Falcons Sign Michael Turner; Where Is The ‘Surprise’ Jerry?

Another high-profile free agent is off the list as the Falcons signed running back Michael Turner. It’s likely Warrick Dunn will be released as NFL.com reported earlier. But, who knows. That’s not really important.

What is important is what Jerry Jones told ESPN in an interview when pressed about what his plans are for the Dallas Cowboys running game. What Jones did was back away from the Darren McFadden circus and say that he doesn’t have to fill the team’s needs in the draft. He can also use free agency. And he also said he might surprise people.

Oh? Well, just about every person whom Cowboys fans would have liked to see fill those needs is now gone. Very few players are left who we think can come in right away with impact. I am working on a mock draft right now that, for the first time, shows the Cowboys trading up in the draft.

As each day passes, I think more and more that the Cowboys do plan to draft up and pick Darren McFadden. I think the Cowboys are working hard to trade picks with the Falcons. I am sure DeAngelo Hall will be included in the final package.

This is just speculation on my part, although we’ve heard the rumors.  Keep an eye on this, guys.

If the Cowboys get DeAngelo Hall, I would be fine with trading the top two picks for McFadden. I don’t think having McFadden on the team would be horrible. It would be good. I just don’t want to trade all we have for a running back when the most-pressing need is the secondary. We need a new safety, too, because Roy Williams just is not cutting it.

The Cowboys are so close to being the best team in the NFL. I just hope Jerry Jones has enough scruples to not screw it up. Meanwhile, the Eagles continue to sign people. They find a wide out, and it is rumors Randy Moss is interested, and the Eagles are right back in the hunt.

New York Post reporter says that Dallas is trying to work out a deal with Parcells.  Yahoo sports-NFL-rumors  was posted today guys. If this is so could you imagine the personell Dallas would have to give up to make it a reality. I hope this is not accurate, but in the past they have been fairly accurate.

Hall was toast against TO!  Hall is over-rated and possibly a lockerroom cancer.  Campo doesn't want that crap (at least I am guessing he wouldn't seeing I never met the man).  Take talent in many areas vs. one maybe two.  that is how they built it in the 70's and the 90's.

Another question I have is how much money would it take to take D MAC at the #3 pick. What is the projected amount it would take. Also, in terms of long contracts with these guys, is not a good idea in my opinion since they both have history with their character. An incentive based 2 or 3 year deal seems to be a lot better for us.

fatass wants chris long unless someone shells out. no one will. so he takes long. and as far as hall goes, how much of that 10mill has to be prorated against atlantas cap. they would have to eat at least a third of it in my opinion. hall's young enough also, so money up front and a long term streeeetched out contract could work???? still got to trade some players and other picks away to sign 2 1st rounders anyway???? would hall work for us? i think so. he would be worth a contract, at this point of his career???? ya i think so. but STM78 is right, it's going to take some hard work in the business office to get er done. another reason to like jerry, he'll do it

Jerry needs to trade personell to clear cap space to sign these big money players. In the ESPN interview he specifically said a surprise on offense. Is there a way that Dallas could aquire Hall without hitting the cap and still have $$$ left to get this wow factor on offense?

I just heard on the news that Dunn carries a 4 million dollar price tag left on his contract. I have seen somewhere earlier today that Hall has about a 10 million dollar price tag. How does Jerry pay for Hall if the draft is still to come and he has to pay these guys too. As far as Dunn goes, I would have to think he is a Falcon for another year at least after hearing this.

I don't think Parcells would take Dmac.  He said he wants good charecter guys and there are questions about dmacs charecter.  Thats one thing that scares me about us pickin him.

Speaking of fatass, do you think there is a possibity of him taking D MAC with the first pick just to have the upper hand in what Dallas might be willing to trade? I mean they do need a good RB and if he thought he could get more from doing this you would have to believe he would. Especially if Jerry refers to him as fatass. He has got to know Jerry wants D Mac real bad, how does fatass play this first round pick.

is campo going to tell jerry "no " to hall???? i think jerry let him go once already. i think if jerry says he can get hall and feels he'll contribute, campo would be "ok" with it???? just my opinion....if your campo how many vets would you rather have over rookies. bread is'nt toast till it has some heat applied, and vets take the heat better than rookies. hall can win now. thats were dallas is now, we can add corners in the 2nd, or 3rd????? just my opinion

the trade chart is a guide line that was designed to allow the nfl to be all on the same page when it came to value of draftpicks.  to say that you have to follow it to a tee is horse shit! if dallas offers 2 1st rnders and lets say 2 players that were 1st rounders to atlanta, that they should'nt do it because the chart says they ought to have more picks?????? would you give $15,ooo for a used car if the tag said so????? would'nt you try for maybe $13'500????? it's how bad do they want to deal????? fatass and miami will never be able to trade that #1 pick away if they have to have what it's worth?????they might have to take a little less to get more picks on the table. it's give and take, not locked in price????

