Larry Fitzgerald Off Radar Screen

Posted by: thelandryhat

For those of you speculating and wondering about wide out Larry Fitzgerald joining the Dallas Cowboys can stop it now. He just signed with the Cardinals in a huge deal that makes him one of the richest wide receivers in the NFL. He’s worth it. It seems the Cardinals finally want to compete.

However, the contract, which guarantees him $33 million over 3 years, surely will cause the Cowboys heartburn. Why? It’s a lot more guaranteed dough than Terrell Owens got in his contract that is up for negotiation.

            BallHype: hype it up!

So just curious if anyone thinks if stanback might be the WR to replace Terry Glenn this year. Ive heard comments saying he is fast so maybe he will become our speed receiver.

  2. 2. Justin Says:

Watchout asking on here! All I’ve seen is hate on Stanback, he had less than a year to convert from QB to WR and his year was cut short from injury. Crayton can be a #2 guy if they can convince his dumbass to run his routes and not make his own decisions Stanback can be like our Randle El as the slot. I’m not giving my vote of confidence just yet but let him develop!

  3. 3. steamroller78 Says:

Stanbeck is a good reciever. I don’t believe that it all rest on his shoulders though. Everyone acts like T.O. and Patrick Crayton are in the damn nursing home now. Crap guys, if all we had was the young talent, we would be in serious trouble. Give these guys a couple of years experience and they will be O.K.  The veteran talent her is the reason for success.      Dallas has bigger problems than just the wide recievers getting old. You guys don’t realize what the Boys just lost today. Keith Davis is a big loss. But this year with no depth in the draft as strong safety, this is a huge loss. Yea, Roy Williams is not the best in the NFL, but now he is all we have. The only position in the secondary with depth is at free safety with Hamlin, Watkins, and in emergency , Henry. I think Darren McFadden may have just been placed on the back-burner. We need to trade up now, but it is not for McFadden,  it’s Kenny Phillips. CB’s in the second and third. RB in the fourth.

  4. 4. thelandryhat Says:

I have no hate for STanback. All I can say is who the hell is he. Injured all year and when he did play he showed NOTHING. So, give him a full year of health and see what he does. This is it. Step up Stanback.

  5. 5. steamroller78 Says:

At this point, you guys should be crossing your fingers that Pacman is re-instated. Replacing Keith Davis and Julius Jones in the draft are a must, which doesn’t leave a whole lot of good picks for the CB position. Better yet, hope that someone, like say Oakland, signs Barber so we get a first and third round pick so we can take Kenny Phillips with that #4 pick. Dominique Rodgers Cromartie with the #22 pick, and Chris Johnson with the #28. Ray Rice in the second and then we’ve got young talent where we need it. Stanbeck is a go at wide reciever and Terry Glenn plays one more year. I know I just pissed a lot of you off, but with no pick ups in free agency, losing Aaron Glenn, Jacques Reeves, and Keith Davis this year with no one to replace them is a nightmare when considering how bad the secondary looked last year with the depth to run all the packages that they did. Marion Barber may be our only hope in fixing that problem.

  6. 6. BrutalRage Says:

Who the hell do you think you are steamroller….JK I dont know what about Jamaal Charles he doesnt look to bad either looks kinda like Jones but not scared to hit someone and ran a good 40 I belive it was 4.38 not a 4.24 but still good speed and runs through people. Either him or Chris Johnson

  7. 7. octopus Says:

I agree Justin,  Stanback was basically a prayer or a tweener in our 07 draft.  I don’t understand why everybody is down on him.  I was upset that he didn’t get on the field much this year but with a 13-3 record and Stanback being injured there was no hurry to get him some playing time.  But from what they say he has loads of potential.  Crayton is really not a #2 reciever. I wish he played like one .   GEEEEZ can’t the draft just start now!

  8. 8. number_9 Says:

Since they signed Fitzgerald, I wonder how much the cards will have to pay anquan boldin Once his contract is up…..and thats if they can afford him. Watch….some trade rumor is going to pop up involving Dallas and Arizona for Boldin. When Stanback gets healthy he needs to start showing progress. I will say that he is still a project with alot upside as long as he is healthy. T.O. has at the very least one more good year ahead of him. Crayton needs to start looking like a #2. WR.

