DeAngelo Hall Says He Still Could Be A Cowboys…And A Giant…A Redskins..A Jaguar
DeAngelo Hall is an idiot. This report out of Atlanta is more proof that this guy is a fool. ESPN, which never corrects its errors, reported Saturday that Hall was going to be traded to the Raiders. Well, Hall is telling newspapers that nothing is final, and he is certainly making it sound like he does not want to be in Oakland. Hell, who does, right?
But here is what he told the Atlanta Journal Constitution:
“As of right now, we’re still at the same stages that I was at with every other team,” Hall said. “New York, Washington, Dallas, and Jacksonville. Nothing has been OK’d on my end. Unless they agreed to something that I don’t know about, but I don’t think no team is going to sign me without talking to me and getting everything right on my end.”
In the same report, the AJC sort of rubs it in with this:
“I will not be a part of another losing team for another year,” Hall told the AJC in December. “I’ve got to do what I’ve got to do. No matter who hates me.”

Sounds to me that Hall doesn’t want to be a Raider. One things for sure, he better get his crappy additude straight before he sits down for a chat with the man giving the paycheck or he just won’t play at all.
March 16th, 2008 at 7:04 pmHall is a competitor. hes wants to win just like any other player in the nfl, and i think hes just frustrated at the possibility that he may get the trade he wanted but end up in the same situation. i personally would still love to have him in dallas, and i think he would be willing to negotiate a cap friendly deal to play for a winning team like the cowboys. with that said, i doubt we will see him in dallas as it seems the falcons are trying to get him out of the nfc. sidenote, anyone else reminded of a certian speedy yet mouthy db that wore 21 and was once a falcon and then was close to being a raider before signing with the cowboys. im not comparing the two talent wise, simply the similarities of the situation.
March 16th, 2008 at 7:20 pmalso, does anybody understand the whole cap thing. im wondering how the raiders can be signing all these players, supposedly sign hall to asante type money, then still have room for a number 4 overall pick?
March 16th, 2008 at 7:40 pmWhen you sign a player, it actually helps the cap, I believe. I need to find a cap guru page.
March 16th, 2008 at 7:55 pmI know if you "re-sign" a player to a new contract it helps the cap but if you "re-structure" the same contract your putting off the big cap charge for next year. something the Deadskins seem to be good at.
March 16th, 2008 at 8:42 pmSalary Cap breakdown (very simple version):
2008 salary cap is approximately $116 million for a team
The structure of a contract can be set like this: a player wants to receive $23 million total over 3 years, they sign him to a 5 year contract, year 1- $1 mil, year 2- $1 mil, year 3- $1 mil, year 4- $3 mil, year 4- $4 mil, with a $20 million signing bonus. (with the expectations of keeping this player 3 years) … The $20 million signing bonues is prorated against the cap over 5 years (which is $4 mil each year towards the cap over the next 5 years) … The first three years only $1 million count towards the cap obviously (thats $5 mil total/year)… Then the player can be cut and is not owed the final $7 million over the last 2 years of the contract as they are not part of the roster. The signing bonus will still count $4 million each of the two years thereafter though….. Performance incentives are other ways of paying salary that don’t count as much as straight up contract money towards the cap. (ex. if player gains 1000+ yards, he will be owed an additional $2 million for that year, and the % of likeliness of that bonus to happen is how much that counts towards the cap)
With all that said, and I might of left out something because it’s late here, a team cannot continue to do this to beat the system. It is a quick fix to keep an all-star team together a couple more years, or in the Redskins case, a quick fix to get out of an existing problem (which is ALSO the reason they have the problem in the first place.) In the Raiders case, it just PROVES that the Raiders organization are a bunch of idiots. They’ll be alot better the next two years or so than they were last year with all these signings, but then that "salary cap cheat" will definitely come back to haunt them. Just for the record of what I’m talking about: (JaMarcus Russell last year- 61 mil, Javon Walker- 55 mil, talks of DeAngelo Hall at Asante Samuel money (57 mil), most likely drafting McFadden ($$$), and lets not forget TOMMY KELLY for $50 mil ! ! !
March 16th, 2008 at 11:02 pmok, still don’t understand the html on here yet. Just put an ivisible paragraph where it says BR… LOL… anyway, I hope that helps a little. Basically without knowing anything its simple to understand…. ANY team can get around it by many means, but the more you try to get around it, the more it comes back on you in the future.
March 16th, 2008 at 11:06 pmI was disappointed when I heard the news the Raiders were giving a 2nd for Hall. I would think the Cowboys could have offered that. Of course, a Raiders 2nd vs a Cowboys 2nd is vastly different. There is at least a 20 pick difference between the 2 so I see why the Falcons would prefer the Raiders 2nd. I would have been happy giving one of the Cowboys 1st round choices for Hall. I know he is a bit immature but still very young and very talented. I would take Hall over Pac-Man anyday and everyday.
March 17th, 2008 at 4:41 amsome raiders writer (i forget where i saw it), mentioned them signing hall might mean they will let asomugha walk next year and or trade down in the draft from the number 4 spot. could this be the dreaded opening for dallas to trade up and get mcfadden?
March 17th, 2008 at 5:20 amI just heard on ESPN that the Raiders are $19 million over the cap right now BEFORE the DeAngelo Hall deal is done, and that the Raiders say this deal WILL happen (Hall for 2nd and 6th round picks)… That means they basically have to trade down unless they’re just begging for cap problems in the future. Kyle might be on to something, and it might come cheaper than expected from the Falcons to land McFadden. So, the likely trade that turned into not likely is now even more likely!
March 17th, 2008 at 1:17 pmI dont know what Al Davis is smoking but it must be really good. All these moves he’s been doing dont make any sense.
March 17th, 2008 at 1:53 pmIt’s a good thing the Raiders have Lechlar.
