ESPN is using unnamed sources again in a report that Julius Peppers wants to play with the Dallas Cowboys or three other teams, two of which are in the NFC.
Oddly, the other teams are not named, so we can assume the Cowboys are at the top of Peppers’ wish list.
I have no idea how the Cowboys could sign Peppers when DeMarcus Ware will soon be, and deserves to be, the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL. Other teams would certainly consider paying Peppers similar dough, but the Cowboys could not finagle it, not even Jerry. But it is interesting that it is no longer a rumor, and that Peppers does want to be a Cowboys.
Of course, many believe that the Cowboys don’t need any more stars; they need leaders. These are the same people stamping an approval on signing Ray Lewis.
I’ve looked at the numbers and don’t see how the Cowboys could bring Peppers on the team. However, we’ve yet to see any of these major changes that Jerry and Wade Phillips promised–something I continue to harp on.