  9. 9. number_9 Says:

here is an Idea…(if its cap friendly) trade the 22nd pick for Anquan Bolding. what do you all think??

  10. 10. BrutalRage Says:

I dont know how this would play and I have never seen him play alot, but what I see on youtube looks good he kinda looks like T.O. in a cardinal uniform probaly cant put them in the same class. Are the cardinals having more problems with cap space now I thought they went to 23 or something like that still better than ours, who knows.

  11. 11. Redskins Guy Says:

Why are all the dallas fans so focused on getting a second superstud wideout?  You have TO and he’s worked out pretty well so far. Do you really want to sign a Fitzgerald type to a contract knowing he’s going to take up a huge chunk of your salary cap? I know TO’s getting old, but it seems smarter for you to invest in a younger wideout who can potentially become a star over time and fill in as a great #2 guy (for a lot less money).  Is this Randy Moss envy? I don’t get it.

  12. 12. Justin Says:

OMG……… So… i just read an article somewhere else about the aftermath of the Fitzgearld deal… Boldin? Arizona considered and maybe still does consider him as the better WR… but he’s making millions less than Fitz now with him having the same agent as T.O., Rosenhaus, maybe we can trade for him? If you’re the #1 WR the guy opposite of you is making 3x would you be happy? lmao I know! another WR to discuss now

  13. 13. steamroller78 Says:

Brutalrage, I just know how big of a loss Dallas has taken (losing secondary guys),and I can’t see trading up for a RB to compliment Barber when there is so much depth at RB in this years draft. Take a RB at the #28 pick or in the second round for that. Kenny Phillips is basically all the draft has to offer at strong safety, and we need corners. If Kenny Phillips is available at #22 and we sign Pacman Jones before the draft (highly unlikely), take Chris Johnson or Felix Jones with the #28 pick, and Kenny Phillips with the #22. We need a RB with breakaway speed who can turn the corner. Chris Johnson and Felix Jones can do that. If we don’t get Pacman Jones before the draft, and I think this is the case, Kenny Phillips at #22 if available, or likely available, take Dominique Rodgers Cromartie CB from Tenn. ST. , then a RB @ #28 ,and hopefully land another good CB in the second. Possibly, and likely there in the second, Brandon Flowers CB from VT. Then a safety in the third. Barrett?

  14. 14. octopus Says:

Redskinsguy, I actually agree with you.  All this rumor and hype stuff is killing me.  I’m betting nothing big happens until draft day.  If we really need another wr that bad then we should get him with our 1st pick.  Hey Landryhat you should post a thread on-DO YOU WANT MCFADDEN.  I will start NO!  It would be cool to take a vote.   kthxbye   :)

  15. 15. Justin Says:

Skins fans shouldn’t be allowed to converse in FA issues. With what’s I’ve watched them since Snyder took over, you’d think they were sick of crazy FA stuff.

  16. 16. number_9 Says:

I agree the secondary needs help. i only mentioned trading for boldin just for the sake of it. The secondary is thin but a RB should be added also. one on the draft and one in free agency. Some mocks have kenny phillips gone by the 19th pick so who knows but maybe he’ll last until 28th.

  17. 17. Erik Says:

."Better yet, hope that someone, like say Oakland, signs Barber so we get a first and third round pick" i believe no one in this blog wants to see Barber go to a different team

  18. 18. cowboycards Says:

Redskin is right (bite my tounge), the Cowboys don’t need a second High profile WR.  That would just create anomosity in the locker room. TO is a me guy, he dont’ need another WR to compete with. He is fine and dandy when he is the number 1 guy, don’t muck this up with another super star WR.  Develope the young guys we have.  Crayton is coming along fine and I expect Sam Hurd to get a bulk of the 3 receiver sets.  Stanback is still a year away, unless he’s sandbagging.

