Wade Phillips Must Win

SportingNews has an article this week here naming the top-10 “hot-seat” coaches, and you’ll never guess who is Numero Uno.

There’s no doubt Wade Phillips has to win this year. But how much? Losing in the first round of the playoffs again won’t cut it, and such a development would surely mean he coached his last game in Dallas.

But what if he wins a playoff game? What if he loses the Super Bowl or loses the NFC Championship game? Will a playoff win secure his position for another year?

I say maybe. If the Dallas Cowboys reach the Super Bowl, it may be enough. Anything less will seriously put Phillips’ job in jeopardy.

the only way i see wade phillips keeping his job is if he pulls a tom coughlin and win a superbowl. winning a playoff game is only the start.

I think you need to read my last comment in that post you mention TJ. I was not talking so much about Jamaal Charles in general. It was the fact that JUST ABOUT every player out of UT in the Mack Brown era has lost it when they get their $$$. It goes straight to the head. I know a lot of these guys are from that area and I know a lot of these guys are talented. They just can’t handle the $$$ that comes with the job. If you are a Dallas Cowboys fan and you trust in Jerry Jones, then you know he did right in taking Felix over Jamaal. I know there is great talent in Texas as far as football is concerned and especially Port Arthur. I am from Stephenville and played for some greats under Art Briles who is now HC of the Baylor Bears formerly the Houston Cougars. I know how hard it is and the talent that comes along with being a Big 12 prospect, and even more so to be competetive there. I hope Jamaal squash’s my prediction dead and makes hellified waves, but the past shows that Mack Browns boys are over-rated. And like I said, it was directed more toward the Chiefs bloggers than anything else I was trying to say. They think all their boys are better than the Boys and we all know that is horse crap. That is what that was about. Read back if you haven’t been keeping up. It’s all there.

I like the message regarding Wade though TJ. I don’t think he deserves all the pressure. He’s only been here a year, and people already are talking about him getting the boot.  That is part of being a Dallas Cowboy, and Bill Parcells kind of left that for anyone who took the job behind him. The way I feel is… who can do better? Bill Parcells couldn’t get it done, and Wade and Garrett did really well I thought coming in -in a transition situation. I have faith that an improvement will follow. To get better every year. That is all I ask. Do I think the chances are good that Dallas will at least make it to the NFC Championship this year? Hell Yea, and I would be disappointed if they didn’t, but should Wade get the boot? Only if someone is there that can take care of the defense. I think Garrett has the offense covered. Who would be a better defensive guy for the 3-4 and the Dallas Cowboys than Wade huh? We’ve been there before, and I am telling ya’ll to have faith. Give him a chance. If there is someone that can do a better job that is available, then you know Jerry will jump no matter what happens. SuperBowl or bust. He wants the best.

yeah fJones was supposed to go b4 jCharles im saying we coulda passed on felix taken a safety w/our 2nd (shoulda been lSweed) 1st rd pick and gotten a value pick in Jamaal in the bottom 3rd of the second since he ended up falling to KC in the early 3rd (to me that’s better than 2RBs where we got them at)…personally i think pitt got the most value picks they did a good job  we’re right up there too…mBrown and especially OCgDavis really messed up jCharles last season…at 1st i didnt know about mBennet and thought it was a mistake but if he turns out to be the hybrid they say i’ll feel better i still think in any case we took him too early…tChoice was alright where he fell to and when we got em…on the poll i graded them a B- the day after now i’d give a b~b+…either way though JCharles at one time was called the most electric player in college when aPeterson was still an Okiedok…also drafted outta Port Arthur was James Johnson i think to the Bengals… him and Jordy Nelson lit it up last season in Kansas

I know where you are coming from TJ, but think about it and you will realize that your opinion is a little bit biased.. Jamaal Charles was responsible for holding on to the ball, not Mack. I am not bashing Mack, all I am saying is that when his guys go to the next level and get their $$$ they go nuts and can’t keep their head in the game and on reality. I hope you are right. It is always nice to see one of our neighbors succeed, and then you can say “I know that guy” or “I partied with that guy”. The funny thing is that I do that a lot too. In college, I used to go to college station and party with one of my high school buddies. Another former Yellow Jacket. And I am being 100% honest with you guys. I would say that every time I saw Dat playing for the Boys. I was at a party at CS back in 97′ and damn near got in a kung fu fiasco with him and his running buddies. He is actually a cool guy, but some of his party raiding friends thought they were going to go Kama Sutra on my friends fiance’. Looking back at it, it is funny as hell, but at the time, I was counting my teeth. But my point is, that this is about the Cowboys. I think Jerry Jones knows his business, and looking back at the draft at this point, I think he did a lot of RIGHT things, including Felix Jones. As far as the safety in the first round, only Kenny Phillips would have that 1st round draft class status there, and I think everyone here will agree with me besides you, that a CB was more important. Jamaal (even if he is successful) can’t save the Chiefs. By the time they get that O-line fixed, Brodie Croyle will be a battered has never been as well as Jamaal. If they get it going in the next couple of years, and that situation is fixed, will Jamaal still care? That is what I am saying. He isn’t in a good situation in KC.

Dude, you are trying to turn this into a Port Arthur thing, and personally that is not what I am worried about. This is about the Cowboys. That is all the past. Are you a Cowboys fan? Then let it go. You are not listening to a damn thing I am saying. Let it go. Do you think I am really going to say that Art Briles is better than Jimmy? That’s shit. Get the message man. Your turning nothing into a debate about Port Arthur being better than the world. I have never said one damn thing negative about Port Arthur, and I never will. Don’t talk to me like I am anti Jimmy. You know better.

u must be putting some good ass mota in your steamroller cause we already had the cb with our 1st overall waiting for the next 1st rd pick i never said a mfing thang about our 1st overall pick everybody s blogging about how roy williams washed up so yeah draft kenny phillips as his back up that was my pre draft thinking at the time it looked like jJones wouldnt go after fJones either …i was suprised he fell to us…i never said i knew jCharles hes way yunger than me im from 78 also.. our other PA playoff success story is sJackson from GS warriors thats my classmate ….and yes Jerry is doing his thing now but what happened with his 499 coaches that could take Dallas to the Bowl??? the message u need to get is you cant call a PA ball player out his name on a Cowboys blog anytime u talk about one of our own its gonna turn into a Port Arthur thing…i dont think most ppl know what “CS” means cause Bun B don’t say that on the radio every hour but i guess u talking down on the horns cause you’re an aggies fan but most of their best players are also from PA and wo-s…holla back at me when your ylloJackets become a 5Apowerhouse…swarm sting celebrate

    steamroller78 Says:

Yellow Jackets are not a 5A team and never will be since the school population is only about 1/4 the size of Port Arthur, but I have my ring you arrogant prick. I am not an Aggies fan just because I have partied there, but you can talk all that garbage you want. You are the one who needs to get the message. The Chiefs suck. That was what I was saying. So take your Port Arthur parade and shove it up your ass.

And just so you know, FELIX JONES was the first pick. Felix is not a CB. The second pick was a CB, and should have been. Get your facts straight.

    Steam,

Dont even bother with him..He lost credibility with me when he said we should have taken Sweed in the first even though apparently no NFL team had him with a 1st round grade..So he wanted us apparently to reach for a WR…
