Will the Dallas Cowboys be interested in wide receiver Donte Stallworth? The Patriots aren’t even tagging Randy Moss.
My initial feeling is the Cowboys need to draft a wide receiver in the first round. Stallworth to me is just another third receiver, a Patrick Crayton if you may. What the Cowboys don’t have is a true No. 2 guy at wide out. Stallworth, in my opinion, doesn’t fit that mold. When he entered the league, I thought he would be. He’s average.
With Terrell Owens getting older, and Terry Glenn likely to retire, this leaves a serious hole. Many of us Cowboys fans aren’t exactly excited about having Crayton at the No. 2 spot again for this coming season.
But, Stallworth will be available.
I say pass on him. Thoughts?

Granted a number two receiver , one with speed and who is a legitmate threat is needed to replae Terry. I think that need should be filled via free agency. Rookie wideouts no matter their draft status, do poorly their first nfl season, as a general rule. How would much would a rookie contribute in a run for the Super Bowl next season? We need to think about replacing the vets as they age past productivity. Yet not stall the team’s near term goal.
I remember seeing Stallworth look more than just another receiver when he played for Philly… but that was against our secondary. I’d be willing to give him a 2-3 year deal… to make sure we don’t risk a 1st round pick on a WR this year.
Pass, I want Manningham!
what are the chances of getting moss? i know he wants money, but what about a long term deal?
Scott,
The chances of getting Moss are nill. He will cost as much if not more than Owens. What we need is a quality second receiver. Maybe Stallworth is the guy. But we still need to look in the draft for our future star at wide out. I like Mario Manningham.
what happened to miles austin and sam hurd and stanback?
Manningham is too lean for my liking ESPN has him at 6′0" 188. If we take any WR I’d like for him to have some weight and a bit taller. He’s from Michigan…star college WR’s who don’t produce in the NFL anyone? Just looked up Stallworth’s size… not that much bigger 6′ 200lbs lmao maybe we should risk a pick on WR.
Scott,
Good questions. I don’t think any of those guys will ever be a star. They are not real threats. Stanback is worthless as far as I am concerned. I like Sam Hurd and Miles Austin because they’ve made some clutch catches, but no one thinks they are going to be big-time stars in the NFL.
do you think a trade with someone with hurd, austin , and spears will get someone good?
Definately pass on him. I wasn’t terribly impressed with him this season and he played on a team that broke all the passing records. He’s average at best, probably a nice #3 receiver but like you said, the Cowboys need a solid #2 in case Patrick Crayton is not up to snuff. I also think they should draft WR and think toward the future. TO does not have many years left and there is NO ONE waiting in the wings to take the mantle from him. Crayton is not a #1, barely a #2 if that. Stallworth would just add to the Cowboys stable of #3 WRs. The Cowboys need a #2 receiver that is primed to be a #1.
Landryhat, after seeing Mario Manninghams Combine performance what are your thoughts on him now?
Justin, He lifted the 225 bench 16 times. His speed was pretty bad. He certainly isn’t likely to be a first round pick right now because of his speed and strength. I wouldn’t mind snagging him in the second or third rounds. But taking him in the first round….I might pass now
I am a fan of Limas Sweed, he has a presence about him, and he is a good tall guy at over 6′3 and physical………on the totally other end of the spectrum, I thought D.Jackson looked pretty good to, although at 169 lbs is small…. but watching him today if you look at his face and body language when hes running and also doing the catching drills, he looks so calm and collected, like he isnt even trying, kind of like randy moss… it just looks like its so easy for him to move around, and he can return punts as well…. maybe we can steal him in the second round
