Another Blog Says Jason Witten Is No. 1 Tight End

Hey, I don’t make this stuff up. Another blogger is saying that Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is the best in the NFL. You can see the post here.

Remember this post and all of the whining that came from the minority Anti-Cowboys bloc? Of course, the biggest cries came from the weak Chiefs fans. Well, it should be noted that their loverboy, Tony Gonzalez, ranked SIXTH. Yes, that is the number 6.

There are reasons why so many bloggers and writers are saying that Jason Witten is the top tight end in the game. It doesn’t take a genius to realize he has skills in almost every facet of the game. It’s laughable that anyone would even try to argue he is not a top tight end, like the Chiefs fans tried to do earlier.

Other notable ranks are:

2.  Antonio Gates, Chargers.

3.  Jeremy Shockey, Saints. (ridiculous)

7.  Chris Cooley, Redskins.

12.  Alge Crumpler, Titans. (washed up)

24.  Anthony Fasano, Dolphins.

That article you’re siting is ranking players for fantasy football. Your prior debate was about who was the best actual tight end in real life.  Those are very different things.
Also? Those guys ranked Shockey #3. Are you suggesting that Shockey is better than Gates and Gonzo as well?

    Redskins Guy Says:

Err…scratch the Gates comment since he’s ranked number 2. But are you suggesting Shockey is better than Gonzo?
First post. And Second post for that matter.

It’s a tough decision between Gonzalez and Witten. They can be ranked any way one or two, and I wouldn’t have a problem with it.

LOL, Tony G is still the greatest TE of all-time and he is still playing at the highest level!

Is or will Witten be better? He might be, but he still has not done what Tony has done his career. So give him some damn respect.

I think even Zach will admit that in terms of Fantasy Football, Gonzo is no longer number 1.  But that has more to do with the team he’s on (and the quarterback and wide receivers he’s playing with) than it does his personal talent.  Fantasy value != real world NFL value.

You guys are splitting hairs.  Do you really expect a Chargers fan or a Chiefs fan to say that Jason Witten is better than Gates or Gonzales?  I think all 3 are tops in the league and it doesn’t matter how you rank them, fans of each team has his TE at the top, as should be.  I would rank them Witten, Gates and then Gonzales because Witten is a Cowboy and Gonzales is getting a bit long in the tooth.  I certainly wouldn’t waste time trying to convince a Chiefs fan how much better Witten is over Gonzales.  I would wait to Gonzales retires and then you can take up that debate..

I love seeing witten number 1 but most of those ranks are absurd so cant take it for much more than a biased opinion…… shockey 3rd LMFAO!

Witten is great, but Antonio Gates is the best tight end in the NFL. He is unstoppable.

    Zachary G Says:

I believe Witten is easily the best in terms of the major skills needed by tight ends, pass catching and blocking.

Jeremy Shockey at 3 is higher than I expect, but as a Cowboys fan living in New York Area, Boy, should you have seen this Shockey block last year.  he blocked like a TE that might get 5 catches all year.

Gonzo’s blocking skills are pretty much Gone-zo, as his footwork amongst the masses has really deterioated.  As a receiver, he is slower across the middle, and is definately on the decline.  Fortunately for his numbers, there are no other pass catchers on his team, and he continues to make a large number of catches.  (art monk, ancient jerry rice kind of stuff)
