ESPN, Media Slant Tony Romo/Roy Williams Reports

AUTHOR: thelandryhat | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 18 Comments |

Dig deep into my archives and you will find numerous posts that bash the mainstream media and ESPN for slanting stories about the Dallas Cowboys.

Case in point.

First off, I like how Tony Romo responded to the media trap with sharpness. He’s had three awesome games in a row and he seems to be taking the leadership role by the horns. His response to the Roy Williams media firestorm has been perfect.

ESPN and their lackeys at Dallas Morning-News have been bombarding Romo with questions about his relationship with wide receiver Roy Williams after Williams made a few comments that were completely slanted by ESPN into a story very similar to the Terrell Owens saga the network ignited last year.
Williams basically said that he is really not sure why he hasn’t connected with Tony Romo. He admits that he is getting a lot of passes thrown his direction, but that Romo doesn’t seem to be as accurate when throwing to him.

Roy Williams is not Terrell Owens in the locker room. Roy Williams is not a threat in the Dallas Cowboys locker room.

The media is.

Williams had to correct the media sensational headlines “Roy Williams Not Happy With Romo?” with emphasis on the fact that he is not a locker room cancer. Even as they report the following quote, ESPN compares Williams comments to Owens:

“I didn’t complain,” Williams said. “I didn’t complain that I didn’t get the ball. I got seven opportunities in [last Sunday's win over Seattle]. All I said was that, when it comes to me, it’s not there. The percentages … back my case. I’m not saying it can’t be fixed because that’s what we do every day. We try to work on it and get it fixed.

“I’m not a T.O. [Terrell Owens] or I’m not trying to be a T.O. I don’t know why people are trying to put me in that category because I’m happy to win. I’ve said that 100 times.”

I dont even think there is any problems between them two. Even towards the end of the Seahawk game they are both talking and trying to get on the same page. Most likely what happened is that Roy said it not in a bad way and the media put a small twist on it. Why do we even bother with these reports anymore. Is it just me or is the media really bored this year with out T.O.. When he left they decided to talk about our losses and that our team is falling apart with out T.O.. Now we are winning and found a new receiver and they want to make Roy look like a bad guy. Bunch of made up drama I am just glad Romo and Roy don’t let this bother them and focus in on what matters most and that is this sunday.

  2. well thats just the media. they have made the cowboys out to be a “as the world turns” soap opera and when there’s no soap news, they have to create something. sad situation, but i think most knowledgeable fans know this. for me it’s all about what happens on the field. and it will.

  3. Colorblind says:

I agree that its a non-issue…. for now.

Anthony Spencer sure has been making some plays lately huh?

  4. bevomav says:

Notice how they didn’t post about the extra time TR/RW have been putting in after regular practice..This came from Tim MacMahon..Others who were there heard a different story..Roy was stating how he didn’t know why they aren’t connecting..He wasn’t blaming anyone..himself or Romo..

  5. T.E.X.A.S says:

Don’t reporters carry recorders  so they get it word for word. So far all I have seen on this situation is what the reporter said he heard. Why have I not heard it on a recorder or on a camera? Sounds like a bunch of bull.

  6. KD says:

I’ve heard it word for word… Listen to a lot of sports radio though. Depends on who you listen to as to how Roy is portrayed.

Sure is nice to see a change of scenery on this blog though. All the Cowboy bashing, Roy bashing, negativity seems to have drifted away… At least from TLH… Some of you posters are still asses but most of you rushed back to reclaim your seat on the bandwagon.

  7. thelandryhat says:

KD, I think I call it like it is. I am not some guy running a homer Dallas Cowboys blog. It was obvious to me that the media was over hyping and stretching the Roy Williams/Tony Romo stuff. No doubt.

But it’s also very clear that as of right now, the Roy Williams trade is a flop, and possibly one of the worst in Cowboys history. We’ll see what he’ll do over his full career here before we make a final judgment.

The negativity will return because you are reading the only balanced blog about the Cowboys.

