Keith Davis Heads South To Miami

This is just a quick note that special teams captain Keith Davis signed with the Dolphins today. This might be the biggest lost for the Cowboys. Special teams is a very important part of the game. You can win close games with great special teams. Nick Folk has shown how important it is to have a kicker who can make big kicks (Buffalo game, he did it twice) and Davis was a major tackler on special teams.

He also is the Cowboys back-up safety. Chalk up another steal for Bill “Thief” Parcells.

This kinda sucks. I dont think we have a big safety problem but special teams we do. Keith Davis was the heart of the special teams, as far as safety all he was is a backup and I dont expect a whole lot from a backup in the first place so all we need is a backup. As for special teams he was a major playmaker so now who do you go to, to fill this gap in.

Keith Davis = replaceable.  If everyone wants to leave Dallas (13-3) and go to Miami (1-15) then let them.  The special teams were mostly an issue on kickoffs and not punts.  Its not really a great idea to have 2 place kickers on a 53 man roster, but Folk’s distance on kickoffs is the MAIN special teams problem.  We have to obviously keep him because of his accuracy and he seems to have good distance during field goals (just ask Buffalo Bills fans), but for some reason the majority of his kickoffs were only to the 10 or 15 yard line.  If you had a kickoff specialist to put it through the endzone then thats one less thing you have to worry about.  As for punts, just score a TD every offensive possession and you don’t have to worry about punts.  And, last but not least, if all else fails, go find Bill "the robot" Bates and let him play at 85 and I bet he’ll still be the leading special teams tackler !

If Roy Williams starts playing like he is supposed to then yeah there wont be a huge safety problem other than depth. Bruce read needs to get coaching the special teams properly darn it.

I wonder if PacMan could feel the space of Keith Davis.

Rage, Why would you take one of the best corners in the league and make him a back up safety/ special teams guy.  He would be on special teams but only to return punts.

Not a safety and Roy is on kickoffs already so it could happen.

Do you all really think Pacman is even going to get reinstated this year?? I really think he wont play this year either.

not that big a loss.  IMO.  He was  a nice special teams player, yes but his safety skills were never gonna afford him much playing time.

Parcells does seem to go out of his way to sabotage his former teams. The Big Tuna strikes again!

Davis was good role player and he played an important role on the team.  But he can be replaced.  Let’s not make this a bigger deal then it really is.

I’m glad people are starting to agree with me and finally aren’t freaking out from the loss of Keith Davis.  The guy wasn’t a superstar.  5 seasons, 68 games officially on the roster, 1.9 tackles a game average (including special teams), 1 forced fumble, and ZERO interceptions.
