Dallas Cowboys Rally In Support of Coach Wade Phillips

Posted by: thelandryhat

Several players on the 8-4 Dallas Cowboys have publicly defended the three-year coach Wade Phillips, including the two leaders on the Cowboys defense.

Free agent steal Keith Brooking said he has the utmost respect for Coach Wade Phillips.

I’ll go to fight for that man until I hang my cleats up and I’m done playing football, because I have the utmost respect for him,” linebacker Keith Brooking said during the taping of his weekly television show Tuesday night. “Everything I’ve seen from my teammates and everything I’ve heard, they feel the same way. Bottom line.”

Phillips continues to sustain the battering ram from the press, who constantly question his coaching style, play calling and command over this talented Cowboys team.

Not only did Brookings speak up to quell the media onslaught, but so did DeMarcus Ware, arguably one of the best defensive players in the NFL.

“You’re going to have guys in this locker room that’s pushing for him, playing hard for him and letting everybody know that he’s a great coach.”

Tight end Jason Witten said the media’s perception is not always the accurate picture in the locker room.

“The message that we get sometimes is different than the perception in the media in general. On his end, I don’t think he really worries about that, as long as his team has that understanding. He does a good job of putting it out there and letting us know where it is. He believes in our team. That’s a good thing.”

Only the Saints and Vikings have better records.

Just get it done in the postseason Wade, that’s all you can do with this vicious media and these ridiculous fans.

Really simple..Get in the playoffs and win a game..That will shut up the critics..If not..see ya…

Agree 100% with Bevomav…..In something non-related…Tony Romo is going to hold on field goals again. I’m not thrilled about it but if it will help Nick Folk get his kicking game back on track then why not??

The only way for Wade to keep his job, no matter what the players say, is to win the Super Bowl.  His job security begins this Sunday vs the Chargers. One of his old teams. I am not saying he needs to win out the regular season, but it sure would help. Going into the playoffs on a 3 game winning streak the third seed. He needs to put PRESSURE on this O’line of the Chargers that by the way is one of the leauges worst in pass protection. He needs to step in and realize that it is HIS job on the line and tell JG that , Felix & Choice are the Premier backs and Barber is the closer!

  5. 5. KD Says:

Sorry but he doesn’t have to win the Superbowl to keep his job. He might not even need to win a playoff game. I’m certain he needs to GET TO the playoffs.

Not sure if he’ll have to even win a playoff game. But I really don’t see Jerry firing Wade, especially if there’s a holdout in 2011. Why sign a coach for all this money then pay for a year that there’s a holdout? The main reason I don’t see him firing him is because I like what he’s done as a whole, and I think Jerry does too.

  6. 6. Ron Says:

sorry but only a win in the playoffs keeps the coach. Way too much talent on the past 3 years teams to not have any success in the playoffs. New direction needed if a playoff win is not in the cards for 09 cowboys. On a positive note if we don’t make the playoffs we get a reciever and oTakle in the draft for 2010. New high profile coach and we are in business. Yet to see in 3 years a win over a super bowl type team when needed late in season. Coaching…..

  7. 7. Ron Says:

Please put MB back in his best element. battering ram only at the end of the half and mid 4th qtr. Otherwise sit on the bench and hold that energy for when 3 yards are needed. He has failed in the full time starter roll….

  8. 8. KD Says:

He’s succeeded in a game or two but as a whole, yes… Please put him in the locker room the whole first half and make him watch film of every time he got stuffed.

He’ll come out meaner than Albert Haynesworth over a helmetless Andre Gurode.

And just to clarify, I agree that no playoff win means new coach… But I just don’t think it’ll necessarily happen. Hopefully so. Too bad Jeff Fisher’s not getting fired anymore.

I read an article not too long ago that had Jerry quoted as saying winning a playoff game would help Wade’s chances of staying on after this year. The implication I get from that is Wade needs to win a playoff game to have a chance. For the record  I would hate to have Fisher. That guy is about as overrated as they come. 6 winning seasons out of 15.
