RUMOR: Chad Johnson to Dallas for Roy Williams
A rumor started on ESPN radio today that Chad Johnson could be traded to the Dallas Cowboys for Roy Williams.
Mike Zimmer is the defensive coordinator in Cincinnati which would be a reunion with Williams if the trade occurred. Williams already has his guaranteed money, so the Cowboys would take an affordable $3 million cap hit.
Wow. What a rumor. Thanks to acruther at the cowboys-forum for bringing this to discussion. Listen Bengals, we will even give you a second round pick and linebacker Bobby Carpenter. That will give your defense a much-needed boost.
If such a rumor turns to be true, this would give the Cowboys the most potent offense in the NFL, hands down. Whomever we draft to replace Julius Jones is likely to be an improvement. And the defense hasn’t even been addressed yet.
Imagine Chad Johnson, Terrell Owens, Jason Witten and Patrick Crayton. Tell me that doesn’t worry the NFC East and the rest of the NFL!

If this happens (and I HIGHLY doubt it does), I will cream in my pants.
And this is coming from a huge Roy Williams fan.

January 31st, 2008 at 9:59 amI’m very dubious, but that lineup would certainly scare the hell out of me. I thought Chad Johnsons’s cap situation made him virtually untradable, but I could be wrong.

January 31st, 2008 at 12:30 pmJust another jabber-jaw on the cowgirls. Yeah, please take Chad Johnson. He will run his mouth more than Crayton & Owens put together and bring down the team even more. GO GIANTS!!!! ha ha ha
January 31st, 2008 at 2:43 pmChad doesn’t even run his mouth anymore… he had maybe 2 altercations with coaching and carson(who sucked this year) and thats it. If we had Chad it would be incredible. Just like with Randy Moss, who ran his mouth all day every day in Oakland then stopped once he got to a good team. The Bengals were terrible this past season, would you be happy playing on a sh*tty team if you were a superstar receiver?
January 31st, 2008 at 3:19 pmNo way this happens. A lot of people are hatin’ on Roy, but the truth of the matter is, he’s still one of the best and still very young. He could come back next year and be better than ever. Just take a look at a guy I like to to call the Sack Monster, Mr. Greg Ellis – Comeback Player of the Year. I don’t think Dallas is ready to give up on Roy just yet. Chad Johnson would definitely make our offense merely unstoppable, but I just don’t see it happening at all.
January 31st, 2008 at 4:40 pmLone Star, I disagree that ROy is still one of the best. I don’t even know how you can say that, being your as much of a dedicated fan as I. I could care less about his Pro Bowls, the past two years he has just been awful, blown coverages and poor tackling. I don’t even think it is close who would provide more for the Cowboys. RW costs too much and he’s just not leading this team.
January 31st, 2008 at 5:25 pmIs there really a debate as to who would be more helpful to Dallas? Since this "trade" is merely an ESPN fabrication, I almost hate to respond. However if Cincy really would consider such a move, you do it yesterday! RW has been around to league long enough to prove that he is horrible in coverage, and since the "horse collar" has been outlawed, his ability as a run stuffer and sure tackler has diminished as well. Pat Watkins could slip on jersey #31, and (aside from the size difference) you wouldn’t notice the difference. Owens and Johnson would be the best tandem since Moss and Carter. Too bad even Cincy isn’t this stupid!!!
January 31st, 2008 at 8:24 pmIt’s actually not an ESPN fabrication, but it IS a fabrication. Apparently Chad Johnson and his agent have been making rounds on the radio circuit during the superbowl trying to spread rumors and to create hype. There’s now rumors that the Redskins are going to trade for him too. Don’t believe any of it. Johnson is trying to fabricate rumors to get more leverage.
January 31st, 2008 at 9:56 pmT.O. and Ocho on the same side, not gonna happen. Don’t forget that favorite saying "I love me some me". The trade for Williams would be sweet, but we need a good replacement in the safety spot. Possibly a cover safety, instead of a safety that can’t hit as hard as before.
March 1st, 2008 at 1:07 pmDo it!! Bring in Chad! RW isnt helping! or trade Owens for Ocho! Glenn for Ocho! Just bring him in!
March 19th, 2008 at 1:25 pmFirst off the only places that are carring this are blogger sites like this I search no one else is covering this. Secondly this would cause the biggest implosion because could TO really take second string to CHad Johnson come on he’d be popin pill faster then it takes Tony Romo to choke in a playoff game. Third and most important the cowboys can’t win a super bowl in the salary cap era becuase Jerry Jones can’t pay off the top talent to play for and who would want to play for that douche for nothing
March 20th, 2008 at 12:08 pmAlex…….please…obviously someone will play in Dallas for nothing……Marion Barber, Tank Johnson, Tony Romo….. could’ve all been distractions, but decided to suck it up for peanuts a look toward the future….. The main reason we won’t get Ocho Cinco is because we cant afford him….for the money he’ll cost we can get 2 workable 1st round picks. Dallas is moving in the right direction….. We need a corner but losing Roy Williams wont hurt if we can replace him with some quality…….Draft 2 corners, sign Pacman Jones and move Roy to outside linebacker…..Problem solved……..you’re welcome
March 24th, 2008 at 9:28 amI really, really hope this happens. No team in history would have ever had two more “Team First” receivers.
