Anquan Boldin Could Be A Dallas Cowboy

by Cowboys

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt told ESPN today that the team will consider offers for No. 2 receiver Anquan Boldin.

Boldin is a receiver who would be the No. 1 guy on 85 percent of NFL teams, and the Cardinals may get a lot of bites for him.

The Dallas Cowboys may be a perfect suitor. Boldin has two years left on his contract with the Cardinals.

For some reason, Boldin wants out of a team that just went to the Super Bowl. He’s not happy in Arizona and it may be because Larry Fitzgerald is the main squeeze over there.

Maybe the Cowboys could trade Roy Williams to the Cardinals for Boldin? Sounds crazy? Not really. Boldin is surely worth the draft picks we lost to get Williams. Or maybe the Cowboys could send Greg Ellis, Miles Austin/Patrick Crayton and a pick or two the Cardinals way for Boldin.

It may be a stretch, knowing the Cowboys top goal is to sign DeMarcus Ware, but do not rule out Jerry Jones for coming up with some fancy-pantzy way to get Boldin.

I do not believe that we NEED to add anything to the offense.  This offense, with the current players on the roster, has the ability to be the top scoring offense in the league.  I am not ready to say that it will be the top offense next season but there is no need to find any more starters.  Depth is a very differet question.  Adding Boldin would certainly help out but why give up the players and/or picks required?  We are going to have to trust Roy at some point.  Obviously some folks much more in the know than us thought he had what it takes.  Give him a chance to prove it to the rest of us.  If he can make the probowl in Detroit, he has the tools to do it here.  Sure in 06 he had one of the weakest schedules in the NFL but he had no running game and an average quarterback to help him get there.  Oh, and as for Boldin being a selfish receiver; that is just nuts.  This is the NFL and he has tried to keep his protests to the offseason and out of the lockerroom.  He played through serious injuries and without complaint.  All the while his numbers should have earned him a big payday.  Whether he comes to Dallas or not he is a class act.

Barber for Boldin is the only trade that even remotely makes sense, but I could see them wanting a high pick this year or next to boot. I don't think it would get done straight up.

Also, I think it is obvious that a lot of people hold a lesser value of Barber after this past season than the year before. If we had been talking of a Barber trade this time last year it would have got cut throat in here. Barber played through a lot of injuries last year as did many players on offense, and I agree with Dave on this one. It really wouldn't make sense to trade for Boldin. You guys hold tight and see what Jerry does next week.  If not Pat White, Patrick Turner from USC. There are some speedy recievers that can be had in the 4th and 5th rounds this year and I would expect our GM will draft a couple to compete for the #6 spot on the roster behind Roy Williams, Patrick Crayton, Miles Austin, Sam Hurd, and Isaiah Stanback. And also, look for Martellus Bennett and Felix Jones to have some receptions as well this year.

yes sir........i agree

Anquan Boldin wants big money. Alot more than the Cowboys can give him.  The last thing we need on this team is another selfish WR. We just got rid of one, why bother adding another one. This Cowboys team has to spread the ball around to keep defenses honest.  I think we have plenty of talent to do just that. We might be able to add someone like Torry Holt.

and yes i do believe that roy is better then burris. thats why the giants let him go. they don't feel his talent is worth any more of the headaches, suspensions, legal aspects, and stigma that he brings. all roy has brought to the table is the potential of a #1 wr. he was in detroit, so i don't see any reason for him not to excell in dallas. despite what an agitated troy aikman may feel. he's got it all and now under the right conditions (the help of a run game) he should come thru

as far as the other trade with ellis, barbie, crayton, and a bag full of broomsticks and bullshit for boldin???? hey do it!!!!! but does anyone think in all reality that arizona WOULD????????

i see the point of trading barber for boldin, but not sure how it will save us cap money? boldin for barber straight up will still be a wash contract wise because of the fact that boldin will only except a deal with a new contract negotiated first. how will this save us money to sign ware? i say to hell with boldin, he's not worth THAT much money anyway. not saying that barber is either for just being a closer, but rbs take a beating in this league and having 3 good ones makes more sence to me than having 2 #1 wrs? i still say early on that witten will be the focus of our passing game, and in the shifting of D coverage packages, roy will find the single coverage. we have to look first to our strengths and utilize them to open up other things. don't you guys think that is how opposing Ds will try to stop us? then thats what you do. flex your muscles that are strongest, then the rest of the package comes in place.  we don't need boldin. it starts first with the run game. this brings the safeties up. then the middle opens up for witten. now the safeties and linebackers have to slide into middle coverage on passing downs, now you have single coverage on the outsides. roy will then be open and austin can stretch the field, crayton can find the crossing seems. then when they think pass, bam you hit them with an inside handoff to felix. see how the offense needs to be a unit. we relied to much on the pass last year and we died by it. steamroller78 said it too. we GOTTA run this year if we are to survive and win.....don't trade a good back for a good wr. not an even trade when you consider the costs, and imput to this year for our offensive direction.

