The Dallas Cowboys (9-5) played spirited football for all four quarters and defeated the New Orleans Saints (13-1) by the score of 24-17 last night.
The Cowboys made the Saints look defeatable. DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer were the difference makers on defense, constantly pressuring Drew Brees, who only threw one touchdown.
The victory almost eluded the Cowboys, when the embattled field goal kicker Nick Folk missed from 23 yards out, keeping the Cowboys lead at 7 points. The biggest question going into the Redskins game is who is going to kick field goals for the Dallas Cowboys? Nick Folk could be released this week.
After the field goal miss, Brees had a new opportunity to tie the game. In a frantic fourth down play he completed a pass to Marcus Colston and the Saints reached the Cowboys side of the field with about a minute left on the clock. But that’s when the defense held strong, and Ware came through with strip on Brees. Jay Ratliff fell on the ball, and the Cowboys kept their season alive.
Next up for the Cowboys are the Washington Redskins. The Skins play the Giants on Monday night.
