Injuries Plague Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys have officially been struck by the injury bug.
Ken Hamlin is out 2 to 4 weeks.
Marc Colombo could miss the season with a broken foot.
Left corner Mike Jenkins has a bicep injury.
Flozell Adams and Kyle Kosier have ankle injuries.
The offensive line is in bad shape and the Cowboys don’t have kids at back up. Doug Free has is practically a bench veteran. Free may not start against the Washington Redskins, though. Pat McQuistan or Montrae Holland could get in the game.
Marion Barber has an injured thumb that greatly limited his carries Sunday against the Packers. In fact, the Cowboys barely ran the ball.

we can’t do alot about injuries. they come and they go. i thought this year in the draft we went after alot of young guys for depth, and i think we hit on a few. problem is they got hurt early too, so you patch the boat before she sinks? we’ll be ok for now. colombo will be missed though. oh, and one more shot for all you romo bashers…………after i watched the monday nite game…….how would you guys have liked it if we would have taken brady quinn with that pick we traded away a few years back? i believe we took spencer with the trade move? who did play well against GB. and whoah……so did bobby carpenter. again i will say……..patience
November 17th, 2009 at 4:01 pmWade in his press conference seemed to indicate if they move Davis to RTackle then Holland or McQuiston are options..If they don’t move Davis then Free will start at RTackle..
With the Cowboys not facing but one more 3/4 defense this season, I expect the offense to play better..
BTW..Cowboys defense ..number one scoring defense in the NFC..
November 17th, 2009 at 4:26 pmI still don’t cound on Carpenter too much he lets a big play go by him sometimes. As for Spencer he had a good game and did great against the run.
November 17th, 2009 at 6:18 pmSorry meant count
November 17th, 2009 at 6:18 pmwell a couple of weeks back when everyone seemed to be bashin on spencer i just had to back him cause i knew he’d start to come around. ware, rat, spears, and brooking are the best role models for these young guys and it will just take time to learn from them. the more spencer and carp are in there the better they will be. these are the guys that the word patience was meant for.
November 18th, 2009 at 1:04 amPeople weren’t really ragging on Spencer, just that he wasn’t getting sacks. His pressure on the QB though, is improving each week. He player extremely well.
And how can you say Carpenter had a good game? I mean he gets to the QB every now and then but he can’t pick up a screen even when he’s in coverage on that side and he tagged a player instead of tackling him… He’s pretty terrible. If he’d renegotiate his contract, I’d like the guy. But for what he gets paid I just want more.
Also it’s a broken leg for Colombo isn’t it? I heard he may come back after 6 weeks…
Good observation about only 1 more 3-4 defense… Thing that baffles me is we should be best against a 3-4… Our offense sees it every damn day!
November 18th, 2009 at 2:54 amkd, the impression i got is that “they” we’re really on spencer about his play. some to the point of even calling for butler to start over him? that is the kind of talk that just drives me batty. spencer just took the job full time, not even had it a full year yet, and my point has always been that a player grows into the position. we gotta have patience with them. carpenter is only a few years into his career as well. granted he’s not seeming to come along as fast as we’d all like, but the same could be said of him. he has yet to be given a position to define him yet. he’s been moved around inside-outside-special teams-situational passing downs? my opinion is that if you bounce a rookie around like that they don’t get comfortable with one position, but rather get overloaded with all of them. butler is a great example of how we should bring along a young guy. find a home fo him and let him hone in on it? thats why i like the way carpenter seems to be coming along better this year. yeah, he’s gonna still make some mistakes, but it’s almost like he’s still a rookie at the position he’s got now.????we have seen a few good things from him in each game, and thats a start. he was a good player at ohio state. maybe it was that he was surounded by other good talent? but he will jell here in time. just my opinion.
November 18th, 2009 at 10:41 amCan anyone tell me why we stopped running the ball? only 11 runs? really??
November 18th, 2009 at 12:10 pmyeah, go figure? we had better run the ball this week. we are entering that time of the year where weather starts to be a factor and a run game is a must. plus it gives your D a chance for a few breaths as they get wore down after a long year. we have to this week. washington is #1 D against the pass?????? even after brandon marshall played catch on them????? seriously i heard this???? i’m looking for the stat line on it cause i frickin can’t believe it. i heard their run D is ranked 24th.???? anyone???
November 18th, 2009 at 12:33 pmNumber 9,
Everyone around the league knows that JG loves to throw the ball more than run the ball…Thats his mantra and he rarely changes it..Wade does not repeat not have the authority to tell him to do things differently…The fact is we have the talent to be one of the top rushing teams in the league and were were up until about 4 games ago…His abandoning the run has cost us two games..Here is a stat straight from ESPN..The Boys are 1-16 this decade when we do not run the ball at least 20 times..1-16…I knew it was bad but I did not think it was that bad…JG has cost us 2 games this year by abandoning the run.Obviously the packers game is one but he also cost us the Giants game as well..We ran the ball that game 29 times for like 251 yards with an 8.6 yard per carry with 3 td’s…Then if we all remember this ply..