  19. 19. number_9 Says:

Chances are oakland is going to draft Mcfadden so we should focus on putting together a long term deal for MBIII. We really should get off the whole "trading for Mcfadden" thing cause its not going happen. It also occured to me that miami could draft him and use him as trade bait. another running back can be drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round. The secondary should the priority 1 right now or were going to get toasted.

  20. 20. david Says:

Guys,Please stop this madness about Dmac.  He is not coming here period.  And will you also please get off the Kenny Phillips train.  We have good safeties and its not a priority right now.  But if Reggie Smith is available then Im all for him since he can play corner and safety.   I mean seriously, why would we waste a first round pick on a safety.  He is not going to be a starter.  So now you have wasted a precious 1st round pick on a back up and role player.  And steam roller,  are you nuts trading all the way up to the 4 slot for Phillips who probably wont get drafted until after 20 at least.  This has been some painfull chat.  We need to stay put and draft a CB, WR and RB with the first 3 picks and not necessarily in that order.  Take the best players available in those spots.  As for losing Davis,  yes its a big loss on special teams but now someone needs to step up and take his spot.  But he was a liability as a safety.

  21. 21. Justin Says:

This is the first i heard about the kenny phillips train and just let me echo a big NOOOOO. i don’t want any players from the U of Miami. and number_9 i don’t think Oakland will draft Dmac they have to many other serious needs, DT or DE

  22. 22. number_9 Says:

Justin…..Al Davis wont be able to resist…the man loves players with speed.

  23. 23. BrutalRage Says:

Yeah I want Mcfadden but things are starting to look down on it. Unless some cheap FA pop up I dont see it happening. If so I like the Idea of Chris Johnson or Jammal Charles. Barber with one of these guys is still dangerous. If Jerry can still find away to get D-Mac then Im all for it. I dont see this being a problem with saftey and not a big problem with CB still a problem. What I dont understand even if you get a saftey or a CB with the first pick they are just going to be backups. Backups are not suppose to be a Newman or Pacman or anybody that is starting cause then you would have a problem with them wanting to start also do to the talent they have. We still just need one playmaker and if we can grab Pacman we still are set on defense even if we dont have some bad ass saftey. As far a special teams we have a problem we just need some guys to pick it up.

  24. 24. steamroller78 Says:

I don’t want Barber to go, but I do hope McFadden is a Cowboy. At the same time, the secondary is the highest priority. No depth at strong safety and no depth in the draft at strong safety. Corners are a commodity in the draft as much as defensive ends, and the Cowboys need a couple. —-The good ones will go early. —-???Reggie Smith?, do you think he is versatile enough to play every position in the secondary strong safety included. If so, this guy is gold, and Jerry should be drooling at the possibility of getting him in the draft. I think we would have to trade up though. Maybe not too high, but a trade up. I did notice that he has the #1 ranking at the position on Rivals.com, Impressive—By the way, I do not want Barber to go, but if we can get Darren McFadden that would be great. Hopefully he slides to the #22 spot and falls in our lap. It’s O.K. to dream.

hoping biGG D drafts hometown boy jCharles…ya’ll’ll probably find this interesting:

    A RUN ON JUNIORS?
Frank Coyle of draftinsiders.com rates all eight junior running backs ahead of the top senior at the position (East Carolina’s Chris Johnson). Here’s a look at the top eight running backs in Coyle’s rankings.
    Ranking Name School
    7 Darren McFadden Arkansas
    11 Jonathan Stewart Oregon
    13 Rashard Mendenhall Illinois
    24 Felix Jones Arkansas
    44 Steve Slaton West Virginia
    46 Jamaal Charles Texas
    51 Kevin Smith UCF
    54 Ray Rice Rutgers

  26. 26. BrutalRage Says:

I dont know if there is going to be any wow this year its going to be on offence. So I think Jerry still will find some options to try to get D-Mac.

