The trash talking for the Dallas Cowboys-Detroit Lions game is really heating up. Let’s review:
Lions’ QB Jon Kitna started it, and you can read about it here.
A few Cowboys remember the ignorant comments and they fought back. You can read about Bradie James‘ comments in the same post.
Upon hearing all the controversy and comments, Kitna backtracks. He says his comments on the radio interview were taken out of context, as if that can really happen. You can read about that at this post.
Then, Terence Newman gets involved. You can read about it here. The NFL acted swiftly and reprimanded Newman for his comments.
Now the fat, big guys are talking trash. Lions center Dominic Raiola tells a Michigan news site that Newman’s comments were inappropriate. Here are some snippets from this article:
“Who the hell does he think he is?” Raiola said on Thursday. “You don’t make comments like that in this league.”“If you’re going to (hit him hard), do it fair and square,” Raiola said. “You’re going to try to cheap-shot somebody? Say you’re going to pick him off or you’re going to make one of his receivers pay — I don’t care — but when you say you’ve got money put away for fines? That takes it to a whole different level.
“You say you’re going to come out and hurt him and what are we supposed to think? What if we come out and say we’re going to take cheap shots the entire game? They’re not going to like that, are they? Nobody would like that.”
“We’re ready for (Newman) to blitz, but we haven’t seen him blitz one time,” Raiola said. “He’s not the blitzer. Maybe he’s talking about when he scrambles.”
What was going to be a mediocre Sunday afternoon game, likely a Dallas blowout, is now turning into an all-out war of words. Emotions are running high. The refs are going to be looking for opportunities to throw the yellow flags. Personally, I’m a little bit nervous. When emotions run this high, it’s often a recipe for disaster. Possible suspensions, fines, bad play, and injuries all loom.
If you don’t have the DirecTV NFL package and won’t be able to see the game, come here. I give regular updates by quarter, and sometimes by play, during the game. This will be one to watch. I hope the refs are fair and don’t take extra precaution against the Cowboys.