1st and 10 at NYG 46
T.Romo pass deep right intended for S.Hurd INTERCEPTED by K.Phillips at NYG 5. K.Phillips to NYG 27 for 22 yards (D.Anderson).
we were up 24-20 driving in their territory dominating them with the run when we needlesly threw that pass….WTF why would JG want to take the chance of a pick, or incomplete pass to stop the clock and give the Gmen more time to work with…Just plain piss poor coaching…..But great coaching by the Gmen who had their safeties playing back off the ball about 20 yards because JG is so predictable as many has said. So Phillips the S was there to make the pick…..Nice job boy wonder…The boys should be 8 and 1….
November 18th, 2009 at 1:15 pmHey David about 3 weeks ago on ESPN radio one of the guys made a good point. He said that sometimes its like Garrett is playing Madden football. Wanting throw the ball every play instead of running. We need to let the backs loose the rest of the year. Maybe let Choice get in more since he did good late in the year last year. I’m not talking about just the wildcat either that is going to get predicatble sooner or later.
November 18th, 2009 at 3:07 pmI am expecting the Redskins to be dominated by the Boys this week. That loss last week was embarrasing and I am sure they are coming out mean this week.
November 18th, 2009 at 3:12 pmTEXAS,
November 18th, 2009 at 3:23 pmI hope your right..But ill have to be honest with you…I truly believe that Jones shoudl be teh featured back if he is 100%healthy…He is the most dangerous back to take it to the house everytime he touches the ball…And I know a lot of people complain about the injuries and think he cant run inside but thats b.s. He never had an injury history at Arkansas and showed on his first carry in the nfl last year an 8 yard td right up the gut and bowled of defenders to score….If he is healthy then ride him…You cant worry about injuries they are apart of the game…Play your best players and go for broke…
yeah, man are you guys dead on! i agree 10 fold. i think felix and barber are both nicked up and are’nt 100%, that might be the reason for bad running, but for pete’s sake choice is ok to go? if garrett would at least hand the ball to him say 10 -15 times a game to attempt a assemblence of a running game then the playaction would be huge for us? no-one respects our run CAUSE WE DON”T!!!!!!!!!!! and what’s your guys’ opinion of this wild cat shit? snap it to the back and he runs? we did that shit on the playground behind our old shed when we were kids ???? get romo’s ass in there and let him take the snaps….and then let him hand it off, with the option to pass….but please run the damn thing once in a while.
November 18th, 2009 at 3:43 pmdon’t know what your guys opinion of joe thiesman is but i did hear him say this the other nite of the nfl network. great point! he said, “as much as i always liked to pass the ball, i knew just how important john riggins was to our success as a team. the first thing we had on our mind as an offense was to gain control of the game as quickly as possible. weather we aired it out and scored fast, we still at some point had to come back to the ground game to get that control. that was the importance of our line and riggo. well the dallas cowboys have that kind of line and they have that kind of back in marion barber. it’s funny how the cowboys don’t realize it?” that was frickin joe thiesman saying that. as afar as i’m concerned, i wish he was our O-cord……DAMNIT.
November 18th, 2009 at 3:59 pmDave,
I honestly like the wild cat or Razorback for us as a change of look to our normal O. We scored on it against Philly and if you noticed in the game after they ran it I think for the 4th time they zoomed in on the DC of Philly and your could read his lips saying thats the 4th time they have run it like he was shocked and not expecting it.I think if they use it like that they are good but definately not as a feature part of the offense….
November 18th, 2009 at 4:01 pmthats our problem we don’t control ball games because we don’t run with the power we have.
November 18th, 2009 at 4:04 pmDave I totally agree with Joe..Hell even Dom Capers the packers DC was saying how easy it was to just tee off on Romo because we became one dimentional and abandoned the run…
November 18th, 2009 at 4:04 pmDave,
I totally agree with you..Read my post above addressed to number 9 and the reference to the giants game…
November 18th, 2009 at 4:05 pmdavid, ok so we use the razor a few times a game? but like thiesman said…..we have leonard davis bigger and stronger then joe jacoby was…..we have the barbarian bigger and faster then riggens was…..we just don’t have the same offensive mind at work like those skins teams did. it showed when they kicked the shit out of us in the 80’s. we all remember those nite mare years? now we have that same build and we got an idiot behind the wheel passing us into another misserable gameplan. sorry for the vent. i’m just so pissed at garrett already.
November 18th, 2009 at 4:13 pmWell generally the reason behind running it is you throw an extra lineman to one side and go with an unbalanced over loaded line..Then instead of hitting an assigned hole the back can just read his blocks and hit any hole he sees…Like I said I dont want to feature it as our offense or even run it 10 times a game but I do think it can have a purpose…I use it on occasion as well when I coach on my high school team..