iron man, RW is better than Burress? in what way? not shooting himself? Yeah, I agree. Football wise, he hasn't proven that at all. Maybe he will this year, and I hope he does. But saying he's better than Burress is a bit of a stretch..

guys don't get me wrong.. MBIII is one of my fav. Cowboys.... i don't wnt to get rid of him by any means...

i am just pointing out that trading Choice... who is cheap and barbie who is worthless... and ellis who is old.. gets you nothing... and makes it impossible to sign ware.... MBIII's contract is too steep for a closer.. that is a fact... I would rather keep him than to sign Boldin... BUT if we were def. going to go after Boldin ... this is how i see it going... Financially.

personally i think we will be fine with RW..

Look at it this way... RW is better than Burress... and out 3 headed monster is better than the Giants last year... in all aspects... Our D is a little weaker than theirs was... but our O will make up for that ... because ROMO is better than ELI and WITTEN is just the best tight end in the league... The Giants seemed to fair nicely last year.

please come September....

Glad to hear you come around tripplethreat.  Barber is a fantastic asset to have for the exact reason you listed in your last post.  You can't give up garbage to get gold so no matter what we gave up it would have to be someone or something substantial.  That is why I wouldn't mind seeing Choice a part of a deal like this.  He isn't enough alone but packaged with a pick or two or another player or two might not be that bad because we have two high quality runningbacks without him.  Still doesn't solve the financial problem but glad to hear you sticking up for Barber.  What he does late in games just can't be duplicated by any other back out there currently.  You'd have to go back to Bettis or Lewis to get the sort of punishment he brings.  That is a factor that I don't want to lose.  It is worth more than shows up on any stat sheet.

After thinking about that MBIII for Boldin trade for a bit I decided against it.  We need Barber.  He is our finisher.  Teams hate trying to tackle him.  He punishes Defenses, and our Offense feeds off of his energy.  As much as I want Boldin on our team I wouldnt give up Barber for him.

Ironman, MBIII for Boldin straight up?  Damn that might not be a bad idea.  The Boys would miss MBIII's energy but we would still have 2 other solid RBs.  HMMMMM I dont know if Jerry would make that trade.  That really gets me thinking.

i will say this... if he goes tot he eagles... they become the best team in this NFC Beast... kills me to say it .. but it is true...

Not going to happen... but IF it did... this is how it would and should go down... and i think the Cards would be all over it ..

MBIII for Boldin...straight up!

We lose MBIII contract and resign WARE... We basically got rid of T.O. for a more talented and younger version... that mostly keeps his mouth shut...

hey BOLDIN.. # 81 is vacant... = )

Well, I know it is a little late for this but, thembIIIeffect, He was not the third string runningback against the Steelers and the Ravens.  He was the first and he preformed like one.  You just don't have a flash against those two teams.  They were as good a run defense as this league has ever seen.  He was number three because Barber and Felix got the money.  I am not saying that he would have beaten them out for the starting job if all things were equal but he showed he has the vision and the agility to be successful in this league.  Runningbacks do need some polishing but not usually in how to run.  It is in blitz pickup or reading the defense to correctly decide whether to run a route or which route to run.  Choice has proven that he can run.  But really this is kind of off point.  If we disagree on this it doesn't really change much.  For financial reasons I just don't think this is even being remotely considered by J.J.  but if he is considering this move we have plenty ammo that Arizona would want.  We may not agree on which guys to offer or why to offer one but it seems like we do agree on whether or not to do it.

wow...your team sucks so bad that you had to come here? damn dude..its ok you can still wear your dress and wear your stupid pig nose..hahahahahahha

Cowboys are Mexico's team. Long Live the Redskins!

We need a WR who can strech the field (sorta like Alvin Harper used to do back in the day) Im not totally sold on Miles Austin yet but I think he does have potential to do big things. Im also hoping that Roy Williams will be become a true #1 WR with a full training camp under his belt.

He's coming of a foot injury man, that's the ONLY excuse I have for him and since that's gone -- he better produce. The Eagles would be worse with him than the Giants simply because we're used to, in the recent years, the Giants having a legitimate threat at wideout, while the Eagles would have Desean Jackson AND AnQ? Then Westbrook in the slot... That might be too much.

This is actually starting to worry me. If the Giants or Eagles try to get ahold of him we might be in trouble. Roy Williams hasnt extactly proven to be a threat yet lets hope he does alot better this year.

Yeah I was suggesting trade him and lose his contract all together... Boldin would get what he has now, maybe with an extension later but we wouldn't have to figure that unless we decided to...

