week. But for us it has been one of those strange years where nothing really makes sense but we came out pretty strong.

pretty good game, the boys played today... but this is definitely not the playoff eagles, and I hope we won't get under the impression that we will be facing the same team again. It was a Philly team that wanted to win, but be reserved at the same time. On another note, a shutout sounds really good, and reading all the comments at NFL about Cowboys having Romo or One and Done crap is getting me all amped up!!!

What a win cowboys!! The whole team played lights out and D-Jack was invisible. The Eagles will be hanging out in the dust pan this week only to come out Sunday and be swept right back in.

Nice, Brad.

I was unable to get the game here. No Directv can be used at this apt because of the trees. I had to radio it.

Octo: I do not think I sounded depressed. I think I was being honest. The truth is: This is not going to be an easy game.

Not to make everyone jelly jell but I was at the game today. What an amazing win I have been to alot of games but that was unbelievable. This team showed so much heart the atmosphere was crazy and next week better be louder. Now to everyone that talked about drafting Tebow or getting rid of Romo my guess is you are all huge Romo fans today. Whats up Dave we know who they are......yeeeaaahhh bbboooyyyy oh yea what was up with Jason Garret throwing the ball up by 24 with 6 minutes left he almost got Romo killed

Come on Landry. We just owned the Eagles and you seem depressed. Look when the Boys get off to a fast start lately there is no looking back. I can't wait till next week when all this no playoff wins since 96 talk can be buried. This team is different, we have small issues. One issue is Roy but is it really an issue? Give Roy his starts whatever, just keep putting Crayton,Olgletree in. I don't know about yall but I'm feelin' like a kid before christmas! GO BOYS.
