Jerry Jones And The Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao Fight

by Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones‘ $25 million offer to host the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight at his glitzy Cowboys Stadium is exactly why he should not be involved in the day to day on-the-field decisions of his football team.

Like Tony Romo’s infamous trip to Mexico, Jones’ carrot to the boxing gods is just another distraction for the football team.

Does it really matter where the fight is going to be? The average man, woman and child won’t be able to afford a ticket or the pay per view. If the St. Louis Rams were trying to get the fight would it be front-page news on ESPN.com?

In case anyone did not realize it, the Cowboys play a very good San Diego Chargers team in a must-win if the Cowboys want to hold onto the NFC East lead.

Well, I just read the article that states that Mark Cuban was willing to do anything to get the fight here,  they never revealed Jones' initial offering I think, but some people bet it was 18 million.  The only thing that is keeping it from being in Dallas though, is probably Floyd Mayweather Jr.,  and Golden Boy has to do everything by PBF so it'll be up in the air, but it deserves a grand stage.

Wow I didn't know this, thanks man.

What was the original offer? Gotta figure Jerry will offer the most, because he stands to make the most.

What's Cuban offering to do?

Thanks for the updates =)

KD,
No, Jerry Jones countered that, and offered 25 million to host the fight...  I've been keeping up.  It may not be front runner, and I don't think it was frontrunner to begin with, but it's still in the running, and even Mark Cuban offered help to host it here

Hiya - I stumbled on this website by mistake. I was looking in Yahoo for Registry software that I had already purchased when I came upon your site, I have to say your site is really cool I just love the theme, its amazing!. I don't have the time today to fully read your entire site but I bookmarked it and also signed up for your RSS feeds. I'll back in a day or two. thanks for a nice site.

Did anyone read what I said?

Fight's not coming here.

Cowboys Stadium went from being a front-runner to being completely dropped out of the race.

Reports say that the PR people for the fight canceled their trip to come see the venue and said they'd pursue other options. Too bad... Had hoped we'd get it.

Yeah, what's the problem with having a Mega fight here in Dallas,  I happen to be filipino, and been watching Manny Pacquiao since 2000's.  If the fight were held in Dallas, it's a one in a lifetime experience basically.  I think you should quit worrying about Jerry Jones's business's and relate your articles to the Cowboys.  It's not like Jone's coaches them, so why would it bother the team?

Come spend it, DSP. and if you can lend me some coin, paypal it to [email protected]

Thanks

im comin to dallas from australia if ya get it , so theres one tourist lookin to spend coin in the local economy

I agree that PPV costs are outrageous and they have been for awhile now.  But, excluding ringside and other celebrity seats, are ticket prices really that high?  I really don't know I just remember being surprised in Vegas a few years ago at how cheap they were...  But this fight is different, unlike the regular big bouts boxing sees every 2 to 3 years; the Pacquiao/Mayweather fight IS a 'mega-fight', and despite extra seating being provided just for this fight, it will fill up in Vegas and sell out.  Of course that's why venue was ever an issue to begin with because Las Vegas/MGM/or whatever arena does not have the seating capacity to accomodate the anticipated number of spectators for this event.   With that being said, I disagree that tickets would be unattainable to us common folk if the fight were held in Dallas.  It's true these tickets will be in higher demand, probably more so than for any other fight ever, and so the ticket prices will also be higher.  But this will be true no matter where the fight is held.  However, the larger the venue the more tickets there are to sell.  The cowboys stadium has over 100,00 seats and the more seats that are available the cheaper the tickets will be.   Don't get me wrong, I'm anything but a Jerry Jones or Dallas fan, but I gotta give them props for trying, and I think they should have tried and should keep trying for the most important reason of all - this is a mega-fight that will draw in numbers (of all kind), it will be in the spotlight on the world stage and will do wonderful things for the local economy in the community where the fight is held.

Pacquiao Bumaye!!

I want this fight so bad, but like the article says "The average man, woman and child won’t be able to afford a ticket or the pay per view". I just dished out the $54.95 to watch Manny and Miguel. I can't dish that out again, and I believe HBO is going to be very very greedy and ask even more for this fight. It's a shame, because I believe that they can get alot more buys if the cost is lower.
Alot of people say that boxing is dying, and that this fight is just what boxing needs to get picked back up. Well HBO, pick it
back up, make the PPV affordable. I only subscribe to HBO for the boxing, I'll hang on to it for a while, but if this fight is too expensive, I not only won't watch it, I'll cancel HBO period.

They're not even front-runners to host the event anymore.... It's not going to happen. News broke Thursday the PR people just decided not to even come scout the location.

And is Nick Folk cut yet? WTF?!?!

Correct! Like Al Davis, Jerry Jones IS the problem in this franchise. Sproles will have a huge day on the nice new field turf:
Chargers 34, Cowboys 31