Which I guess when I think about it he's a baby like Ellis, never wanting his contract to get close to being up...

If we REALLY need space Romo might rework his contract again... He's not earning it right now anyways. (Not bashing what he will do, just what he has done isn't up to snuff)

I like Barber but damn we pay him a lot for him to go back to being a closer... Maybe if he's a 2nd half RB it can be justified, we'll just have to see.

KD, Im still trying to figure how the salary cap works and it gets more confusing since there might a cap-less 2010. I know that if were to somehow trade for boldin, he is going to want a 9/million per YR contract similar to what williams got. It would eat about 9 out of the 14 million available in cap room the Cowboys have right now. You need more than 5 million to sign draft picks, rookie free agents, practice squad players and an actual free agent who could get cut during training camp.  Oh and of course you have to figure re-signing DeMarcus Ware into that available cap room. It would be best for guys like Ellis, Crayton, Carpenter, Hamlin and Barber to re-do their contracts to create more cap room but I dont see that happening.

i love MBIII, but a closer with a starters contract can only hurt this team... especially with the talent we have waiting in the wings...

i think that JJ will see what choice can really do this year... and if he shows up... Barber will be gone after the season ... hopefully to the AFC.. it's Drew Rosenhouses damn fault.... Bastard

Number 9, it could happen if Barber's contract was unloaded.

I like the guy but I don't know how good of a fit he is. He's an incredible back with the highest trade value he'll ever have, save for maybe what it was last year.

I like Choice and Bennett. I don't want to lose those guys.

Send the Cards our 2nd rounder, Crayton, Barby and Ellis.

There is no way in the world I would trade Bennett or Choice they are too valuable to the team...I would be more comfortable trading Marion Barber than I would be Choice ...he proved last year against some of the best defenses in the league that he's a baller and a every down back...and the only reason he's a third stringer is that they payed Marion Barber to the the starter which I think we all can agree he's probably better suited coming off the bench later in games...and Bennett also showed he has play making abilities, besides the cowboys don't have Tony Curtis on the roster anymore so Bennett has too much value to trade.

MBIII I think your way underestimating Choice I certainly wouldnt call him a "project". Isaiah Stanback now that is project.

MBIII,  you are right about that... the only thing is ..

QB's come to franchises every once in a  blue moon ... look at the bears.. they haven't had a good QB in almost 25 years... Before ROMO we haven't had a QB since Aikman...

It is very different with RB's... Qb's are projects... Rb's just happen...

for instance... we picked julius Jones high and look at him now.. We got MBIII in the 4th ... and look at him now.. Rb's in this league are a dime  dozen... QB is a different monster...

also ... the Skins organization can't be too high on him, because if they didn't over pay big baby haynsworth so fast... bet your ass cutler would be a skin!

The way I keep from putting a lot of stock into Tashard Choice's handful of good games is by reminding myself that it's just that: a handful of good games. He showed a lot of promise and great vision, but he hasn't proven a whole lot. He's our third string running back for christ's sakes.

I live in Northern VA, and do you know who one of the most popular Redskin players is? Colt Brennan. That's right, the kid had an ok preseason game or two and everyone in DC thinks he's the next Marino. I was watching this DC sports show and someone called in to ask when they thought Brennan was going to get his shot, and the host sounded like he had answered the question about 50 times. I've seen about 15 Colt Brennan jerseys in Buffalo Wild Wings on Sundays. All he has to stand on is his college career and a few preseason games. I think it's hysterical, but I also think that everyone here is running the risk of doing a similar thing with Tashard Choice. Right now, he's our third option at running back, and though he's shown flashes of greatness in the regular season, we should treat him as a project. He's a good project that could produce an outstanding talent, and I hope he becomes our starter one day, but a project nonetheless.

It's not going to happen. get off of it. Signing Demarcus Ware is 100 times more important than getting Boldin. Financially you can only have Ware or Boldin you cant have both.

Also we wouldn't even need to give up a pick in the draft, should we trade MBIII, for a RB because Coleman was more than qualified for a third string.

haha L hat really knows how to fire us up, doesn't he?

COME ON SEPTEMBER!!!!!!

Choice and Bennett are too much to give up, especially Choice. How can you not put stock into coming in as a rookie and rushing against the top defenses in the league?

That being said he's too much to give up just because he has a 5-year contract that's next to nothing.

I'm all for giving up Barber and Ellis. Barber's trade value is as high as it'll ever be, he has a large contract, and he's the toughest back in the league with a great attitude. When you can't put the ball in the QBs hands for one reason or another, Barber will come through. Who wouldn't want him?

However we don't NEED him. We have Felix and TC for 7 and 5 years respectively.

So here's who I'd like to give up for someone, maybe not necessarily Boldin:

Ellis, Barber, Carpenter.

I wonder if we could pry Nnamadi Asomugha from Al Davis' cold, dying hands.