November 18th, 2009 at 4:17 pmI don’t mind the wildcat, but you have to admit everytime Choice has been back there you know he most likely is just going to run it. I understand the extra blocker I just feel like sooner or later they will stack the line more for the run then. Maybe if I see Choice do a reverse to Felix or Austin that would change it up a bit. Even Crayton on a reverse then a pass from him I just don’t like how Choice is taking the snap then running right away it could become predictable thats all I’m saying.
November 18th, 2009 at 4:27 pmHas anyone read on the Dallas Morning News blog on what Garrett has said. He is starting to sound like an idiot. Basically with the outcome they were force to throw more towards the end. It was’nt until the middle of the third quarter when he got behind. What about the rest of the game?
November 18th, 2009 at 4:31 pmTEXAS,
November 18th, 2009 at 4:32 pmI would think eventualy down the road we will see Choice throw out of the Razorback if he continues to run it…They also maybe using him there just to get him some touches…I dont really understand JG logic at all when it comes to who runs the ball when…I dont think hi rb’s do either…..
TEXAS,
November 18th, 2009 at 4:36 pmThey could have still ran the ball in when Romo got picked and still had time to score twice providing the defense held..It would have been 17-7 with like 6:30 minutes left….but no he called for a pass to witten when he has a pro bowl corner covering him..Good call there…
well i do see the advantage of the extra lineman, but do they take romo out for that or do they line him out wide? which would defeat the purpose? just not that high on it i guess in my own thoughts. but if it works i’m good…….i just know that the power run would work and it hurts to know that it comes from thiesman who critisizes us for it.
November 18th, 2009 at 4:42 pmi guess the bottom line between us all is we know that garrett is screwing it up. hopefully someone that has the power to change that takes the needed steps to make some changes. we all seem to know what that is.
November 18th, 2009 at 4:46 pmThe run wasn’t working guys… Outside of the first rush attempt of the game (13 yards) and the wildcat we weren’t getting anywhere with it. I agree you can’t just give up because they stop you… what… like 4 times? But still he just wasn’t confident we could run…
Nevermind I give up, there’s no use defending him, you just can’t.. He screwed up, hopefully he fixes it. I can’t see justifying abandoning the run like that. It was even for a short while at like 13 rushes and 14 pass plays but he uses any excuse he can to abandon the run.
“Uh-oh they just scored 3. Let’s get in the locker room and discuss how we need to pass pass pass pass.”
I can no longer defend Garrett… I can’t defend Roy…
For heaven’s sake these guys need to start defending themselves…
November 18th, 2009 at 5:24 pmThe question is will it be Jerry or Wade to talk to the assistant head coach about his game plan? Wow just to think Garrett came close to being our head coach.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:25 pmKD,
The part that I hate the most is he abandoned it when it was working in the Giants game and it cost us the game…Its ridiculous…
November 18th, 2009 at 5:31 pmI can understand if that was the case after 15 carries of less than 4 yard or something. It just was not like that Barber came out good then Felix came out (on a recently injured and braced leg) and did not do so great. Barber did not even really getting any more chances. I forget the number I believe it was like 11 carries between 3 running backs. Your right KD you just can’t defend Garrett on a stat like that.
November 18th, 2009 at 5:33 pmHere is a stat that says it all..The Boys are 1-16 this decade when they run the ball less than 20 times….1-16…..
November 18th, 2009 at 5:35 pmkd, you are right. the run was’nt working….the way the cowboys are appling it to our offense. yes both of our top backs are gimp. but if the run is’nt working garret must find away to make it work. when you have a line that averages over 326 lbs. with 3 pro-bowlers on it, i think joe thiesman is right. you just start jammin in down someones throat STRAIGHT AHEAD. forget about all the gagget shit. the draws the misdirections. you just give it to barber and follow the 370lbs leonard davis that has to be good for 5 yards a carry? and david….that is it. you are it. that tells it all. that means that we will not win with garrett and the way he play calls games now. i said this before. it ain’t romo. it ain’t roy droppin a pass or 2. i ain’t witten covered by a probowl corner. IT’S GARRETT. 1-16 PROVES IT.
November 18th, 2009 at 6:10 pmMaybe Jerry will get that through his by next year.
November 18th, 2009 at 7:08 pmI hope Garrett runs the ball down their throats so we can set up the pass. Thats the only way we win this game. Last December TC proved he could carry the rock especially against top ranked D’s. To make matters even worse the O-line was more banged up last year than it is this year so to me unless the Lameskins completely shut down our running game there is no excuse for not running the ball.
November 19th, 2009 at 10:33 amOhhh and Im calling for Tashard Choice to get at least 10 carries this game.
November 19th, 2009 at 10:35 amNo Haynesworth is huge today. We’ve handled him before, but it’s still a bonus to have him out today.
