Nick Folk: The Rise And Fall Of A Dallas Cowboys Kicker

Dallas Cowboys field goal kicker Nick Folk looked so promising after the Cowboys endured a decade without a reliable guy at the position who made the 40-plus yarders.

Something has gone horribly wrong, and he’s pretty much costing the team a trip to the playoffs. Folk, who has missed a total of nine field goals on the season, missed his fifth in five games–a 42 yarder. His percentage of field goals made is barely dangling in the 60-percent range.

What has gone wrong? Is it the new stadium, something with the lighting or the design or the 60 yard high definition television hanging above him?

Your guess is as good as mine, but somehow Nick Folk has decided to suck now. He’s missed six of his last eight darn field goals.

Jerry Jones is not happy. The team decided to change holders for Folk. They brought back Tony Romo, which of course stirred the media pot of football blunders when Tony Romo fumbled a field goal attempt that resulted in a Seattle Seahawks playoff win. Jones said today that the Romo experiment showed that Folk’s misses are not because of the holder.

He’s just missing these chip shots.

One paper reports that David Buehler, the punter, may take over field goals.

There is even talk that Folk could be released.

Do you mean that Folk still has a job?  Odds are he won't be the kicker for the Cowboys after Monday morning.

Elam is old and has been worse than folk this year..Id rather stick with folk and see if he could return to form which I think he can...

Elam can kick a 40 yarder..Seems like an option..Folk isn't

Jason Elam is out there... Maybe he's looking to redeem.

Billy Cuntiff got picked up, but I don't want him back here at all.

Kickers are weird..One day they just lose it..Always have another one in the wings..
Seems another thing this team can't do..

the team should have put the kicking job up for grabs after the surgery. Good for competition and the kicker to win his position after a surgery with confidence. Like all the players that aren't playing with a winners drive.  Do the Cowboys currently ever bench someone for poor play? NO! A good example is NASCAR. Most, that win a championship don't put themselves in that position again because of the drive and potentially fatal drive to be on the edge to win a series. They become mid packers. A big contract is in play here for the boys. Look at those that are under contract and those fighting for one. Much more agressive and determined. If the coaching can't get the drive out of the players to play up to or better then their potential coaching must have a change.....We have been looking for leaders in coaching and players. Look at the determined attitude of the Chargers QB last week. Do we see that out of our leaders? NO! Going no place fast.

I doubt it's the new stadium, something with the lighting or the design, or the 60 yard high definition television hanging above him... I think the first thing that should be mentioned is what everyone above me is saying.

His hip surgery.

He may never be the same again, sucks.

coming back from surgery within the same year to kick in this kind of pressure would be very difficult. He surely lost some confidence from surgery and the coaching should have seen this coming or they are not putting pressure on him in practice situations to see it.

If we had a real coach and general manager the kicker would have been put on IR or axed a while ago. Team no heart to win the big one and it comes from the top.

So Jerry, spending so much time as you have said in the media on your new pallace while you never did very well as a general mgr. PLease fire yourself and get some one in here. I was hear before your time Jerry and your really getting old with 15 years of no playoffs. something has to change and it must be the top first. It aint working and the only one laughing is non cowboy fans, Tuna and Jimmy. Oh, maybe the 3 ring guys from the Jimmy days. mid pack drafting is hear to stay and so is almost playoff teams till something changes.......

We have to make some type of change.  I dont care what it is.  Folk is pissing me off.

It seems to me Folk is not completely recovered from his off season Hip surgery or maybe he came back too soon. (who knows?) I'd say lets see what Buehler does. He made 26 of 33 FG's in college (78.8%) Thats much better than Folk right now. Things cant get any worse.

Buehler is a kickoff specialist; Mcbriar is the punter. I say give Buehler a shot can't be worse than Folk lately and he gives an extra 10 yards of range.