We could pick up Peppers, if we wanted, for those guys.

There are a lot of guys out there for those three guys, and unloading them for almost anyone leaves us the cap needed to sign our boy D-Ware.

Ellis can whine about worrying about his family and his contract somewhere else.

I know some people will not like this... But you are out of your mind sending bennett and choice... Thy are 2 future pieces to this franchise... in a few years Bennett's trade value will triple... and CHOICE will have a better career that MBIII... i said it...and i mean it .. i would rather give up barber than choice... Choice is going to explode int he next couple of seasons... MBIII has power, as he gets older that will fade...Felix has speed as he gets older that will fade.... CHOICE has VISION... and that never fades... he looks an awful lot like that old # 22 when i rewatch the games on NFLN against the Steelers and Ravens...

You guys are out of your minds to even consider getting rid of choice! Especially for a WR? don't you remember how good Galloway looked before he came to Dallas? Also.. Barbers running style is already shortening his seasons... Felix got hurt... What then .... Shaun Alexander is what!

Choice stays

The best part of Bennett's game was his blocking.  He was coming along nicely with the receiving portion, from what I could see on the network feeds, which is exactly why we need to keep him.  Tashard Choice's work against the two best run defenses in the league were the two best against them all season.  Don't tell me that that isn't worth putting some stock into.  I will say again that I don't see J.J. pulling the trigger on this one but if we gave up our only depth at pass rusher and a potential perenial probowler at tight end that it was worth it for another possession receiver that hasn't played a full season in a couple of years.  Boldin is a real talent but he would not give us the options that Bennett does on offense.  Boldin will never be covered by a linebacker one on one and he cannot open holes or seal edges like Bennett did for our running backs.  Bennett is a real keeper and for what he is being paid, you cannot find better anywhere in the league.  Boldin will expect 8-10 million a year.  Ware is gonna have to get paid sometime soon and anything that makes him even consider the free agent market is a really, really bad idea.

The Cowboys don't need a WR, although Jerry may do what he does best and give away stuff he needs to get something he doesnt

You have to throw something in there to sweeten the pot. Ellis is getting up there in years but is still good. Bennett showed that he can be a useful weapon in the passing game. Crayton would just be used in that deal to fill the hole that Boldin is leaving. I think that the Cardinals would take us adding Carpenter as us trying to unload a backup on them. And I don't think they'd put too much stock into the handful of games that Choice played.

The problem with trades is that everyone wants to get a star without giving up much. Ellis and Bennett would tip the scales for the Cards, I think.

No question Ellis is getting older but I am worried about Spencer.  We just don't have anything behind him.  Still, the addition of Boldin across from Williams might be enough firepower to cover a let up on the defensive side.  All that said, I don't see J.J. making this move.  If he does make this move I'll have to decide then if what he pays is worth the price.

I'd rather send Marion Barber, Carpenter and Hurd.

Barber has way too big a contract and his running style makes him expendable in 2/3 years anyway.  We can sign a big, veteran back to go with our super sophs.

Carp gets a fresh start in the desert and Hurd gets a legit shot at some playing time and helps the Cards on special teams.

We get a big play WR to go alongside with our other gamble.  Let's hope ONE of them comes thru.  BOTH and we could be playing in February.

I agree with everything you just said cowboyswin08 , however Ellis isnt getting any younger, he cries every chance he gets, his trade value is only getting lower, and he only has a couple years left on his contract, it is time to get rid of him.  Yes his football IQ is high but he cant move as fast as his brain does.  Plus we can still get some players after the second round.  We have a few 3rd and 4th rounders where you can still get good players.

I don't mind sending Tashard.  He really earned a shot last season and I don't see him getting that here.  Carpenter has no real value in a trade since he has done nothing on the field and of course if Boldin was coming in the trade Crayton, Hurd, or Austin would probably be offered anyway, wouldn't they?  I'd be ok with that.  Ellis would worry me, though.  His skill set and football IQ isn't that easy to replace in the draft when your first pick is in the bottom half of the second round.

I wouldnt get rid of Bennett but I am for sending Ellis, Choice , Crayton  or Barbie.  We have 11 picks in the Draft we can pick another OLB that can rush the QB.

Wow!  You are willing to get rid of Bennett?  He really impressed me last season and he has plenty of growing left to do.  If Ellis goes we lose all depth at the linebacker position and Spencer has to be a four down player now.  He hasn't finished a season yet and that has been with spot time and special teams.  We would be getting the bad end of that deal.

I was sitting on the fence over this one, but I think we should go ahead and do it. Send Greg Ellis over there with Crayton, Martellus Bennett (they need a tight end, too) and next year's 2nd round pick or Tashard Choice. That oughtta do it.

or put greg ellis in the trade offer too.
