Wade Phillips Hires Wade Phillips as Defensive Coordinator

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced today that head coach Wade Phillips has hired head coach Wade Phillips to be the Cowboys defensive coordinator.

I did a quick check and I don’t think any NFL team does it this way. It’s not that it is a horrible idea because the defense did play better when Phillips decided to take over the defense this past season when Brian Stewart flopped.

But we all know the losses had nothing to do with offense or defense. It had all to do with coaching and chemistry.

Is this another one of those big changes Jerry and Wade had planned?

Jerry Jones announces that he is actually Head Coach and Phillips is D cord.

i see now that there again is alot of talk about someone trading for the rights of micheal vick. well to all you romo haters out there, be damn glad we got him, cause if we were looking for a qb, you just never know????? you think we got problems now, just imagine that pile of shit someone is going to get themselves stuck in?????

for all you guys who love to pick up teams left overs...

I wouldn't mind picking up Dre Bly

Does this mean that he'll get Brian Stewart's salary and make almost as much as Jason Garrett next year?

i believe that dan reeves may have been brought in to sort of co-coach with wade phillups so wade could concentrate more on the D. then this as it opened up did not sit well with reeves who believes that one man needs to run the show and he wanted no part of it. i do feel that this will be the best fit for the cowboys as to have wade focusing on the D. i will say one thing about the 3-4 that i've had problems with since parcells introduced it to dallas. i've always liked the 4-3. i played d-halfback in always 4-3 sets and it controls the run better than the 3-4. you maybe able to get more pressure on the qb in the 3-4, but if you discisse your blitz packages, the 4-3 can be as effective? i think one of the reason we've not won a championship over the last few years is our run D? the baltimore game shows the weak links of the 3-4 D in the latter parts of a game and the  it has in the run game? tom landry and jimmy johnson both had different approaches on how to play D. both were successful and both played a flat out 4-3

Yeah right, another Star-Telegram helpful tidbit.

I like this idea and I believe that means we will get a new head coach. Think about it, why else would Jerry do that? He already contradicted himself this offseason by saying his coaches are in place and he fired a couple. Maybe this is what Jerry means by "major changes this offseason."
