Wade Phillips Rested Players This Week, May Continue It

Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips rested most of his veterans who are over the age of 30 this week, but despite that, the entire team really only practiced on the field half of the 10 days they had to prepare for the Pittsburgh Steelers and their top ranked defense.

It didn’t help much for Marion Barber, who is out, and DeMarcus Ware, who is now listed as doubtful for today’s game.

The Cowboys, at 8-4, are fighting for their playoff lives. Phillips says resting his players during the stretch will help keep them fresh. But he used the same philosophy to a lesser extend last season an it did not do well for the Dallas Cowboys who went 2-2 those last four games, including an embarrassing loss to the Washington Redskins

Dallas needs to go at least 2-2 but more likely 3-1 to make the playoffs. If they don’t you can expect Phillips to come under more fire for using such a laidback coaching philosophy with so much on the line.
