Dallas Cowboys Fans Chanting Bill Cowher’s Name

by Cowboys

What would it take for Bill Cowher to coach the Dallas Cowboys right now? How much ego would Jerry Jones have to leave at Valley Ranch for this huge coaching change to occur? And would Bill even consider coaching this team, with despite the history and the talent, has an owner who is very, very active in the team’s performance. In other words, can he deal with the Cowboy’s second head coach, Jerry Jones?

The chances are slim, maybe only because there hasn’t been one tip or one rumor reported by the media that Jerry Jones has ever considered Cowher as a head coach. But he would be crazy not to.

Jerry Jones has already said that Wade Phillips is safe for now. He does not plan to make any immediate coaching changes.

We are still reeling from yesterday’s embarrassing performance against the St. Louis Rams, and now the head coach is saying even he doesn’t think this 4-3 team can turn its season around. Scary development. Scary words. That’s not something a leader says. Yet, we all were tiring from the excuses coming from Camp Marshmallow.

How do the Dallas Cowboys get Bill Cowher in Texas now?

Nice post. Thanks for sharing these tips.

Commenting usually isnt my thing, but ive spent an hour on the site, so thanks for the info

Thanks for the tip, Rabbit Ears. NC is not too close to Dallas sadly.

Having been a Steelers fan (and living in Pgh) my entire life - most of it through the Cowher regime, I can tell you that geography has a lot to do with his decision(s) to coach again.  I know he moved to NC to be near his wife's family, they built a big house down there and I believe his daughter (at least one if not two of them) go to the various colleges (NC State and Wake I believe).

I think he would be a good coach for Dallas because his philosophy fits with the Cowboys - power football.  Not so much in Miami (which was a crap job that was at the wrong time).  If he wants to coach again, it very well could be Dallas, though I would also put Cleveland on that map, unfortunately for us Pittsburgh fans (who would hate to have to beat him twice a season).

The Quest for Greatness is always a hard road to travel. Some may even think its impossible to acquire when you face such short comings. In life there is no stronger deed then this, to get to greatness is an odyssey. It is something that takes time, and in time you find your faults and weakness's.If it is to much to bear, then fate will find your resting place, regardless. But if you find greatness then you found everything.

I hear Mike Nolan might be available next week! Hahaha!

Chris, thanks for the important information. We still want Bill Cowher though.

Um, as lead blgoger for Nicepickcowher.com, I felt I needed to weigh in here.  Now, if Bill Cowher is all about the money (and there's no indication he is because both Atlanta and Miami already offered him a mint), he MIGHT come to Dallas if JJ gives him a mint.

However, one of the major features of Cowher's tenure here was his not getting along with management.  He ran one of our GMs out of town because he wanted to make personnel decesions.  Then one of the reasons he left was he hated Art Rooney III, the current team runner who is supposedly somewhat medlesome.

In other words, I can't possibly see how he'd get along with your obnoxious overbearing doofus of an owner.   He's more Bill Parcels than Wade Phillips.

Listen I hate the fact that we are a weak 4-3 right now and should be 7-0 but the fact is it is just not Phillips fault.  Why dont we blame it on the players?  Phillips record as cowboys coach is what 17-6?  Not exactly a losing record is it.  Thats what I hate about us cowboys fans we are as bad as Jerry Jones, Fire everybody and make changes after a few losses.  INJURIES are killing us right now and everybody still want to fire Phillips and Steward.  What about Garrett?  Offense is not looking good either so you guys wanna fire Garrett too?  Didnt think so.

I hate losing too but, shit landry hat and company stop bitching and stick by your team and coaches.

He has said that he definately will not coach until at least 2010, i think its his cbs contract, anyways i cant stand out entire coaching staff, and i wanted Wade Phillips gone even before playoffs LAST YEAR, i dont care that we went 13-3 it was not because of him, he is a terrible coach, i do not want someone like Parcells either but we need someone with at least some discipline and who commands at least some respect from players.... and we need a new defensive coordinator stat... the Cowboys have soo much talent on the team, and when you have that much talent and cannot produce you cannot blame it solely on players, it is the fault of the coaching staff if they cannot get a team with that much proven talent to perform......... and WE NEED MORE DISCIPLINE, i dont care if you are out drinking partying and doing whatever the hell you want outside of the arena but by god i hate penalties so much, if i were the coach i would go absolutely ape shit every time there were penalties, i would make practices fricken miserable and we average liek 10 penalties a game its insane, it hurts us so much... it was not a coincidence that the Giants won a superbowl last year and led the league with the fewest penalties (i think only 72 all season?) we must have more than 72 already... Jerry knows how to talk to the media so he obviously isnt going to say things n public but you can be sure there is going to be a shakeup in the staff soon, this season is almmost over for us, we are in a division where we seriously cannot afford anymore losses, and on top of that the balance of power has shifted to the NFC, so it really isnt even a guarantee that both wildcards will come from our division, we literally cannot afford to lose more than like 2 more games the rest of the way out, theres no way a 9-7 team is getting a wildcard, a 10-6 team may not even get the wildcard,  I veyr much believe that something big is going to happen during the bye week or right after our game vs. the giants, i am from jersey and can go to the game but i am not sure if i can even deal with going to that game it could be an embarassment.... I know am hoping the giants can actually beat the hell out of our other rivals so that it can help us get this wildcard spot, lets just hope we can sneak into the playoffs and start to gel towards the end of the season.... recent history weve been playing awesome in beginning and then taper off, hopefully these early trip-ups can foster some unity and instead of a december slip-up we come together and fire up

I been calling for Cowher since last summer. Cowher in '09.

Quick question from an Eagles fan, I thought I heard that when Jerry Jones made Jason Garrett the coordinator, he was being groomed for your head coaching job, would it be more likely for Jones to make him the head coach sometime this season?

All serious though.
After coaching for one of the best run family franchises in sports, Cowher would be extremely hesitent to enter into the wild west that is Jerry 'Al Davis II' Jones.
Cowher's plans resided with another great franchise and owners, the Giants.  The Giant SuperBowl is all that put Cowher out from going there.
Cowboys are broke because Jerry Jones will not allow anybody to run the team.  Very Simple actually.

I don't think Cowher is even a possibility.  He SHOULD be, but I don't think he is.  When he resigned as the Steelers coach, it almost seemed like he did it JUST to become the Cowboys new coach.... Not really in his mind, but the pieces of the puzzle were just absolutely perfect to bring him in.  Jerry didn't even attempt to lure him in and instead went with Wade Phillips.

What they SHOULD do.... CONSIDER Cowher.  CONSIDER bringing back Jimmy Johnson.  He probably would decline, but what kind of fire would THAT light under them?

What they WILL do.... Finish this season with Phillips.  If it is anything short of winning the Superbowl, Jerry will fire Phillips, promote Jason Garrett, and he'll bring in different defensive coordinators.  That's not really a bad option, and I think it would be 10x better than the current staff, but I would really like to see Cowher or Jimmy back ! ! !

Two things for sheep Cowboy fans. (and by sheep I mean there are so many of you, as in follow the sheep)
1. Cowboys = Raiders

2. It could be worse.  You could be a Giant fan and have to listen to the nonsensical whining from Troy Aikman each week.  Wow, he should have been named Jack.
