Pat White, the West Virginia quarterback, is apparently impressing scouts at the combine. They are impressed because not only does he have potential to be an NFL quarterback, but he can also play some wide receiver.
As the DMN reports here, the wildcat offense became popular this past season.
With the popularity of the Wildcat formation growing, White’s status has improved, and Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones sounded as if he might take a chance on a third quarterback with White’s type of skills.
“We may want to do some things in our offense this year with a third quarterback,” Jones said. “That’s something other than be there as a backup to the second quarterback and be there in case you lose all the quarterbacks … We could hopefully find a quarterback with a set of skills that we could put some packages in for.”
The same article addresses Isaiah Stanback, who in my opinion has just been a flop for the Dallas Cowboys. He’s been injured and when he has played, I’ve not seen anything from him that tells me he’s worth investing in. I like Pat White. I’ve watched many West Virginia football games, and he oftentimes was the single reason the Mountaineers were competitive. But they also played in a pretty poor Big East football division.
I;m not sure the Cowboys need to reach early for White, but if he can be snagged with a 4th round pick, I would not be disappointed.