  8. T.E.X.A.S says:

The only negativity I ever see is the truth. Does not make you a non Cowboys fan. Never means that anyone is off the Cowboys bandwagon. You never give up on the Cowboys even though Roy is doing terrible right now we still hope for him to come through every game. Cowboys fans went through the drought of playoff wins and the Campo days as head coach and so on. Landryhat I never have a problem with anything you right you have your opinion and give facts to back them up. Lets all be honest thought any life that this team has got back is due to Austin showing up. Austin has saved this team and has brought a different kind of edge which gives us a good chance of beating Philly.

  9. bevomav says:

Yea..T.E.X.A.S..cept when the hat and MBIII get on Romo..that still gets me..but then I am a Romo appologist…

The RW thingy..If he wasn’t upset he wouldn’t be human and I am sure human nature being what it is..He blames Romo more than he does himself..

I hope he has a breakout game against the Buzzards..

  10. T.E.X.A.S says:

Yea I think we just get a little fustrated when sometimes his balls just end up in crazy places. Sometimes rights to the defender and not the receiver. I am not going to get my hopes up on Romo too much even though he is playing great football and taking care of the ball more than ever. His true test is going to be against Philly they are going to put pressure on him and show different looks to confuse him. If he pulls off a great game against Philly and shows us a different Romo in December I will feel more comfortable with him. Don’t get me wrong though I still will be pulling for him come Sunday night.

  11. KD says:

The only balanced blog? The only one? I’d find that hard to believe IF I thought this was balanced. You jump on and off the bandwagon. I’m a realist, but I also don’t jump to conclusions. If my Cowboys only win 5 games I’ll still love em and support em just with some frustration. If they’re missing pieces I’ll understand that but not say their very fate hinges upon that one piece.

Listen, they win and you’re positive but sometimes negative. They lose and you’re negative. If that’s what makes balance then I’m just completely confused.

But I agree the Roy trade is a flop but it still has some hope to turn around… I mean Miles Austin was sort of a flop… If you can call an undrafted free agent who plays #4 a flop… But we had high hopes and kept hanging on and hanging on and it appeared he may be a stanback with speed but then, low and behold, he turns into the stud we knew we thought we knew we had =) Hopefully Roy breaks out… Isn’t he supposed to be some physical specimen what the hell.

  12. T.E.X.A.S says:

I know I thought I would see Roy like a Larry Fitzgerald fighting for the ball and jumping up for it etc. I dont expect him to be as good as Larry or fast like Miles but come on be physical for the ball.

  13. number_9 says:

How long does it for a QB-to-WR connection to gel? Romo and Williams have had the off season, mini camps, and training camp to get things going so what gives? To me it looks like Williams is a very sloppy route runner and his timing with Romo is off. Am I wrong here??

  14. steamroller78 says:

I think too much pressure has been placed on Roy and it has held him back. If Miles keeps playing like he has, then Roy will be relieved of that and he will be more comfortable. Thus being more productive.

  15. steamroller78 says:

Defense is going to be the difference in this game though. We can’t let Philly put up 40 plus points in a game and expect to win…This year it has to be better than that

  16. TDCowboys says:

I watch NFL Network all day everyday and according to most analysts  the Cowboys are the underdog in this one. It blows my mind because they love to point out that Cowboys have not played any quality teams. The Eagles have played the Saints who they were blown out by, and the Giants which they crushed, so other then the Saints they have played the same opponents. However the Eagles lost to the Raiders which no one seems to point out??? I have been harping for so long how overrated the Giants are and I’ve been right since they have lost to every good opponent they played. They did however beat us by 3 points in a game where we  gave them 5 turnovers. Im not making excuses but  if anything the Eagles should be the underdog in this matchup. We have a very solid team in every aspect of our game and have been steadily improving. Statistically we are ahead in every aspect.

Romo will never get the respect he deserves until “we win a playoff game” which I could care less about unless we win all of them. Sunday night is our chance to prove to everyone we are the team to beat in the NFC East. I strongly believe we will win this game.
