Steelers Blog: Bill Cowher To Dallas Pie In The Sky

One must rely on a Pittsburgh Steelers fan to decipher in plain English the nuances that made up the eventual departure of famed head coach Bill Cowher. And if we do that, then we might as well wish for money on trees than think the Dallas Cowboys have a chance to get its second coach named Bill in the history of the franchise.

Nice Pick, Cowher has the scoop here and it’s not an overly optimistic outlook for the Cowboys fans dying to have a guy like Cowher coaching the Cowboys.  It sounds like that to get Cowher, Jerry Jones would have to spend money none of us would particularly feel comfortable about. But then again, none of us really like the new prices for Cowboys seats come 2009.

Do we take the attitude of “DO WHAT IT TAKES” to get this coach who guarantees nothing but maybe more discipline? Bill Parcells, known for his iron fist, didn’t exactly have these guys walking on water. It was still a poor tackling, horrible secondary, and too many penalties kind of team. So who thinks Cowher could save this team and ensure the Cowboys secure a Super Bowl win?

When it comes down to it, no one gives a rat’s rear how much Jerry will spend on the next coach of the Dallas Cowboys. But he needs to realize that his prodigy Jason Garrett has shown absolutely no proof that he is capable of bringing the Cowboys to glory. He can’t even run this high-octane offense with regularity. And Wade Phillips is a marshmallow.

WE WANT COWHER! WE WANT COWHER!

The problem isn't our head coach.  Wade is an excellent x's and o's coach.  We have had four coaches since our last playoff victory.  The problem isn't the head coach.  It's the GM, who isn't a GM.  When the owner can't walk down the hall and ask the GM, "Why the H*** do we have a 40-year old backup quarterback," it's a broken system.  Players aren't accountable to anyone except Jerry.  He counseled Pacman daily, he said, so he's also a psychiatrist.  He threw to Romo during practice last week and pronounced him fit to start against the Cardinals.  Is there no end to this lunacy?  The only constant during all of this is Jerry Jones.  If he could somehow realize that his incessant meddling in the football areas is keeping his team from succeeding, maybe he could put his ego aside as well as his body and hire a real General Manager.  If players come to him, bypassing the head coach or GM, he could tell them that they must go to those guys, because they report to them.  Until that happens, we're going to have more soap operas than Super Bowls.

Bluedevil3...
I totally agree...why would a coach like Cowher go to Dallas?  JJ needs to step down as GM and that WILL NEVER, EVER happen...we will continue to get cream puffs like Wade P...Switzer, Campo, Gailey...When JJ opened that botox mouth of his and spewed off about Jimmy Johnson, the Boys lost the second best coach this team ever had...Heck, JJ should just fire old Wade and take the reins himself...As much as I would love to have Coach Cowher, (and it doesn't bother me that he was a Steeler, 2nd best organization in NFL) I don't believe he would ever come to the Boys, JJ wants and will have all control...Cowher is a Football Coach, not a yes man, and unfortunately WE NEED A FOOTBALL COACH!

The 80s didn't count

I do not really know how the rest of the Cowboys faithful feel, but I place the blame on the owner. I know JJ interferes too much, that is why I do not believe Bill Cowher will be the next head coach. Unless by some miracle which could happen, Wade turns this around and delivers a super bowl and this Sunday will tell us all we need to know from this football team. I personally wouldn't mind seeing Jim Johnson or monte Kiffin get a chance at being HC. Someone who we have not even considered could be Marty S.

I am sure that Jones will give him the whole season (unless we totally collapse). While the offense is not playing at peak level, the defense is really playing under expectations. I hope when Tony gets back the offense really tries to stretch the field with Williams and TO. Then they can start grinding it out on the ground. The more time we have it on offense, the less time for our defense to fold. The talent is there, but something is missing. Maybe they should try a more aggresive approach instead of a passive one. Do not know.
Cowher is a good fit, but it would be hard for me to get over him being an ex-Steeler. Eeee ;-)

Erm...

the Cowboys didn't win a Super Bowl during the '80s...

The reason your team still had a poor secondary, poor tackling, etc under Parcells is because your owner is the one making personnel decisons.  You got my first criteria for Cowher (tons of money) but you missed the second (no owner interference).  I have no idea how you guys feel about JJ but when a guy like Cowher or Parcells can have any job they want, I'm pretty sure they'd rather have one where they call the shots rather than some bored rich owner.

I echo LH--WE WANT COWHER!! WE WANT COWHER!! WE WANT COWHER!!
