ESPN Blows Up Adam “Pacman” Jones Incident

As expected, ESPN is blowing up the Adam Jones incident without really knowing what happened. What irks me from the start is that ESPN acts like it is their story, when CBS-11 broke it, and I was the first to send it out to the blogosphere.

No one knows what really happened, but it might not matter. If Adam Jones is suspended, the Dallas Cowboys are forced to rely on two rookie cornerbacks, Mike Jenkins and Orlando Scandrick, to carry them through the season.

I say that because it appears Terence Newman might need surgery on his pulled groin. The situation is not that serious because neither Pacman Jones nor Terence Newman have performed lights-out football so far this year. But it certainly thins out the secondary. Evan Oglesby anyone?

All of this is hypothetical, but if you listen to ESPN, you could be led to conclude that Pacman Jones’ NFL career is over and the Dallas Cowboys are in a world of hurtin’.  But it is very important to note that ESPN hasn’t really been right in ages.

Fred, I think more people will agree that you're one of the least educated people ever to post on this blog.

I agree with your last point, Landryhat. If you were to watch the analysts on the ESPN panel, YES, you would think that Adam Jones' career is over and that the team is ready to implode. Which is unfair of course. ESPN never reported the local news column that stated the reason for Terrell Owens' bizarre and teary news conference.

It was because a family member died.

whodeyfans,
if you remember the shooting incident, pac got into a fight in the club, which they then took outside and thats when it got worse. so no, not everyone leaves after they do something dumb. especially in situations where things could easily escalate

Because  this blog needs intelligent posters like me.

Can we talk about the Cardinals now? And why haven't you banned Fred yet?

Many stories are overblown in the media and this may be no exception.  If I were Jones I wouldn't have given the press any reason to cover me whatsoever, particularly this early.  The bottom line is- there was a police report filed with his name on it.

He's just foolish and irresponsible.

Goodell let him back, which seemed more than fair.  I'm sure he'll investigate this 'situation' thoroughly and make an appropriate decision.

bushido, most people leave after they have done something dumb.

Chris Henry is asking "What is wrong with this guy"

He could still be suspended even with no charges.  It is up to Goodell

another positive for him i think was leaving afterwards. shows either he decided or someone else decided to remove him from the situation so nothing else could happen. and Goodell's comments sounded like he was more disappointed with how much coverage this is gettin rather than the actual situation

"The bodyguard, an off-duty policeman who is part of a security detail assigned to Jones, told team security that some "kidding around" and "playfulness" between himself and the player resulted in a brief scuffle in a restroom. A vanity mirror suffered minor damage."

now i dont know if thats jerry's spin control or the truth but either way it's rediculous how much coverage this is getting from espn yet you go to nfl.com and you see nothing.

I dont think he will be suspended with the reports that are coming in.

At least we still have Jenkins and most importantly Anthony Henry. Pacman can eat all the Butterfingers he wants now. How is this trade deal going to work out with Tennessee now if he is suspended at this point, does anyone know? Not a fifth rounder right?

We all knew this was coming. People don't change that much. I guess it is time to see what Orlando Scandrick can do in a full time role. OUCH

The fact that it was an "inside" the organiztion incident is irrellevant here because the public image is coming from the media already. The media is blowing up on this story and you can damn well bet Pacman will be punished for it.

The media (and ESPN) does totally harp on stories like this and turns a minor incident into major front page news.  However, this is hardly a shock to anyone.

Pac Man has been warned by Goodell and the NFL that they wouldn't tolerate bad behavior.  He just behaved badly.  Yes, it's a minor incident, but he was still really stupid to do it.  You can't stick your hand in the fire over and over again and be shocked when you get burned again.  "This fire's hot too! Golly!"

If you Cowboys fans want to blame someone, blame Pac Man.  The media didn't just change overnight; it's been like this for years.  Remember the Bills player who got into hot water because he was let off the hook and not given a speeding ticket?  Then the media crashes in and he gets a ticket weeks later? This is hardly the first time this shit has happened.  This is hardly the first time this shit has happened TO PAC MAN.

You're totally right about how ESPN never gets anything right.  I mean they predicted the Cowboys would make it to the superbowl for crying out loud!

I am tired of ESPN. I wish there were a new network that stuck to sports and removed itself from the Enquier-like drama. I feel that's a niche the blogs cover well. But if ESPN wants to be a real sports-news network, they need to cut crap like this out. Their announcers aren't even serious. They are clowns in suits. I hate watching the program now. I used to watch it from noon to night to morning. Now, I only turn to it if I have to. ESPN sucks. They know it, too.

You'll be shocked, but I'm actually on your side, Dan.  This is overblown.  What is the big deal?  Two grown ups had a disagreement in private.  If the press wasn't so hungry to pile on this guy, it wouldn't even be news.  And if it wasn't news, then it wouldn't be anything the league cares about.  Stupid.

Ian is right. It's insulting of you, Mr. Landryhat, to whine about some ESPN vendetta against the Cowboys/Pacman. Pacman was a complete buffoon long before he became a Cowboy and Jerry Jones and everyone else knew it. Or does Jerry have his security follow every Cowboy around?
If anything, Pacman's actions this time were really worse than what is being reported. It's just that Jones has slipped the bodyguard and the police chief a few extra bucks to downplay it and allow Pacman's agent to say unbelievable things like, "I'm not convinced that anything happened."

Does Jerry Jones have you on the pay roll for damage control?

TO is mouthing off about not getting the ball, your best CB Terrance Newman is done for the season, and Pacman just got into a fight 1 month after being reinstated into the NFL. ESPN is not over blowing anything. Dallas has some serious issues here.

Pacman is a jackass who will never change. He can not help, but put himself in the wrong places, and get himself into some sort of trouble. He is lucky the guy he beat up this time is actually on the Cowboys payroll, and is not pressing charges. Otherwise he would have been arrested, and his season would be over.

How many chances does this punk get? Soon enough Goodell is going to have to give him a lifetime ban. He can't allow this lunatic thug to continue to ruin the image of his league.

THIS JUST IN FROM ESPN (official Cowboys haters):

"Tony Romo was seen with Jessica Simpson IN PUBLIC !

Pacman just cursed while at a restaurant !  This is obviously going to be the end of his career.  Roger Goodell must have him sentenced to death immediately !

Also just in.... T.O. reportedly SNEEZED today ! ! !

We must dedicate an hour special on 'Outside the Lines, First Report' about how the Cowboys are just completely self destructing and how they will lose every game from here on out !"
