I’ve had 24 hours to think about what happened last night. Obviously, Tony Romo had a bad game because he brought his bimbo girlfriend. So, knowing his game was off, I think fans have to question why offensive coordinator Jason Garrett stopped running the ball. We have one of the most punishing running backs in the game, Marion Barber, and Garrett stopped giving him the ball. He stopped giving Julius Jones the ball, too. Instead, the Cowboys passed more, and more, and more and more! Garrett kept calling plays for Romo, and none of it worked.
Now, I can see that making such play calling is necessary when the team is down by 14 or more points. But the score was 10-6. I just wanted to point that out. If the Cowboys are going to win a play off game, the play calling needs to improve in situations when star players aren’t playing to their talents.
In other news, Pro Bowl safety Roy Williams has been suspended 1 game for his horse-collar tackle of Donovan McNabb yesterday. That was his fourth violation of the rule over two seasons. The rule was created because of Williams’ tackle of Terrell Owens back when Owens was an Eagle. The tackle ended Owens’ season and he returned for the Super Bowl against the Cheatriots. No surprise here. Center Andre Gurode should be OK for the next game. Tony Romo’s thumb is fine. Chris Canty may not be as lucky. More tests, but his injury appears more serious. Back-up tight end Anthony Fasano had a mild concussion and should be OK for the next game.
