Goodbye, Isaiah Stanback

Posted by: thelandryhat

Isaiah Stanback was finally released by the Dallas Cowboys. Call it unbelievable, but I cannot recall a player given so much time and so many chances to perform.

Stanback wasn’t highly touted out of college. He was selected in the fourth round, after an average career with the Washington Huskies. His speed was attractive. He came to the Cowboys, who wanted to use him as a wide receiver. For three years we saw nothing from the guy. No touchdowns. No kick returns. No acrobatic catches.

For three years we watched Stanback sit the bench with injuries and play poorly in preseason.

With that said, here is the list of players the Cowboys released:

According to DC.com Bright, Chandler, Crosslin, Dixon, Manny J, and Mike Mickens also went on practice squad.

I like our moves, except maybe to keep Steven McGee… But cutting him would REALLY be admitting how poorly we did in the draft. 4 of 12 successfully made the team. Neither of those 4 will probably make a difference. Oh well last year’s draft was so phenomenal we can have 1 or 2 more bad ones just to be fair to the other teams I guess.

    Stanback is a Patriot now.

  3. 3. Staubach Says:

He certainly enticed all with his athletic skills. But often we forget there is more to being an NFL player  than raw skill

  4. 4. Staubach Says:

Steamroller, what are your takes to the upcoming season?

  5. 5. number_9 Says:

Buehler was the draft pick and thats not saying much!!!

Isaiah will finally get the chance to be under a real quarterback and on a team that has the skills to bring out the untapped potential in his game.  Good Luck Isaiah…

QuestioningSports: I’m questioning your sanity, because I’ve seen nothing from Stanback. He was a below average quarterback in college and that was against Pac 10 defenses which, save one or two, aren’t that great.

    Boys fans,
Im sure if the Cowboys thought he had any skill at Qb they would have kept him as a project at that position.  He is still years away from being a possible productive player in the NFL.

    Guys..

First…With that many draft picks there were going to be a lot of players drafted that didn’t make the team..How many openings did you think the Boys had?

Second..There would have been more..but some are out with injuries..That happens..

  10. 10. theMBIIIeffect Says:

Well said, Bevo. A lot of those guys are projects that will take longer than one training camp to develop. It’ll be good to have them on the practice squad.

MBIIIeffect..I read yesterday that last draft was one of the weakest in years..and Goose Goslen of DMN said there were no more than three can’t miss players in the whole draft..

I am hard on JJ..but just maybe he picked a good year to play around..

    Just imagine…RB..no openings..QB..ok got a third..Kicker..got a kickoff guy..WR..one opening..filled by Ogletree..OL..bad year for Olinemen..LB..signed Brookings..big upgrade..DB..signed Sensabaugh..big upgrade..Back up to OLB is the only concern..that and a quality OL backup..

    Go Cowboys..

While we’re on the topic of QBs I got really pissed at Eli Manning’s existence and decided to troll on the Giant’s FSB. Not wanting to go unarmed I dug up the following QB Ratings.

    Romo 94.7
    McNabb 85.9
    Campbell 80.4
    Manning 76.1

Manning, the highest paid QB in the LEAGUE is the worst QB in his division.

Anyways I left a comment on the departure of Tyree, one of many (including Patrick Crayton) Eli can thank for his jewelry. God I hate that guy. At least Trent Dilfer could breathe through his nose.

Don’t forget to include Roy Williams in that draft, Bevo. Was there any receiver in the last draft who could have come in and had the immediate effect that Roy Williams will with our first pick? Percy Harvin might have, but after his massive clear out to improve the locker room, I don’t think Jerry Jones wanted to pick someone with problems. Hakeem Nicks might’ve been a better option, but part of the value that Roy Williams brings that makes him worth that first pick is the familiarity with the league. You can’t look at talent alone in that trade. I do still wish that we had gone with Anquan Boldin, but he had some issues too. We also got some guys that might pan out with some work: Jason Williams could be a monster at inside backer but needs time to make that transition, Stephen McGee has all the skills to succeed as a pro quarterabck but needs time to be groomed and Stephen Hodge is just the kind of player you want as a nickel linebacker. I was fine with the draft. I would like to see a left tackle next year because I’ve had it with Flozell.

KD-While I agree that Eli is a mouth breather, the NFL has a pretty short memory when it comes to quarterbacks. The Giants readily forgot his early years because he won them a ring and had a pretty solid year last year. I’m interested to see what he does this year without Plaxico Burress.

  14. 14. bevomav Says:

    KD..Even with those stats..Sporting News released their top 100 players..Twelve QB’S..no Romo..

They had all the usual suspects..and included Michael Vick..but no Romo..Michael Vick?..Idiots..

One interesting stat..Two of the oldest Olines in the NFL..Dallas and Washington..We know how the Boys finished..but the Skins started 6-2..ended 2-6..Just maybe those old Olines wore down at the end of the year..Just a thought..

  15. 15. KD Says:

I would have liked to fortify our O-Line in the draft, for certain, but I think they’ll do alright this year — I sure hope. It’s what makes the Giants so good, they have, arguably, the best lines in football.

And I’ll contend that Eli didn’t win that Superbowl for the Giants, they just gave him the credit.

Oh well I’m not worried about it I think he’ll implode this year. I just hope he doesn’t get injured or they’ll use that as an excuse for the rest of his days.

What are your guys thoughts on wins this year? I’m predicting a fast start.

  16. 16. bevomav Says:

    Fast start..yes..

    First 7…@Bucs..NYG..Car..@Den..@KC..Atl..Sea….record… 6-1

    Next 5..@Philly@Green Bay..@ NYG..Wash..Oak…record…2-3

    Last 4…SD..@NO..@Wash..Philly………………………record..2-2

    For the season….10-6….Win the division..

  17. 17. KD Says:

That’s actually pretty conservative the way you broke it down. I sure hope so.
