Do The Patriots and NFL Make Love?

by Cowboys

How in the world can a team that went 18-1 last season have a schedule for this season in which the opposing teams win total from last year is only 99? To make matters worse, the teams that the New England Patriots will face this season lost 157 games last season.

Now, let’s get something out of the way real quick: NFL scheduling is based on how teams performed the prior year. So, if a team goes 19-1 and loses in the Super Bowl, they should have the second strongest schedule in the NFL. The New York Giants should have the second-toughest schedule, right?
Well, in the case of the Patriots, they didn’t even come close. Their strength of schedule is so weak that the next team above them, the San Diego Chargers, plays teams that have collectively won nine more games!

Is this the same team that embarrassed the NFL by cheating against the New York Jets and the St. Louis Rams? Is this the same team that got a little slap on the hand by forfeiting one of the two 1st round picks it had in this draft? Is this really happening? Is the NFL favoring the Cheatriots?

It must be. You can check the strength of scheduling here. This blows me away. I cannot believe this.

This is a Cowboys site, so I’d be digressing if I didn’t say the Cowboys schedule is middle of the pack in strength. The teams they face were 134-122 last season, compared to 153-103 that the Pittsburgh Steelers have this season.

Is anyone else really annoyed with this Patriots schedule, though? It seems like the NFL wants the Patriots to go undefeated. I just hope the New York Jets improved enough to dump these scumbags to the curb, because they are quickly becoming one of my most despised teams. And just think back in the days, the Patriots were such a harmless little team with the homosexual guy hiking a football on their helmets.

That was a nice post,I just subscribed to your rss feed.

1st and 2nd round are on sat the rest is on sun

davedallasfan, you are correct.  I didn't know that they changed it this year, but that would mean a 1st and 2nd rounder.

and when you say schefler reported 2 first day picks, i'm assuming that may mean 1st and 2nd., because i think the nfl is only going to do the first two rounds on sat. and the rest on sunday??? correct me if i'm wrong but i think they made those changes this year???? would dallas do that? i don't know then?

i'd love to see it for dallas. think it would be a FAIR trade all up. but when you mentioned philly that has me worried. philly has reported they would be willing to trade lito sheppard for a starting "star" wr?? johnson fits that mould. would it take more for philly to get it done? maybe? would philly give more? maybe? philly wants a good wr for mcnabb and johnson would be a hell of a combo for them. the skins would trade draftpicks in a heartbeat, no doubt. so, if dallas is to to a deal like that, we would need more on the table than those two. they both sit higher in the draft, and of course sheppard is a pro-bowl corner. so????? again i'm all for it, but worried that philly or the skins will get it done first.

Earlier today, there was a report that Carson Palmer had talked to Chad Johnson about holding out, and that he had said he was planning on going to camp and that the hold out looked like it was starting to end.  Then, recently he called John Clayton and said that he ABSOLUTELY did not say that and that he COMPLETELY DEMANDS a trade.  Adam Schefler reported that an undisclosed team has offered 2 first day draft picks, (which I am assuming would mean a 1st and 3rd round), but that the Bengals turned it down.  The only teams presumed to make this offer is the Cowboys, Eagles, or Redskins.  If the Bengals change their stance on a possible trade on draft day, what are your opinions on the Cowboys trading a 1st and 3rd for Chad Johnson?  .... I would have said a DEFINITE yes, because their going to take a WR anyway, so its basically like only giving up a 3rd rounder for a top 5 veteran WR, but .... watch this interview if you haven't already seen it, and tell me where you stand:  http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/video/videopage?videoId=3326416&categoryId=2459789  ... "That's it?" ...hahaha!

they are stting themselves up for another superbowl beat down with that soft schedule

since only two games are decided based on last year's performance, I would say that the Pats got a fair schedule (Chargers, Steelers). On the subject of favoritism, though, I think that Goodell sucks up to the Pats. He should have come down hard on them when Spygate happened. the commish rushed to "let them off the hook". but with Matt Walsh coming out with news that he has some stuff on them, we now know "they are who we thought they were!"

Hey guys, who let the Patsy in the room?  I haven't heard anyone say Belicheat sucks and the Patsies swallow lately.  Are we getting soft here or what?

Good point TDCowboys.  I hope that the fans remember that this year and neither Brady or Moss receive any votes for the Pro Bowl.  That way they will never be considered Pro Bowl caliber again.  Their attitudes definitely take the good away from sportsmanship.  Cheatriots suck.

Not only do the Gaytriots cheat but they have the someone called Tom Brady who is the best QB in the NFL bar none but is also the NFL's best sore looser, along with Randy Moss. How can you have a season like they did and not show up for the Pro Bowl. Hey good job guys way to rep you team and yourselves, I think they didnt show up becasue Billacheat didnt have enough film on each individual they would be playin agasint in the pro bowl.

point blank the Patriots are garunteed 6 games every year becasue thier division suxz, but another intresting fact is that every team in the NFC EAST gave the Gaytriots a run for thier money except........Washington Redskins

Yeah pats fan. The Lame-troits has the most meaning less 18-1 record ever.