That brings up another great conversation DDF. What does Campo want to work with? He has Newman,Henry,Williams, and Hamlin at this point. If he thinks he can work with that and a couple of good rookies, he might not want Hall. Losing Reeves, Davis, and Jones though is going to be a good thing in the end, and I think good rookies can easily replace Reeves and Jones. However I did like to see Davis in special teams and nickel coverage. He can flat hurt people man!

You are dreaming if you think just the top two picks would get him.  The trade chart would require the two firsts, second round and maybe beyond!  We need to build through the draft and the areas that we need most have depth this year.  You can get  a CB as good as Hall in the draft, get a WR even if someone big is signed for youth and get a speed back with your second round pick.  Build for today and years to come!

wait a minute, did you guys read the fine print on thomas' contract? 1mill up front, 1mill contract, and 1mill incentives??? thats cheeper than any lb we got now!!!! and how much guanteed money up front did berien get? thomas, if healthy, was a steal!!!!! another example of an old vet taking less for a chance......i don't agree with him being a bad move. he's going to maybe fight for an inside lb spot to shore up or run defence. we had problems at times there too? this could take some heat of roy williams as well???? lets just see how bad this move was. i think in the end we'll be happy we got thomas. nobody bangs a runner harder than him

Yeah we have to keep Roy at this point.  and you make a good point about Campo coachin Roy again.  I just think Roy is not athletic enough for coverage.  But I really really hope Roy Shuts our mouths and PLAYS like a probowler again.

octopus, i understand your concern, man. yeah roy is a worry for a lot of us as well, but i have a little take on the roy williams thing. what is more important, having great players with bad coaching, or bad players with great coaching? a great coach can turn an average player into something great. right? well my friend, i like to think we have a great secondary coach with dave campo aboard this year, and it might be the difference with where roy is used in  coverage packages. jimmy johnson said of campo, that he's the best he's been around at discissing coverages and bringing the blitz. lets just give roy a little fresh air and see what happens. he may flourish again with campo???? besides it's gotta work because of the cap problems his contract presents if he's cut or traded???? heard this contract news from dallascowboys.com/ nick eatman

I agee I don't understand the Thomas signing.  Hey does anyone know if Dat is still coaching here?

This trade makes the most sense. Hall is a lockdown corner and tossed in with the first round draft swap even with an expiring contract. Baring Randy Moss craving a star on his helmet I don't see anything else that can really be the "surprise" Jerry promised us.... BUT has Hall forgotten T.O. spit in his face? Can they co-exsist in the same locker room? Do we really want to start making moves away from what got us where we are now (Tuna brought strong character guys) Wiliams wasn't his pick, T.O. Tank Johnson now Hall? and now Jerry's gonna go after chicken legs?.... "Getcha whiskey ready" I'm scared/anxious/nervous/excited/lmao

I think the Randy Moss thing can officially be laid to rest. Jerry wouldn't have the cap space to sign him and the draft picks. It sounds like Moss will be staying in NE. He is just determining his $$$ value. Dunn and Hall to Dallas? Jerry will not be able to pay Hall what he is asking at this point with only 4 Million in cap space left unless he can restructure contracts and would almost certainly have to include Marcus Spears in the deal to make up cap space. I really wish Jerry would have not signed Zack Thomas you guys. We could have got Bernard Berrian. He signed a 6 year contract with the Vikes for less against the cap this year than Thomas cost.

If we can get Mcfadden and still keep Barber this might be a good move.  I'm not a fan of D.Hall but maybe if he has a star on his head that will change.  I just wanna know when we will finally get a new safety this has been our biggest weakness the last 2 years.  I like Roy but he has to go.  IDK?