  27. 27. number_9 Says:

    you guys should read this….http://myespn.go.com/blogs/hashmarks/0-5-759/Are-the-Patriots-interested-in-Pacman-.html

  28. 28. BrutalRage Says:

Interesting and exciting. Even the blog calling the cowboys cowwwwgiirrrrls anyways just incase anybody dont know the reason we are called Americas Team isnt because of our record. Its because we have to most fans at away games there is always a group of fans. Also when it comes to the Cowboys you either love them or hate them, but what it really comes down to when a team beats us the news tommorrow isnt who beat us its the Cowboys Lost so stop hating.

  29. 29. John A. Says:

yea maybe the evil Pats are interested because theyre worried about losing their #7 pick if any more serious information unveils itself about spygate before the draft, but if not they are going to draft leodis mckelvin, which makes me sad, but theyl get him and he will produce majorly for them, i guess karma isnt a bitch afterall…….. evil patriot bastards…….. as for whoever mentioned reggie smith before, i like reggie smith a lot, hes a beast, and i like him even more cuz hes a sooner, and it isnt unrealistic for him to be around when our picks come up, he is CB/S, and the other corners like mckelvin talib cromartie would go before him, so we could actually get him if we dont go for d-mac…….. if pacman is reinstated though i am all for chasing after pacman, signing him to a tank-esque contract and then trading up for dmac, im so excited for draft day i can hardly contain myself, im going, and il more likely than not be very drunk, and whether im obnoxiously loud in excitement, going berserk if JJ does something i dont like, or fighting with a pats/giants/skins or eagles fan- one thing i do know is im probly going to be placing a phone call for a ride home after being detained for some B.S. "disturbing the peace" charge

  30. 30. BrutalRage Says:

Im sorry it just pisses me off how the Patriots still end up with a 7th overall pick they should have tooken that pick instead BS big time. I will be also really pissed if they end up with D-Mac and Pacman.

  31. 31. BrutalRage Says:

I hate the Patriots bunch of cheaters and crybabys. I hope Tom Brady breaks his leg this season.

  32. 32. number_9 Says:

If the Lametriots end up with D-Mac then there would be absolutly no justice in the world but I really dont think that the Lametriots will end up with D-Mac. Im willing to bet Oakland will pick him up, and the JETS wouldnt let a division rival have D-MAC. I still dont think the Cowboys will trade for him but you never know with Jerrah. I hope he focuses on getting the Secondary back in shape. I also think Pacman is still ways away from getting reinstated. If anything he might end up not playing this year.

  33. 33. BrutalRage Says:

Rumor is boldin might be put on the market what do know right after we talked about it. Here the website http://theboysblog.com/2008/03/12/more-wow-under-the-seat-cushio

  34. 34. BrutalRage Says:

So lets say there was even a chance in hell of this happening, but the cowboys pick boldin pick up pacman. Then we could grab a Jammal Charles or Chris Johnson in the draft and maybe a SS or CB maybe a corner back since you guys said that there is a guy that will be available in the 2nd that does saftey and corner maybe Im wrong about that not sure.

  35. 35. Justin Says:

You gotta think a year or more out of football going to strip clubs and wrestlemainia type stuff how in-shape is he and are his skills still there or even on the level of top NFL guys.  We don’t have the cap room for Boldin, we have enough to sign what we draft and 2 #1 will want a lot and what’s to come in years and if we resign T.O. number_9 I don’t think davis will with only 2.5 million more in cap space and after he basically got robbed at gun point /w Jamarcus Russell I bet davis goes for Defense Chris Long if available or Ellis

  36. 36. number_9 Says:

Al Davis like speedy guys so im sure he is going to be tempted to take D-Mac at #4….anything can happen though. Another reason that leads me to believe that the raiders will take D-Mac is that the offence seems to getting rehauled to fit Jamarcus Russell. They got Javon Walker and Drew Carter as their new WR’s.

Hey Landry Hat, thanks for posting my link.  That was highly unexpected and I appreciate it. I would like for you to check out my mock draft, I just gave it a serious overhaul and I think you could get some serious discussion going on this one. Also you had asked before about comments of the selections so I added them. There is a link on the right side of my page that has mock drafts also. Draftdog has links to several including through the second and possibly even the third rounds. In case you forgot, it is cowboysnextmove. THANKS