People, the NFL Schedule isn't made up like that.   Get your facts straight before you start whining.   How about you do some research:How Are Opponents Determined?A common question I get from football fans concerns the NFL's scheduling procedures and how a team's opponents are determined. Since the realignment that moved the NFL to an eight-division league, the scheduling format has become quite simple actually. • Each team plays home and away against its three division opponents, which accounts for six games on the schedule. • Each team plays four teams from another division within its conference on a rotating three-year cycle, which accounts for four more games. • Each team plays four teams from a division in the other conference on a rotating four-year cycle, which accounts for another four games. • Each team plays two intraconference games based on the prior year's standings. For example, the first-place team in a division will play against the first-place team from another division within the same conference. The second place team in a division will play against the second-place team from another division within the same conference, etc... One other thing, it was 18-1, not 19-1.

philly would keep sheppard and pay him more before they would ever even dream of trading him to us. i'd love to have him too, i think he's one of the best right now and philly could have one hell of a tandem back there. personally i hope philly does trade him and there WR is a flopp

I doubt Philly would trade with with us but stranger things have happened. I also dont know if we have a WR they would want. I would say a draft pick. I would much rather trade for lito sheppard than pacman.

not to change the subject here, but i got a question for all you prognosticators out there. i just read on RTsports news wire that the eagles will probably have to get rid of lito shepard because he is not happy with his contact, (due in part of the philladephia mint size contract they gave sammuel). he wants it re-worked or to be traded. philly is apparently willing to deal him and NOT pay him more. they want a WR in return???? your thoughts

I say let them have the easiest schedule and go undefeated this year until they meet us in the superbowl. Just so we can give the same taste in their mouth that the giants gave them this year.

yea i mean its pathetic and theres no justice but there isnt a conspiracy or anything, and i think the jets are going to be good enough this year to win one of their 2 match ups with the Pats... i do wonder though because i dont know... is it a lottery that determines which AFC and NFC divisions you play?? I mean like the Cowboys getting the NFC West and the AFC North... was that a random picking or do NFL execs decide that?

i never worry too much about the schedule anyway. too many factors are there to determine things along the way. injuries, "coaching changes" such as the skins have, personal problems, such as andy reid went through last year. the schedule is what it is. we'll have to face it. i think the cowboys line up is do-able and will temper our strength for the playoffs. a weak schedule makes a weak playoff team??? it looks like the pats will be handed a playoff spot again, but that does'nt gaurentee that they'll get by any of the other playoff teams in the afc this year. so, we take it game by game, win our division, get home field advg., and FINISH it this year. it's our year and nothing's going to get in the way. not even the schedule

Pay no attention to that man behind the cutain! All but 2 games are predetermined before hand and are on a rotating schedule.   6 games vs divisional teams, 4 games vs NFC division and 4 games vs AFC division.  So the NFL has only 2 games to use for strength of schedule.  The Patriots got the Steelers and Chargers outside of the 14 games that are on the rotation. When your 18-1 (not 19-1) any schedule is going to look easy.  But looks can be deceiving.   We simply do not know how good any of the teams on the Pats schedule will be. The Dolphins have to be better than last season but not likely good enough to beat the Patroits.   We will not know how tough their schedule WAS until after the season ends.   They might end up with the toughest schedule in the league!

the whole AFC east needs to improve so they can take down those cheating bastards. Watch out for miami, If parcells improves the dolphins just like he did with the Cowboys they can compete with the lame-triots.

Truth pretty much said it.  Ever since we switched from 6 to 8 divisions (4 NFC and 4 AFC), strength of schedule means very little.  There are only TWO (2 games) that aren't mandated by what division you're in.  The cowboys, Eagles, and Redskins all play nearly identical opponents.  The Patriots, Dolphins, Jets, and Bills also play virtually identical seasons.  That's how it works now.  It's one of the biggest flaws in the 8 division expansion (that and the playoff structure).  The Patriots coming in at 19-1 means they'll play two extra opponents who are considered tough.  That's it.

To continue what I was saying... the Patriots just happen to be in a division with the Bills (7-9), Jets (4-12), and Dolphins (1-15).  The ENIRE divisional record is considered, so actually the Patriots, with the BEST record, was in a division with the WORST record.  Then reason the Patriots are the easiest and not the Dolphins is because the Dolphins have to play the Patriots which counts 16-0 to them vs 1-15 for the Patriots opponent....

Just what we need, to talk about another possible Pat's undefeated seaon. Didn't we all have to "Phone Earl" enough last year? But with the upcoming draft, probably getting an excellent young RB to pair with Barber, and some secondary help, I see no holes on our team. This could be our year.  Well, the special teams coverage was pretty bad last year. But that is it.

OK.  Here is how it goes.  There is ABSOLUTELY NO justice in the Patriots getting the easiest schedule, but there is a certain structure to how they make schedules.  I'll try to explain it... Each division plays the teams in their own division twice.  This accounts for 6 total games.  Then, they all play 2 other total divisions.  This accounts for 8 more games.  Then it is based on the ranking in their division for the previous year during the regular season.  They are matched against 2 equally ranked teams from other divisions to account for the last 2 games, equalling 16 total games.  .... Ex: Cowboys in the NFC East... All NFC East teams play each other twice.  All NFC East teams play NFC West and AFC North this year.  Then because Dallas was 1st in their division, they are matched against Green Bay and Tampa Bay because they were 1st in their division.  New York Giants have the same schedule except they play Carolina and Minnesota because they were all 2nd in their respective divisions.  Redskins were 3rd, so they play Saints and Lions because they were 3rd, and so on.....

Landry dude i wish u knew how pissed off I am...we might as well call the nfl the new england football league

Don't know if they make love, but the Minutemen were Patriots, right? ;-)

This is complete B.S.!
